Comments: Canadian users of the Offering Module should be aware that producing Canadian Donation Receipts is complicated and poorly documented. Also it currently produces a receipt for each donating family, rather than each donating member. ParishSOFT is now aware that Donation Receipts must be made out to the true donor (who may not be the head of the family) and is planning to correct this, but until this correction is made Canadians should use caution when generating tax receipts.

Pros: user friendly

Cons: difficult to get changes made, we work around this issue (ACA reporting requirements as an example)

Overall: We use ParishSoft for all accounting for all diocesan parishes, works well to have all using the same chart of accounts and software. WE are able to assist parishes with their accounting questions.

Cons: Cumbersome and old technology

Overall: We were forced to use this software by our Diocese and it has been nothing but a problem for our staff. We currently run two programs, one for our daily work and parish soft to keep the Diocese happy. The update to connect now has not made it easier or less cumbersome to use. Old style technology and obviously they don't check with local parishes to see what we need to make our lives easier. Customer service is terrible. Email a problem and wait for days for someone to get back to you. I am convinced if they don't have an answer they just push your problem to the side. Look somewhere else.

Pros: The fact that it is WEB BASED and there are excellent staff members at ParishSOFT who truly care about the customers and feel more like "partners in arms".

Cons: Too many bugs and serious issues with software releases. Not enough testing goes into the software before it's pushed out the door. Also clear communication regarding when updates are applied to a diocese.

Overall: We have been customers since 2005 and still believe that this product was the right way to go. The development of additional features and functionality has been slower this past year than we as customers would like to see. There have been more "bug fixes" than added features. There are many opportunities for the company to grow and mature and we believe that they are committed to taking the steps to make that growth happen. As a customer, I wish that more resources were committed to making that growth happen at a faster rate. We continue to patiently wait....some wait more patiently than others ;-). We understand the challenges of finding well-committed developers and look forward to seeing the development cycle make significant speed and accuracy improvements as it seriously needs to. Customer Communication needs some serious improvement and should be more transparent without jeopardizing corporate intellectual property.

Recommendations to other buyers: We have been requesting for many years now, the ability to make feature requests and to see how many others have made the same feature requests. Being able to see a Matrix of how many other customers are requesting the same thing and where that request is sitting in terms of popularity. Also need a formalized online forum group where customers can ask for situational advice and create a community.

Pros: I love that everything is online and accessible from anywhere.

Cons: Sometimes there are glitches or it runs a little slower than I work.

Overall: I have been working with ParishSoft for six years. Starting with Accounting and now with Family Suite. We have converted all products over to the ConnectNow online product. The staff with ParishSoft is fantastic. I am always helped in a timely and friendly manner.

Pros: Easy to learn

Overall: still have issues that are not resolved, not great follow up. My rep is Helpful. that is about it from here.

Pros: Ease of use.

Cons: The payroll module could use some upgrading.

Overall: We began our relationship with ParishSoft several years ago when they merged with Logos, our current software company at the time. Since then we have migrated our diocese over to ParishSoft products. I have to say the best thing for us is to be working with a company that knows the church and listens to its customers. I really feel like ParishSoft is our partner and a part of our diocese rather than just a software company.

Recommendations to other buyers: Give it a try. It is absolutely worth it! It is so much better working with a company that designed its software specifically, with us (church) in mind. I can't imagine ever going back to another company where you are just a one time sale and that's it.

Comments: 1. When we moved my database from an older parish soft database, I lost all kinds of information, all the notes for each family, and parishsoft changed the Do Not Send Mail settings on a large number of families without me realizing it so that the next mailing I did I had a $200 postage bill from all the returned mail that came back to me. It took me a week to fix all of it.

2. The wait time for customer service help is completly unaccepable. I am writing this review as I wait for someone to get to me... I have been waiting 25 minutes so far. Once you can get through to a human, the service reps are professional and helpful. You just need to set aside a good hour to get that help. I have started online tickets that disappear into internet space as well so that is not a reliable option.

3. When we switched to the newer database I was told I would have the same modules and report running capabilities as I had for the same price. I do not. I cannot run any reports as I used to do. I will have to spend more money to buy the module I need to run these reports. These reports are basic - percentage of givers in a dollar range, top givers etc).

If you can find a different option please do. I have been working with this software for 3 years and I can't say enough - find something else.

Comments: The Archdiocese of Boston has selected Connect Now (the web based program from ParishSoft) as the database management system for all parishes within the Archdiocese. As one of those parishes, we have been very disappointed with this product. First and foremost, it is extremely slow! Tech support at ParishSoft and within the Archdiocese continually try to make this a customer issue (you need more bandwidth, cleaner systems, etc) but that is not the case, I suspect that their servers were simply not adequately prepared to manage the load of all the parishes required to transition to their product. Secondly, there are so many design limitations and just plain bugs, that we are continually frustrated by lack of functionality (pick a module, any module). I understand that the folks at ParishSoft are working to address many of these issues, but there should be much more rigorous testing of modules before they are released. What was not made clear but what seems obvious now is that all parishes making the transition to Connect Now in the Archdiocese are beta customers paying full price - who does that?! It appears that there is no solid corporate structure in place for Testing and Quality Assurance - at least not one that is evident. This is made rather plain by how calls to customer support are handled. I also learned recently that when a customer calls in to request a new feature or to inquire about the lack of one, that the feature will be implemented with the next release but that sometimes, and here's the odd thing, that feature will result in a limitation for another customer. Is there no overall corporate review process for addressing design limitations and adding new features? Seems a bit piecemeal to me.
We are reminded at trainings about how feature rich the product is but if the features most needed are not working properly, the rest doesn't matter. If you have a choice, explore other options carefully before becoming so invested resource-wise that you can't back out.

Comments: We went into this believing that their customer support and ease of use by church members would be reliable. We were sold a bill of goods that are not good. Their ConnectNow system, a series of modules for ministry schedule, online giving, membership census, etc., is cumbersome, not obvious, and filled with bugs. Apparently they rolled it out without testing it thoroughly. We have had to hold hands with too many parishioners to get through it. We are now searching for another system.
