Pros

1. Highly configurable to meet business needs
2. Clause level approval
3. Upside Forms - highly customizable
4. Reporting capability
5. Ability to integrate with other systems
6. Contract request functionality

Cons

Very powerful tool; we have to hide the functionality that we currently do not use to make the tool as intuitive as possible. Upside Forms also helps with this.

Overall

Highly recommend Upside Contract for a robust contract creation and workflow approval and repository tool.

> Vendor Responses

UpsideContract does permit through the user interface, to hide functionality and as such tailor it to the type of user (e.g. a requester may only see the contract request feature).

The latest AMR/Gartner report (Nov 2009) has Upside Software in #1 position (out of 17 vendors on 17 different criteria).

Pros

As we initially evaluated the system, the cost and the benefit of the system had a very high ROI which meant great bang for your buck on managing contracts. We also opted to ASP solution so the cost of maintenance was fixed and the support from Upside has been speedy and very responsive which we wouldn't have the same support level with internal IT department.

Cons

The hosting facility we used was not as stable as anticipated due to DDos attack. Some of the admin functionality could be more user friendly i.e. security configuration could be in one screen instead of 4 different ones. Also there's no way to setup bulk user setup from the front end.

Overall

Every organization's contract management requirements are different. We selected Upside based on our own criteria and found Upside on the top of the list to manage our overall contracts. We would suggest for each organization to determine their business drivers and vendor selection criteria to drive their own decision to determine the best solution for their company.

> Vendor Responses

We offer a choice for hosting providers as Upside does not directly host. Some hosting providers are better than others and there's a price difference in the services. In this case, the lower cost hosting provider has some inherent issues with their offering.

The latest AMR/Gartner report (Nov 2009) has Upside Software in #1 position (out of 17 vendors on 17 different criteria).

Pros

Language control for contract terms and conditions. Good contract lifecycle management functionality

Cons

System performance is slow when used in a multi company, multi country application

Overall

Recommended for contract lifecycle management and control of legal T's & C's

> Vendor Responses

For locations where there's only a dialup connection (i.e. 28.8Kbps) the issue will be downloading a contract and related attachments that are 3-5MB. It will definitely be slower than where you have connections of cable/dsl or higher.

The latest AMR/Gartner report (Nov 2009) has Upside Software in #1 position (out of 17 vendor on 17 different criteria).

Pros

- Excellent Workflow engine.
- Fulfills users needs.
- Performance is pretty good on the backend.
- Excellent customer support.
- Company works with its user base.
- Reasonably priced.

Cons

- Old technology - the users hate the screen redraw when selecting different rows. V6 does this as well.
- Not all modules are kept up to date. V6 updated the contracts module, but not the billing module.
- Very tricky to get working correctly. We have worked for years to get minor issues corrected (services stopping, stuck contracts, etc.). Eventually an answer is found, but it takes time.
- Screen configuration tools do not allow the users to configure ALL of the screen, only part of it.

Overall

Upside is still the best of breed, but it could be better. It should be faster for the users (perhaps use Ajax). We chose it once, and we probably would again.

> Vendor Responses

The latest version (6.4) is about 18 months newer than the v5.4 being used by the client and as such has many of the improvements suggested, including use of Ajax and so forth. We have definitely listened to our customers and have improved (and continue to do so). The latest AMR/Gartner report (Nov 2009) has Upside Software in #1 position (out of 17 vendor on 17 different criteria).

Pros

This software tool has all of the features typically required in all industry applications and is easy to use, easy to upgrade, and this company provides outstanding support.

Cons

If there are any components of the software we struggle with, it is the check in/check out template negotiation feature. Due to our process, we find it difficult to leverage this feature due to the number of steps needed to work through changes made by the other party, however, it works well with more streamlined templates that require little or no redlining.

Overall

The UpsideContracts tool works great and meets our needs. We enjoy great highly responsive customer and technical support, and look forward to continuing to grow our business while working with Upside. This is the best tool we have evaluated and the best company to work with once you have made a purchase decision.

> Vendor Responses

There's a new feature where the check in/out process can be done very simply through use of email and avoids going through the process described. It is available in 6.4.1 and higher.

The latest AMR/Gartner report (Nov 2009) has Upside Software in #1 position (out of 17 vendor on 17 different criteria).
