Pros: Easy

Cons: Update program

Overall: Easy to use and update contacts plus searching and doing mailings is done quickly. Plus I use the group feature to do target marketing.

Pros: Organization and logic

Cons: Syncing with Outlook and Gmail can be difficult.

Overall: Have been an ACT user for over a decade. Works well, but syncing with Outlook and Gmail has been rough. Version 19 is much better, but still needs some work. It would be nice if ACT provided tech support for the first 90 days without paying all the time. Also would like to see contact photos added as it is in Outlook.

Recommendations to other buyers: Add contact photos similar to Outlook and iPhone contacts. Improve choices for syncing with Gmail calendar and Outlook. Add symbol to advise owner that the syncing with Outlook or Gmail is working correctly. I always have to check after sending emails to see if really added it to the history.

Hi Fred, Thanks for your review! Did you know it is possible to add a photo to an Act! contact? You can edit your contact layout to include a picture field. Once this has been added, you can display any photo you like within the field. Regarding the Outlook email history attachments, there is an icon that looks like an envelope with a red X which will display in your taskbar if there are some emails which have been sent but not attached to an Act! contact. This is intended to notify you that these histories will be missing and will give you the option of manually choosing a contact to record them to, or creating a new contact from the info provided. Pros: Ease of inputting and finding any client or prospect, When I can do a mail merge it is great,

Cons: Does not work properly with Windows. Contracts terminate to soon. Have never been able to use it with Outlook

Overall: Overall I think it is a very good program. I have had ACT since 2001. My issues tend to be more technical and ACT's non compatibility issues with Windows , as Windows keeps changing. I also know that I have not used much of the program. I will be getting an update and hope to be able to get better training on the whole program.

Overall: I have been using the ACT! product for over 17 years. It is simply the Best! I love the automatic upgrade version when you subscribe to ACT! Premium. You always have the latest and greatest version at your fingertips.

Comments: I've used
ACT for years - probably 15 years now. Have used the payroll system as well, but don't have employees now. Moved my mom's estate trust books over to it as well. Great software and as to the customer support, I haven't called very often. Thank you!

Comments: In my 30+ years in Marketing and Sales, I have used Zoho, Sales Force et.....and I always go back to my ACT. It helps me stay organized, informed and meet my deadlines. The tech team is the best with my ACT Premium 18.2 version support, always have solved my problems in a short amount of time. Thank You

Pros: Very easy to use. Easy to back up and easy to customize.

Cons: It has a tendency to add my contact to repeat appointments. A glitch in the system I find VERY annoying.

Overall: I have used ACT! Since version 2.0. I love it still. It is very powerful and functional even though I hardly use the advanced features.

Pros: easy to understand and figure out

Cons: needs to be kept up to date with other competitive contact database systems on the market?

Overall: I have used ACT for over 20 years now in my business. I find it to be very user friendly once customer service explains to me anything I don't know. It integrates well with email and excel programs. A classic contact database system for all!

Recommendations to other buyers: Love the way I have just learned to export certain ID status contacts into excel programs for labels and sharing . Yee haw!

Comments: When we got the first PC over 20 years ago, we looked for contact software for my husband's business. The products we found were ACT! and GoldMine. At the time ACT! seemed more robust. I set up my husband's data base and created custom forms for his business. The software did everything he needed. We are both retired now and the business database contains only a few people. I finally got the personal address books (plural!) consolidated in ACT! some years ago and also use it to maintain Christmas card lists and to print envelopes. I keep notes on directions to peoples homes, children, grandchildren, etc. etc. It seems a bit expensive for my purposes, but I haven't found any "address book" software that can do what I'm accustomed to having in ACT! Since I don't need the latest and greatest features, I don't update the software every time there is a new version. I do appreciate being to pay a single charge for the software as opposed to a monthly fee. Since you took over ACT!, my only contact has been to upgrade my software. I did pay for installation support this time. I don't remember the man's name at the moment, but he was great - especially since there was a problem with the install which he was able to correct. Keep up the good work.

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Some of the features I will never use and some of the features take some time to learn how to use.

Overall: I have been using the program for 15 years. I like that when I last upgraded I did not have to learn everything over again! Microsoft does this and I don't care for it. I use mostly the contact database. However, I expect to purchase another copy of the program because of a new contract that will have extensive telemarketing and reporting.

Pros: I can track my customers and their email addresses.

Cons: The confusion with accessing customers.

Overall: Sometimes the amount of data is confusing because there are so many programs to monitor. I would find it easier if there was a program attached the file explaining usage without having to call tech support.

Pros: That it is pretty easy to use without training.

Cons: I wish it integrated with social media

Overall: I really like my Act for helping me be paperless. Putting reminders when to get back with a customer. Putting mailing list together. It basically takes the place of my private secretary.

Pros: It does what I need it to do and it's easy to use

Cons: Can't think of any!

Overall: I work from home and Act is like having a secretary in my office to keep track of all my customers for me. Its easy to use has a lot of features although I probably don't use it for everything it can do.
I have been using it for over 15 years and wouldn't think of using anything else.

Pros: Relatively easy to learn to use. Great for scheduling follow up calls, initial contacts and meetings.

Cons: Occasionally it has some "glitches" that cause it to close but I have not lost any info yet.

Overall: This is a great product for managing a large number of customer contacts including those with multiple activities and those needing specific follow up. Makes customer emails and history VERY easy and literally at your fingertips!

Pros: Ability to stay in contact, especially the reminders it is capable of generating

Cons: Sometimes slow to load. It still doesn't load the necessary SQL files.

Overall: I depend on ACT to keep in touch with my clients for Annual Reviews and Birthday Cards. I send cards to all family members so it helps to keep my name in front of them. Couldn't be a successful agent without it.

Comments: I find use of ease is good for how we use the program. I would like to be able to duplicate a contact with the Groups section to also copy and that the Groups section could be edited from the Company screen for all the contacts. All of the other benefits I find great. I also greatly appreciate the wonderful customer service when I call in!!!!

Pros: Allows me to record my complete history of contact with my prospects and customers

Cons: Can't think of a thing

Overall: Been using ACT for over 30 years tracking my sales contacts and customers. Helps me track when I've talked to people and what we talked about. Also records my emails. Use it monthly to send out newsletters and promotions with the Mailmerge feature. Great tool!

Cons: Want you to pay extra for Tech Support. Plus Tech Support is out of India. Language barrier.

Overall: Needed help, they told me I had to buy tech support. I had bought this and then a couple months later I needed help. Wanted me to spend more money. Plus, tech support is all outsourced to India. Do NOT BUY!!! I called a manager in AZ asking for my money back, she was not helpful at all and would not give my money back. Not friendly at all! They can take their software and put it where the sun doesn't shine. I will never buy a thing from the company!

Cons: Losing call notes when I have to reinstall.....and Windows 10 does not support SQL, so have to make sure its running

Overall: Very easy and useful. I can set up my own fields and layouts, export easily for reports or maps. Highly recommend.

Pros: Easy to use. Stable unless it gets bogged-down with attachments, but cleaning the database fixed that issue.

Cons: We wish that the database could be a little bit robust. Our contacts have reached over 40,000 now, and it seems that ACT is a program designed for smaller databases.

Overall: We use ACT every single day! I like the easy installation, support has been great as well! We haven't tried the remote function yet, but would like to sometime this year.

Pros: Ease of use and intuitive interface

Cons: The ACT e marketing could be changed but we maybe a unique circumstance.

Overall: We had a few issues with this product but the ACT! support team has resolved them quickly with minimal down time. Their knowlagebase is also a huge help to all the users of ACT!. We are currently running V17 but looking at migrating to their cloud version.

Cons: Update the templates in mail merge function. They are really old.

Overall: ACT is an outstanding CRM tool, but we use it in multiple ways to not only connect and keep connecting with our customers and prospects, but also use the mail merge function to create packing slips, invoices, and sales orders for our products. Smaller firms leverage all tools they have, and ACT is used across our platform for many multiple uses making it most cost effective and productive for our operation.

I've always had great customer service from the reps. Very friendly and resourceful individuals

Cons: The online version is very different from the desk top

Overall: I have been using act for a little of 9 years and find this software easy to use. The online option could use some improvement and email marketing could use more templates. The overall program is easily adaptable to any business. I use Act for two totally different businesses and is very effective for both business. I do find it pricey but you get what you pay for.

Pros: Notes are an essential part of this software for me that I am able to access on my smartphone

Cons: I am a visual learner and need someone to teach me how to utilize the various components of the software

Overall: I learned ACT! when working for an Hawai I real estate firm. The learning curve was challenging but well worth it.
I became so dependent on it, that when I left the job, I purchased it for my personal use on my personal computer. I do not use it for business, thus the many features do not apply to me, but I am happy to be able to sync it to my smartphone and have my info at my finger tips at all times.

Cons: I hate doing the database back up. I wish as a feature one database back is available online.

Overall: This product has kept me at the top of my fields. Not a typo fields, two totally different types of sales. Customer management = success.

Comments: I have been an avid user of ACT! since the early 90s and it blows my mind that they totally missed the boat on CRM / SaaS. IF ALL they would do is allow us to import out Old ACT Databases into the cloud and use it - this would be a slam dunk. but they never make it easy do they.

In addition, they keep on changing ownership - I wonder if there is 1 person left in the product development team who knows the history of the product.

Comments: I have used ACT since sometime in the 1990's. In the late 90's my wife joined me in the insurance business and we have used ACT ever since, in spite of the suggestions by our company that we use another product. Pros: It is integrated into Word

Cons: Act Pro uses a separate window for notes. The other Act programs allowed you to change add notes directly to the window. I like the direct add and change to actual window.

Overall: I have been using Act for 30 years in business and retirement. It continues to save me lots of frustration. If I want to know something that happened five years ago, I go to act and I find it. It is a perfect aspirin for any a data headache.

Pros: Layout and look. All the different features and uses.

Cons: Sometimes when I print address labels, it will go and grab the actual address instead of the PO Box. Also 1 wrong click and suddenly everyone connected with a company has that company's address. Also really had a hard time with Birthday reports. I just want 1 specific month, not everyone in random order. SQL servers don't always boot up.

Overall: Since I've updated it's been 1 a headache after another. I kept ACT Bc of my familiarity with the product. But now I have problems with SQL servers not starting, lost a database, and have to pay for customer service? The Customer support guys do work hard to fix your Problem. But paying to fix a problem ACT created or overlooked seems greedy. So minus 2 stars. Also getting some of the reports is not as easy as it uses to be. I don't use all the features of this software but some of it would be great, but now redundant as I have other programs handling those for me. Overall it's just "C" maybe "C+" for me.

Recommendations to other buyers: Fix the above. Also if there is a software glitch I shouldn't have to buy customer support to fix it.

Comments: I first started using ACT in 2001 during my first job at a Publishing Company. I loved the simplistic ease of the software. My entire career sales habits have been molded by this product. Fast forward 15 years. I started my own company in 2012 and began to use ACT once again. However, I did upgrade to the online cloud version. From at point on I began to have many issues and bugs. The customer service is extremely difficult to contact (wait times of up to an hour or two) to reach anyone. I didn't feel their cloud version was up to par with other established online cloud CRM's. For this reason, I ultimately stopped using ACT. IF ACT were to develop a product similar to ZOHO or HiRise with stellar customer service, I would be a returning customer. Cloud is the only way to go now.

Comments: Act! CRM software has been around for a long time and is a widely used and accepted product. But you would think for a company that has been around so long, they would have implemented a more user-friendly interface and function. Act! claim to fame is being able to work with other products, but that comes at a cost. Consider initial investment, costs for special reporting and connectivity, and the ability or inability to move your data from Act! to another program should you decide to switch before purchase.

Comments: Act! is a pretty good package and we benefit from it as a business. We are highly invested in it as part of our workflow, but unfortunately, there are complexities to using it that often slow us down or cause us to bypass using it to it's fullest capacity, which is inefficient.

This being said I feel that there could be a few changes in functionality that would improve (for us, at least) the group (or shared) activity capability that the program has. I would be delighted to give you more details about my thoughts and the thoughts of my teammates.

There needs to be a simple mechanism that we can use to send suggestions.

Tech support is almost always very good, but there are occasional exceptions when under-trained tech reps keep us on the phone longer than necessary trying to figure out the problem but just giving canned responses, without really understanding the software deeply. It happens but not often.

Pros: Updates give me more feature functionality. And I can easily find and add information on my contacts.

Cons: Right now I have the Premium Edition - I was unable to work off site. I plan to upgrade to the cloud edition which will allow me to work on site.

Comments: There are several features that have been requested for some time. One is the ability of ACT to recognize a read receipt as a valid email and allow it to be attached to a contact. The second is partly new and supposedly will be addressed in the January release. That is the issue with ACT 18 and Outlook 2016 during a mail merge. Having to make ACT your email editor in order to do a mail merge was a workaround and not a solution. It Meant some things like the email address of the recipient was not shown. This makes it more work to determine what was the issue when an email gets bounced back. The other is older and again, I was told will be addressed in the new release and that is during an ACT/Outlook mail merge any logo in the sender's signature block becomes and attachment.

Overall: We have been using ACT! for a long time now and I've been happy with it. We've only had to back up the database once, (because it was too overloaded with data & attachments), but otherwise, it's been a stable product for us. Easy to use, nice for our small business and your tech support is very helpful!

Recommendations to other buyers: Maybe make it easier to setup auto-backups and sending an email when it's done. (It's not working for me and I have to manually save the database by going into File/Backup.

Pros: Without ACT I could not compete as well as I do in the sales world for it is changing every day. I need ACT to help track my customers my orders my RFQ's and so many other things without it I wouldn't have a job today. I see so many salespeople who won't invest in ACT who sales numbers could be so much better I tell them about ACT but they don't seem to want to invest in their future and their future sales that could be so much better.

Cons: I cannot find one thing wrong with ACT I have been using it approximately 20 years and never had a problem I cannot say this about other database programs I have had to use when I worked for other companies. Some of them were super complicated took hours of work just to get your data in whereas using ACT it was a breeze putting data in and saving data of all kinds.

Overall: I have been using ACT's since 1999 and this year I turned 74 and I'm still selling with the very best of them. I sell power supplies to industry and without ACT there is no way I could compete in the world of sales today without ACT, I put everything and anything that helps me sell more in a very competitive field including emails, quotes, power supply spec, and notes. I see so many people who will not invest in this program or database if they did their sales would be much higher nobody can remember everything but ACT does. In all the years I have used at never a problem of any kind I do keep it on three computers as the backup just in case there's a crash of one of my computers. I backup my database 2 to 3 times a week making sure I have everything when I need it. The thing I like most about ACT when I go to sales meetings I have all my information right in front of me on my laptop and so many people don't. So when I am questioned about any customer I can look in my notes and have the answers I need, without ACT my sales numbers would be much lower.

Pros: It always saves without having to be told to save. It is so easy to add information to.

Overall: I work in sales and need a concise way to keep track of people I contact. ACT provides the perfect vehicle where I can keep track of notes, histories and upcoming tasks. Overall: ACT! is the first electronic database that I ever used. Before ACT! I used a plastic recipe box to keep track of future follow-ups and notes. I feel sure that I have used ACT! for over 20 years. I have over 4,500 contacts in ACT!. I use it to keep track of notes of conversations with clients, track future follow-ups, write letters, send e-mails and keep my appointment calendar. I know that ACT! has a lot more uses then I take advantage of. I see the tabs. The service department is very helpful when I reach them. Many times there are long wait periods even though I pay an annual fee for their premier service. I continue to recommend ACT! to others.

Overall: I have gotten very used to ACT! over the past 6 years. In regard to the individual records, all the fields are what I need to make my job easier. The only issue I have is developing templates which is a challenge -- but it may be the result of not having the most recent version. The templates do not issue the way they appear after I do them -- fonts and spacing sometimes different and I need to jigger a lot as I create them. Other than the template issues I really rely on the history and records.

Overall: I remember when I received my first beta copy. I think it was on CPM or possibly PC-DOS. I have been an active user ever since. Cons: The annual cost is the worst. Loading forecast for an order is confusing. Originally it was very easy. I need an easy method to confirm my data is being backed up.

Overall: I find your foreign technicians eager to help but their use and understanding of the English language are weak and often non-understandable. I am still not sure if my data is being backed up.
On top of that, I pay a huge amount per year now compared to a couple of hundred every 2-3 years to purchase updates.

Overall: I have used Act! from the beginning. With that, I mean from inception to today. As a sales representative, I became an expert user of Act! It served as the foundation for my success and gave me an unfair advantage over my peers. While my fellow sales reps worked harder and harder, I worked harder but smarter, winning every sales contest and breaking a few records in the process. As a Regional Sales Manager and VP of Sales, I used the science that Act! afforded me with while my competitors relied on luck. Now, as a consultant, I recommend and teach Act! as the foundation of a solid process. I have turned down consulting contracts because the client company did not and would not install Act! As a sales writer, published in such magazines as Selling Power and Life Insurance Selling, I have recommended and used Act! in dozens of articles and a few books. Act! is key to a successful sales career.

Comments: I have grown my company from 1 person (me) to 26, from 1 client to over 1200 and I credit ACT! 100%. The reason? I can track my pipeline, create an activity series to send thank you's for referrals, birthday cards for major clients (and subcontractors) as well as series to remind me when contracts expire. Cons: Have had problems configuring my display on Mac Pro when Windows updates my Mac running Parallels. ACT! support has always fixed the problem.

Overall: I have been using ACT! since V.6. Presently I use V.18 on the cloud and synchronize it with Companion Link on my Blackberry phone, Android tablet and Mac Pro computer with Parallels. I depend on ACT! for scheduling appointments, contacts, email, keeping track of business opportunities, etc. Several time that I needed help from tech support and have always been very pleased with the availability and quality of prompt service. It is comforting to have this important information kept secure and readily available from anywhere anytime. I highly recommend the program and am willing to answer questions from prospective users.

Cons: Since my days on the beta team, I have asked that if you highlighted a phone number overseas it would tell you the local time of day and whether that was a business day or a holiday. Tech development teams have always said that is a fantastic idea dating back to version about 2.0 but it has never been implemented.

Overall: I run an international consulting business with customers in Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and all over English-language North America to the north of the Arctic Circle. I could not have built this 25-year business without ACT! In retirement, I am serving as a university professor. I have over 7500 contacts in my database. ΒΆ

Cons: Customization is complicated and requires hiring an expert in most cases. Not user friendly. Search function is barely useful.

Overall: ACT is a disappointing experience. Instead of making it easy to manage a contact database, the software works against you. Its inflexible and requires constant oversight to keep up to date. There are also many quirks that come along with importing new contacts and great care must be taken when doing an import so as to not screw up the data. Overall user experience is poor.

Pros: The onboarding process. I had personal attention from my CSM and access to a "bat line" that I could call anytime I needed a quick answer. Act-On University, their comprehensive support site/forum, is so thorough and has clear instructions for every process. I've never had such a pleasant experience learning new software as I did with Act-On. I felt incredibly supported!

The software itself is intuitive, simple, and easy to use. Every time I think of a feature I wish it had, I do a quick search in the help (aka Act-On University, which is incredible), and turns out, it DOES do that! I have been delighted over and over again.

The automation features are wonderful; it's simple to create an automated program with their drag/drop interface.

Cons: The integration with Salesforce is clean, but the process of adding information from SFDC to my lists in Act-On could be clearer. I struggled for the first few weeks understanding what all I needed to do to include new information from my CRM.

I loved my CSM, but her schedule was packed so full that I could only get on her calendar once a week. We needed to get up and running really quickly so I ended up having to do a lot of my onboarding myself, which meant I missed some things. We rectified them eventually, but I wish I'd had better access to my CSM in the early days.

It would be helpful to more easily push subscription information back to my CRM system. We had to do this with a "hack" and it isn't pretty.

Overall: We and our clients have used Act! Software for many years. Act is a little behind the times now when there are so many competitors available today. Why would you consider staying using Act software. There are many other products that work and are more useful than ACt software.

Comments: Firstly, I'm an Act! Certified Consultant and I sell and provide services around Act! and have done so since 2001.

Although I'm not a client, I have continually had to make an assessment about whether Act! is the right product for our prospective and existing clients.

My personal experience is that there is no single software product that is suitable for every business. If you are a big enterprise, Act! isn't the product you are going to invest in. For small business though it should be at the top of your list to review.

Act! has a greater depth and depth of functionality for the price of any CRM software in the market for the small business users. If there was something that were better I'd be inclined to be offering it to our clients. Act! has been around for nearly 30 years and the many things that you are likely to want to be able to do, Act! just does. Many of the small, simple, day to day tasks will be made easier by your use of Act!. Act! is a product that you will hear many loyal and satisfied clients say that they Love and that they can't do without. Act! is easy to use and it's highly configurable. It excels in a MS Windows environment, so if you are running a server with some desktops and laptops it's an ideal solution. It will run faster than any cloud based solution.

Act! comes with both a Windows and Web based access. You could have some using it on their desktop in the office, and others using it via the web browser. The Web version doesn't completely match the windows version for functionality, but the gap is closing. With Act! you can deploy it on your own server so you own and control your data. You can still have the advantage of a web based login but know that your database is in an environment you control. Act! has a range of excellent third party add-ons that en-rich it's functionality and with a new API in the latest 18.1 version there will be many more integrations between Act! and other web based applications.

If I were to simplfy where I see Act! in the market it would be to say it sits in the middle of the basic cloud offerings like Pipedrive, Insightly, Highrise etc. and the full blown CRM's from Saleforce, SugarCRM and Microsoft. If you are an established business that is looking for a best in class CRM to work on your MS Windows platform and still provide good mobile and web browser based access then Act! is ideal.

Comments: I have used ACT! for 10 years. Generally a good program. A number of bugs that never get resolved even over revisions. Support is poor unless you pay $$$. Rather than try to service customers, ACT! is trying to maximize profit as they convert to a subscription only service. This results in about $500 year cost to run the software for a single person with support.

Comments: I've used previous versions of ACT!, when they were owned by Sage, and had no problems. Went to upgrade to v17, and my computer wouldn't allow the install, saying that there was a "reboot pending". There was no reboot pending, but I did reboot 3 times. It never even installed. I called "support", only to find out that they would only give me support to install their product if I purchased a support plan - WHAT BS! I can't even get the program to install and they want to charge me for support.

Comments: The website is totally useless to show me how to import my ACT! 2000 database. Their customer service line is only open Monday-Friday. Instructions are incomplete and unclear...and the links they supply send you in circles. Gave up after two hours. Glad I tried the 30-day free trial. If it's this hard to get started, I can't imagine what it would be like to try to cancel. I've used Act! for more than twenty years. I think I'm done.

Comments: Be careful as Act does not integrate with Office 2013 very well. Intergrated email and quoting into word templates do not function correctly.
