Pros: We were a fast growing company that relied upon file servers to house our data. We experimented with OneDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox and none of these products met our expectations. Box met all of our expectations for cloud based storage and are adding more useful features all the time.

Overall: Professional document management to fit all of our needs!

Box is my principal cloud drive, it was a game changer in terms of multi-platform functionality.

Pros: It offers a no-frills, yet powerful, cloud drive that I can use on my PCs, Mac and iPad to backup and share files across my platforms. Being an early iPad Box user I got 50 Gb of free storage, and I am thinking of buying some more space. It works seamlessly,

Cons: Upload and download speeds can be sub-optimal with my free plan, but to be fair I haven't tried a paid plan yet.

Overall: Trouble-free cloud storage and sharing among various platforms.

Pros: * File sharing capabilities
* Collaboration capabilities
* Simple

Cons: The only con right now is that if you sign up for the free version is that the upload limit is very small (250mb), but the storage space is a decent size of 10gb, but the personal pro version is only a small monthly price with the advantage of a 5gb upload limit and 100gb of storage space. That seems pretty reasonable to me!

Overall: Clients seem to like using box to share any necessary files, it's nice that they can share a direct link where the file can be downloaded directly without needing an account. File sharing and collaboration features are a plus.

Recommendations to other buyers: Since a free version is offered, why not try it out and see how you like it?

Pros: Ability to expire links, privacy setting options

Cons: It can get a bit pricey for larger teams with multi-media files.

Overall: I've used Box for the past 6 years and have never been disappointed. I like the ability to set the various privacy settings for different folders, and love the expiration ability for files shared that you don't want to have available for eternity. For us, it makes sharing files with customers a snap.

Pros: Easy to share documents while controlling access. Can set various permission levels.

Cons: Can get a little pricey if you sharing with multiple users.

Overall: This service was recommended by an external consultant. We needed a robust, simple to use cloud storage and sharing service. Though similar to Dropbox, Box has more features. Very easy to control who has access to documents. Plus it stores previous versions of the document when edits and changes are being made.

Recommendations to other buyers: Has a free trial. Sign up for it and see for yourself.

Pros: Strong security. Data ownership model. Flexibility of collaboration and sharing options. Platform and vendor agnostic. Good administrative controls. Reasonably good reporting. Reasonably good APIs. Ease of use for end users. It's been great watching the creativity and innovation of the users. They've found ways to do things with Box we never imagined when we signed on.

Cons: The desktop sync is different than and technically inferior to that of Dropbox, the consumer tool most users are familiar with in this space. We anticipate this change when Box for Desktop is released in 2017. We'd also like to see the maximum file size increase. I'd like to see improvements in the administrative reporting. Many users have trouble getting their head around Box's waterfall permission model, particularly IT professionals. It's different than what they are used to. It ads an impediment to the retirement of NFS.

Overall: I run Box for over 100K users in a large university. Box is built for the enterprise. It has very solid security, good user management and an extremely small support footprint. There are consumer tools that might beat Box on some individual features, but cannot hold a candle to Box when held up to the needs and realities of a large enterprise. Box is platform and vendor agnostic. It has solid mobile apps and 3rd party integrations. The API is strong and improving all the time. Box can be the content layer for both internal and externally-facing applications.

We signed on to Box to bring our IP back in from consumer tools. It has largely accomplished that but it has additional surprising results. We've seen some very creative innovations in research collaboration, teaching and administration. The productivity gains have been far greater than expected.

Box is a bit of a paradigm shift for users. Those who never ventured into consumer cloud tools such as Dropbox need to learn about basic cloud concepts of where their data is backed up. IT professionals need to get their heads around Box's permission model as well as deal with the loss of direct user management and support. Having said that, the overall support footprint is startling low. We average 5 technical tickets a week on Box for over 100K users. Most of our support time is on training and consulting to help users get the most out of the tools Box provides.

The bottom line is that Box has proven to be very solid and flexible. Our users have really taken it and run with it.

Recommendations to other buyers: Box's data ownership model is one of the things that makes it stand apart from the rest. Before rolling out Box to your users make sure you have developed a plan for "non-personal"/departmental accounts. This lets the departments own the department's data rather than individual users. This makes staffing changes must smoother. This does NOT mean you administratively lock down individual users' accounts. We believe in encouraging our users to use Box as fully as possible so they become proficient in all its tools. This leads to the best ROI and the most creative innovations. Once your core team really learns the tool, send them (or you) out to individual departments to teach them tips and tricks, design their department's base folder structure, and brainstorm on creative uses of the tool. The effort will pay off tenfold.

Pros: It does make it easy to share files, sync across devices, and collaborate somewhat.

Cons: It can be hard to organize files and after years of using it the top level folder can become cluttered with all the shared folders, you're a member of. It's particularly confusing sometimes when you're not the owner of the folder to know where things are kept.

Overall: As a user of both Box and other product, I prefer other product for it's more appealing interface and because I just find it simpler to use. Box is still good, though, and has similar features.

Pros: Clean interface, good colors, Box Sync, custom sharing/security options

Cons: Sometimes sync takes a bit longer than I anticipate, people have a tendency to upload duplicate files - neither of these is really Box's fault, though.

Overall: When you look at the big picture, most of the cloud-based file sharing companies all do the same thing: organize documents and files in folders that can be shared with other people. What I like about Box is that it does this with a clean, easy-to-understand interface. There are icons, sure, but most of them actually make sense and are located somewhere on the page that makes sense. I like versioning and being able to access previous versions, and I LOVE Box Sync - open from a file folder, make the edit, and save - no downloading and re-uploading necessary!

Comments: We use Box at my company. It's frustrating to use, but I must say, I don't think it's an issue with the Box software, more of an issue of how we use it. It's very difficult to find anything in Box. People will have specific categories set up but will put it places where it doesn't belong. For some reason, the search tool doesn't always find exactly what we are looking for. I'll type in the name of a brochure that should be in the "brochure" file, but it's not there. If I look at the "Marketing tools", I'll find it. Not sure why the search didn't work. The concept is great, but I haven't had the greatest luck using it...Again, maybe it's how our company is using it, not so much the software.

Pros: Box provides a lot of storage for a small price. GUI on their website is very user-friendly, can easily replace a new version of a file and track previous versions. Has office integration (which is a huge plus)

Cons: I can't think of any, it is the best storage solution.

Overall: Box is an online storage service that gives you the ability to access your files anywhere on any computer. Easily share folders and files by simply clicking on the share button. Definitely in the top 3 cloud solutions at the moment.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do yourself a favor and try this solution, you'll see you won't go back to dropbox and the others.

Pros: Love the app that goes with it that allows you to work on your desktop but save directly to Box. This means you can be working on your local machine but saving on the cloud. The mobile app is also easily accessible to find, store and save files directly from your mobile device.

Cons: The search function is not as refined. It's hard to do searches for files sometimes.

Overall: Love using Box. Going to the cloud means you can access files anywhere you want. You also have the flexibility of sharing files with people outside your organization.

Pros: It was free.

Cons: Ease of use. It was confusing and counterintuitive. Bulk uploader was buggy. I eventually abandoned the bulk uploader for the web based version.

Overall: I had to use box because a particular client wanted files transferred by box. Box would not have been my first choice as I am familiar with Dropbox for Business and with HighTail. Box operates similarly to other file sharing programs but it seems to have some limitations. You can't share more than 100 files at once without downloading a bulk uploader. That's pretty standard for file sharing apps, but the problem with Box is that their bulk uploader was an antiquated java plugin which didn't operate smoothly at all. I gave up on it and just had to upload 99 photos at a time and then continue to upload more photos after it was done. There were some other functions it has that I did not use but could come in handy. For instance there was a space to comment on a file so that you might be able to share that with a client that will be looking at the file.

Recommendations to other buyers: It might require more use time to learn all the functions, but for people that need to get files exchanged fast, and clients that may not be that tech savvy, this may not be the best choice for file sharing.

Comments: We are a large construction company with hundred of users across the country. Trying to get all of the data to everyone that needed it from an on-prem, centralized platform was near impossible. Box has allowed our remote employees to access the data they need, from whatever connection or device they have available. Not to mention the cost savings from not having to purchase local servers, storage and backup for the file shares. We are also able to more easily collaborate with outside users. Great product.

Pros: Sharing documents with team members, and offering collaboration on documents. I like though can also regulate who can see certain documents, and allow access to certain team members.

Cons: I wish it didn't take up so much space on my computer, I have had problems with that.

Overall: I love being abele to easily share and edit documents. The box note is a easy way to collaborate with team members, and the commenting. It's great to have all company documents in one location. Sharing document links though slack as well is a great way share too.

Recommendations to other buyers: For images for the blog, it makes it very easy to upload to Hubspot, rather than going through the box website.

Pros: Ease of use

Cons: Looks like it has fewer options than other solutions

Overall: Box can be an alternative to other file sharing software. Though I feel like it doesn't provide the breadth of options that other sources do, such as Dropbox. I used it briefly in my previous job but think we definitely did not use to its full potential.

Pros: The best part of Box is its partnership with Microsoft for collaboration and ease of creating new documents.

Cons: Office online is not a full replacement for Office yet so Box is not a one-stop solution.

Overall: Once Box partnered with Microsoft it became far more powerful and a better competitor than it ever was before. Box probably has the best collaboration for businesses in terms of using Sharepoints and ensuring multiple copies of a file aren't flying all over the place. Microsoft still has many improvements to make to their Office online applications so this will improve Box over time too. It is only my second favorite because I personally love Google Drive with Docs/Sheets/etc. for instant real-time collaboration with export capabilities to just about any format.

Currently I have one book stored and from the Box app I was able to send it to my iBooks and read off of my iBooks. I have also done this with comic books. Comments: I've used Box, OneDrive, and Egnyte in the past. Box has basic cloud storage features that you'd expect from any of these tools. However, the features available are lacking.

In Sales, sharing to external parties that do not have login credentials and are just viewers is not as easy with Box as it was with Egnyte. Throwing sales collateral in a folder and being able to share one neat link is valuable to us but not easy to accomplish with Box.

Overall, it's a good tool. But if we have to purchase other solutions to compensate for where it lacks, then it's not as valuable as it might look up front.

Pros: Enterprise Ready, Secure, Easy to use and Anywhere access

Cons: Not really a BOX limitation, but some industries are not ready to adapt Cloud File Sharing services hence a hurdle for our users to collaborate efficiently.

Overall: BOX helped us modernize our way of file sharing and ease of collaboration and access, With time you need to move on and upgrade your processes and legacy systems, BOX definitely helped us with this and added great features and functionalities to allow both internal and external users to collaborate securely and efficiently. Simple to use, new features introduced to integrate better with other cloud services that enriches the experience further! Go BOX!

Pros: This is a great way for reps to keep up to date on the current releases of documents. Without Box, they can keep their own versions of documents, but when quality documents need to be kept up to date, this could be a problem.

Cons: It is hard to administer some times. Also, when new employees start or leave you need to add or remove access manually. Also, when you need to access the folders - you need to be online to do so. That can cause a problem.

Overall: We use box all the time. its something we use for our sales teams and internally within our organization. If we didn't have something like this, we would have issues keeping up to date with all the latest versions of brochures and papers.

Recommendations to other buyers: Box is a great way to keep things in one place, but you need to make sure you have some one to administer it and ensure everyone utilizes it properly.

Pros: Security is still my favorite feature - I have the confidence that our data is secure and will remain secure. Box meets a number of US based and international security regulations and data compliance requirements, Box makes governance and compliance easy.
Notifications based on file changes or folder changes have allowed us to create "instant workflows" to quickly move data from a variety of locations in the hands of a number of users. This has allowed us to create a system where data is not only securely stored, but able to be quickly acted upon by a geographically diverse group of staff.
Rolling Box seats out to new users is easy, and Box makes a wide variety of training materials available to its users to help them leverage the features.

Cons: There's not much to dislike - the feature set is good and continues to grow. If there is a downside, it is that - like all cloud based solutions - connectivity is required, and that can sometimes be a challenge for my organization is some of the remote international locations where we work.

Overall: I've been been a Box customer for about four years. During that time we've gone from a limited POC to a large scale international rollout. We've found Box to be very responsive both from a support standpoint and in terms of listening to their customers regarding features and needs.
The primary reason we initially chose Box was because of the outstanding security framework which was at the core of the initial offering and continues to be a key focus for Box. The management and governance features allowed us to roll it out to a geographically diverse group of employees with the assurance that their data would be secure and would remain secure.
Our initial need was to centrally replicate data from an international location. Based on the success of that POC, we've been able to replicate that success in a number of international locations and delay or eliminate the need for physical systems and storage that had previously been a part of our technology deployment.

Recommendations to other buyers: The cross platform functionality and integration with Office365 makes it an easy win that users will quickly begin to make use of once they begin to experience the features available from an always available collaborative storage solution. The more users you put on Box, the more useful it becomes as users begin to organically find ways to work collaboratively. Box also provides a well managed method for extending shares to external users as well, with the security and control that is consistent with the rest of their offerings.

Pros: The ease of deployment and setup. The mobile device ease of use.

Cons: Issues with Box Sync. Lack of in depth reports built in. Lack of features in the Administration Console.

Overall: We started with using Box for our Sales and Marketing department that we had just created. They dove into Box eagerly and have been very happy with it. It was a great opportunity to try out Box and see if it would work for the rest of our organization. I found use cases that made sense, like FTP replacement, to grow our usage of Box. We went from 25 to 50, 100, 150, 250 and now 350 users over the next couple of years. We are using Box for both internal and external collaboration. About half of our Box users access Box primarily on an iPad.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that you have clear plans for how you want to use Box before you role it out. A great implementation plan will go a long way towards use adoption.

Pros: The features I have found to be most helpful over other cloud storage platforms are:

1) Collaboration ¿ just not that it exists, but it is easy and user friendly. Allowing data that is necessary to be worked on to be brought to the surface

2) Security ¿ focus on compliance, encryption, enterprise grade management

3) 3rd Party Integrations ¿ allowing for Box to truly be a platform to be used with other software.

4) Mobile apps, very strong and easy to use

Cons: There are still some management features I would like to see improved, giving more control to IT. There is a good bit here, but could use a bit more.

Overall: There are many services if you are looking for a place to dump data. But what makes Box the best, are all the features that they layer on top of that. Collaboration, sync, edit, Office integration, great mobile apps, policies, preview, workflows, automations, and more.

At my company we have been able to leverage many of these features to meet specific needs of our end users that we would not have been able to easily meet with our existing resources or traditional platforms. We have been able to really leverage the platform to enable our users to gather data all over the world on almost any platform and then have staff anywhere else in the world act on that data. This has increased our response time tremendously over traditional platforms like email and FTP.

Box can really be a tool in your tool chest that can solve many problems.

Recommendations to other buyers: We are solving the need for quick, easy access to files across all timezones and continents. We've realized that instead of a process taking months, such as the verification of a file, it now takes a matters of days or in some cases just hours!

Pros: The integrations into our everyday software such as SalesForce and Office 365.

Cons: It's limited functionality with your Desktop (Box Sync).

Overall: What does a Cox company with explosive growth do to manage all of their information? With such an influx of emails and files pouring in, Manheim Digital did not have the time to ponder. We needed an efficient way to enhance our ability to manage, store and distribute information. This was no easy task considering the multitude of shared drives and personal clouds that held our information. In comes Box, Cox Automotive¿s official document repository and sharing tool. After unifying all of our files, we were able to retire two shared drives and also convert other cloud users to Box in the process. Also, with the integration of Office 365, we were able to structure distribution and sharing of files according to the many levels access in existence. With the same sized team, we've been able to stay productive and efficient with over 200% growth in the last year alone. Our utilization of Box, in combination with Office 365, has and will remain a pivotal key to our continued success.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try your best to integrate it's uses into your daily work and start replacing your software with instances of Box.

Pros: The Box web app and the Box Sync/Box Edit software are intuitive and easy for the new user to pick up quickly. For more experienced users, workflows can be designed and used to increase the efficiency and decrease the problems associated with file servers and other file sharing services. The Box API provides those who are inclined to develop applications a standard, with well documented features and flexibility that securely allow access to content and metadata.

Cons: The desktop applications Box Sync and Box Edit occasionally are impacted by Windows policies (IE permissions generally), which is not the fault of Box, just something to keep in mind when deploying to users. The administrator GUI search function for files is indiscriminate and doesn't allow for more complex searching.

Overall: As an Enterprise account administrator for around 6k users, I'm continually impressed with the pace and quality of improvements as well as the huge feature set Box already has. Box provides much more than simple file sharing, it also allows for automation and integration with existing workflows, the creation of new and more efficient processes, and the replacement of several dissimilar products we were using.

Recommendations to other buyers: When deploying Box in an Enterprise, keep in mind that with the ease of use it brings, it will soon become the de facto standard, and all users will need access. The user adoption rate of the software will soon outpace your license count.

Pros: Always available for users, which is great for our employees that travel a lot for clients.

Cons: Inability to change access to subfolders due to waterfall design.

Overall: Box has been great for our end users, though I do recommend good orientation for it and periodic training due to Box's updates (also a plus).

Recommendations to other buyers: It definitely takes getting used to coming from on-premises, but the abilities like mobile access, ease of use for end users, available training, unlimited storage, and of course Box Edit make it definitely worth it.

Pros: Ease of use and integrations with other tools.

Cons: The granularity of controls for some features and functions.

Overall: I get asked all the time what is Box... Why do i need Box if I have other tools... My elevator reply is... Box is so much more than just an Enterprise File Sync and Share tool... EFSS while so valuable is table stakes and many tools provide these features... Box just does them better. What you really need to look at is Enterprise Content Management... Box is a very strong player in Enterprise Content Management and that means so much more to organizations than EFSS and SharePoint and Filenet, while they are Enterprise Content Management tools they do not have the integrations, user experience, management and controls that Box has. The most important part of Box is Box as a platform... Box has APIs and Mobile SKDs that allow you to build custom apps and websites as well as use 3rd party applications. When you combine all of this together that is what makes it so powerful.

Recommendations to other buyers: Check it out... I assure you Box has the ability to transform your organization if you just give it a chance.

Pros: - Easy to administer. Security groups and waterfall permissions makes everything very easy.
- Integrated with Microsoft Office and offers co-authoring (multiple folks can be in one file at once).
- It just works!

Cons: - I'm not crazy about the Box Sync application that syncs Box files down to your hard drive. I've had a lot of issues with it taking up bandwidth and filling up hard drives when too much data is synced. Really looking forward to the rollout of Box Desktop that will stream the data and make these issues go away.
- Workflows need some work. An integration with DocuSign would be really nice.

Overall: We were a fast growing company that relied upon file servers to house our data. We experimented with OneDrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox and none of these products met our expectations. Box met all of our expectations for cloud based storage and are adding more useful features all the time.

Recommendations to other buyers: As an administrator of this app, I highly recommend that you determine your file structure and permissions before rolling it out to your users. I learned the hard way that granting everyone access to the top level folders and letting them create folders themselves was a bad idea.

Pros: It integrates fully with our identity provider, Okta as well as integrates with several other butt services we use such as Office 365.

Cons: I'd say that the product definitely does have some holes. I'm not completely bought into the waterfall permissioning model and I wish they should have integrated the governance package instead of pricing it separately.

Overall: Overall our implementation experts went above and beyond to make sure that we would see a high adoption of Box within our organization. Also, our Box CSM has been extremely engaged in taking feedback from our organization and helping us grow our use cases and implementation.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's hands down the best of both worlds for EFSS. It's enterprise ready, they have an awesome team backing Box, and it's very user friendly.

Pros: Security is at the forefront of everything we do, and Box nails this better than any other product in the space. From a end-user perspective the user interfaces for all of the apps (web, desktop, mobile) are intuitive and user-friendly which allows employees that are new to Box to get up and running quickly without a ton of training.

Cons: At this time the only pain point that still persists after 4 years as a customer is the waterfall permission structure.

Overall: Our organization has been using Box for about 4 years now and it has transformed the way we work both internally and with our customers.

Recommendations to other buyers: Box is a fantastic product with an equally fantastic team behind it that works daily to improve and innovate on it. We're currently in the process of migrating to Office 365 and we stand to benefit from even greater innovations that have recently allowed awesome features like real-time document collaboration. Our users are super excited!

Pros: The ease of use and user interface.
Abundance of ways to share, collaborate and keep our intellectual property safe.
The integrations possible due to their extensive API.

Cons: While it is not necessarily Box's doing, it is hard that the Microsoft Office integration with Mac is not as extensive as with a PC. So sometimes I have to tell our users 'that's not compatible with a Mac'.

Overall: As a small, globally dispersed team, we where struggling with the difficulties of Sharepoint to meet our needs. After evaluating Box- we decided that it met, and exceeded, all our needs! From the very first interaction to present day, we have had a great relationship with Box, thanks to their knowledgeable staff and willingness to assist us in our unique needs.

Recommendations to other buyers: There is a great team behind this software! They are knowledgeable, friendly and very, very willing to work with the different needs you have and listen to feedback!
