Comments: At first, we thought it would be a basic database type CRM, since the price is so reasonable. We needed more than that, and we got all that we needed. The generation of the acknowledgements, reports and the batching couldn't be easier. And, I can't tell you how great the customer service is. Top notch.

Pros: The help/faq section, tutorials, etc. Everything you need to know is in there with great examples. It's extremely easy to figure out.

Cons: I haven't found anything yet, but it's only been a month.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you're a low volume user, keep up with the classes, tutorials. They're there, might as well use them.

Comments: I converted my organization's database from FundRaiser in July and have not once regretted my decision. We previously tried to convert to a different database and after 2 days of on-site training with that company, I couldn't even locate a sample record. On the other hand, not only did I (and I'm not a tech person) migrate our entire database myself and merge additional Excel documents in, after only a couple of hours of reading instructions and playing around, I already understood not only how to locate a record but how to enter, report, send an acknowledgement, etc. I occasionally run into things that I can't figure out on my own or by reading the LGL blog but when I reach out to customer service, they respond so quickly and always are able to resolve my issue. I really can't think of anything that can't be done through LGL. We're so happy with it that we're now looking at integrating our payment processing and e-newsletter system so that we have the best data on our constituents possible. I cannot say enough good things about this product. For a small organization like ours with no tech support, this has been a blessing since it is so easy to use and so reasonably priced.

Pros: Ease of use, built-in reports, customer service

Cons: It takes awhile to figure out which fields to use for what but I think that would be the case for any software and depends on a lot on how you approach development

Comments: We are a small nonprofit that didn't have a large donor base and didn't have a lot of money to spend on a database. We stumbled upon LGL and it was the best choice! It is very easy to use and modify to create fields specific for your needs. No set up fee, all cloud based, you can have as many users as you'd like and it starts at $39/month. It's awesome. We are a school, so we use it to track prospective students all the way through alumnae, families, donors, etc. It does it all for us. I highly recommend this to any small organization that wants to transition away from using excel docs to track clients & donors.

Pros: It's very user friendly and is the best price you can get for donor software.

Cons: I don't really have any!

Recommendations to other buyers: I highly recommend this to any small nonprofit. It has so many great features and it's easy to run reports, create appeal letters, track email communications, etc. It also syncs with constant contact and mail chimp - so you can manage your email list too.

Comments: As an experienced database manager, primarily using the most expensive software out there on the market (and those just below the price level), nonprofits need to consider Little Green Light as their software go-to. It's easy to use - from a novice to an expert - it makes all the sense in the world nonprofits needs to build, maintain and grow their database, it's cost effective and the support is instant. LGL is the database nonprofits have needed all along... but instead struggle to make a more expensive system work while pinching pennies to do good in the world. Their trial period is all you need to fall in love and make the switch! I would recommend LGL to anyone out there looking to build their nonprofit database - or switch from their current one to a new, more robust system that costs less but is as effective as anything out there.

Pros: It's easy. I'm used to a lot of additional gimmicks and fields that only make understanding more complicated in the end. LGL does everything a big database does but is so much simpler to understand.

Cons: From a small-medium size nonprofit, I don't have any complaints! For big nonprofits that may integrate with other database systems, this system may not be that product... outside of that, this system helps nonprofits do their jobs easily!

Recommendations to other buyers: The back-end system that's been built, the nonprofit/database/systematic knowledge that's gone into this system is to be applauded. What also should be applauded is the mindset of management/developers to produce a product that benefits the greater good. We all need products that make our world a better place and LGL most certainly does that from a business model. Bravo.

Comments: I have assisted 2 nonprofits in switching to LGL. It was a huge undertaking with the first one, over 40,000 constituents and 350,000 gifts to migrate over. They helped me find a qualified consultant, and we accomplished it in a very timely manner. The end result is Fabulous! I would HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking for a flexible, all-encompassing software!

Pros: The flexibility of LGL to accommodate and streamline multiple softwares, such as volunteer software, grant software, donor software, client software, calendars, tasks, etc. LGL has been so helpful in suggesting solutions, and allowing us to eliminate several costly, single-use software products. Their support and help sections are unheard of! I have NEVER dealt with a company that is so prompt in their responses and so helpful. They have webinars and many video trainings available to do on your own time. And their cost is one-fourth of what we paid previously for our old dinosaur program. Queries and programs are very easy to use. Very modern look, totally customizable for your organization. You will be amazed at everything it is capable of.

Cons: The only thing I wish it would do is have an appeal performance report, and I believe that is in the works now.

Recommendations to other buyers: Look around at all the other software that is available. You will see that Little Green Light is an exceptional bargain for all that you get. We are currently tracking donations, volunteers, clients, and grants. Their prices are very fair for large companies with a lot of constituents, which is rare in this industry. We pay one-fourth of what we were paying previously. Our previous company's help was marginal, and they specialized in making you feel stupid when you contacted them! Not LGL. They are kind, honest and very informative. You get a free month trial with LGL, plus if you refer other companies, they reward you with credit on your account. It's a win-win situation all around.

Comments: Our public charter school is using LGL. We've had the subscription for a year but have only just begin to maximize our use of its features. Customer support has been so accessible and responsive as we've loaded our lists into the system.

Pros: The software is easy to use. Directions make sense and are not hard to follow. It feels as though it was designed by someone with a strong understanding of philanthropy and a very good sense of how to design a database that's easy for users to remember how to navigate.

Cons: I guess it would be better if it were free!

Recommendations to other buyers: I think this is a great database for a smaller development shop.

Comments: I've been a fundraiser for 25+ years, primarily with very large organizations (raising $100 million+ annually), and had an opportunity to use a range of nonprofit databases, including home-grown systems and some of the best-known products from large companies. I've been through database conversions on large scales (50+ users, 25,000+ records), and advocated for and managed budgets as a member of the management team. I chose Little Green Light (LGL) after researching options for a small nonprofit where I'm the executive director. (5000 records, 3-5 database users, $350k annual budget)

Pros: As a fundraiser, it's intuitive and has all the features I appreciate and need to support my moves management work. As the database administrator, chief data entry staffer, list- and report-creator and website integration specialist, it's intuitive with great customer service and on-line resources to allow me to meet our organization's needs. Given the opportunity, I would have selected LGL for my previous organizations. It's got all of the meaningful and useful features to support fundraising and data management needs without requiring us to pay for bells and whistles that sound great to upper management (and those who aren't on the front-lines for fundraising) but keep the majority of users from being able to take full advantage of the system.

Cons: There are a lot of great integrations, but since we don't use the bulk emailing products supported by LGL, we've had to try to create our own. We LOVE the ability to create web forms that integrate with LGL and the ease of adding them to our website, although sometimes figuring out exactly how to map the data is beyond us without a fair amount of trial and error. On the other hand, these are tasks I never would have attempted with other systems and that we're able to do without paying thousands of dollars to consultants - which is vital with our very limited budget. We've got access to big-budget possibilities and investing the time and energy generally makes them possible for us. That said, without experience working with bigger systems in the past, I'm not sure I would understand the opportunities or be able to figure out how to tap into them.

Recommendations to other buyers: I appreciate the fact that LGL has taken steps to make ancillary services affordable. For example, their partnership with ProPay to provide integrated credit card processing - and the ability to do so with a reduced transaction fee for nonprofits - has had a tremendous impact on our bottom line. Before LGL, our only options for accepting on-line gifts took 5%-15% off the top of each transaction; now we pay less than 3%, and many of our donors choose to cover the fee. (LGL's web form function makes it VERY easy to give donors that option.) I'm also grateful to have access to National Change Of Address (NCOA) processing for a very reasonable fee with a process that's straight-forward. Before LGL, our organization had never attempted NCOA and we were getting more and more returned mail with 10-year-old addresses on file. Often there'd be so much returned mail that we wouldn't have a chance to update all the addresses before sending our next mailing...meaning we were basically throwing printing and postage costs away. We paid $150 for our first NCOA and I know we earned that back immediately based on reduced printing and postage costs for the mailings that have followed.

Comments: Little Green Light is so easy to use and access and input/export data, I can't say enough good things. Compared to homegrown systems I used at universities, or Raiser's Edge and Salesforce (used at other nonprofits), LGL was so intuitive. The staff are available across time zones to help, and they have a strong grounding in nonprofit work from their own careers. I highly recommend!

Comments: I've been a Little Green Light customer for 2 years and it has helped our nonprofit more effectively and efficiently manage data and cultivate relationships with our supporters. One of our key criteria was that our Executive Director--who is way too busy and not super tech savvy--be able to use it with minimal training or time. That has turned out to be true, and makes the rest of our jobs easier too. We especially like the quick, helpful customer service. LGL has even added reasonable features on request, which really makes them stand out compared to other donor databases that won't do it or charge high fees.

Cons: there are just a handful. We knew going in that LGL doesn't support split gifts but planned to, and are a little disappointed that feature hasn't been added yet. Managing households can be a little tricky when it comes to email subscriptions and volunteer hours. And in some places (e.g. shared searches) the interface can be a little clunky.

Overall, we're extremely happy with LGL's ease of use and excellent customer service!

When we need a new report, or help with searches, layouts, etc--Nick is available to help us. Not only that, because many of our colleagues also use LGL, the system is robust and LGL is responsive to updates/changes because it's not only for our agency, changes also benefit our colleagues.

Comments: I wanted LGL since the first moment I took a look at it but our Business Manager at the time wanted to learn how to design a program in FileMaker so we went with that. It was the worst system I have ever used. When she left I immediately requested our Board to approve the use of LGL. I showed them all the great things that the system could do, how easy it was to navigate. It didn't take much persuading before they were on board.

Everytime I have needed assistance, they are right there to walk me through it or take the data that I have and download it into the system for me. I never feel lost or confused at any time.

I highly recommend LGL to anyone looking for an easy to use database with excellent customer service.

Comments: We recently started using LGL as our donor management system and so far we are very impressed. It is fairly easy to use and if we ever do need help the customer service can't be beat! They respond very quickly to any questions, even the silly ones, and have always helped with any issues.
The only negative I have discovered so far is; some times menu items don't seem to be as intuitive as I would like them to be and I spend a bit of time trying to find things. But, I am sure that will get easier the more we use the database.
For a very small non-profit private school the cost is better than anything we found elsewhere - and that certainly helps the bottom line.

LGL Rocks! No nonprofit should be without it.

Comments: I've used several different solutions for donor management systems as a nonprofit leader. So far, Little Green Light is by far my favorite.

Because it is easy to use, the navigation is intuitive, and it is designed to hold a good deal of information without feeling overwhelming-- or requiring clicking through 5 different screens to find what you need to know.

As with any cloud-based system, it is a perfect fit for our international organization with volunteers and staff across the globe to be able to access it easily -- and no additional charges for multiple users (and the ability to limit the access to certain information for different types of users).

For some of our users who are new to web-based software, Little Green Light was difficult to understand and not as intuitive. For most of them, though, the videos and guides helped a lot. When that still didn't work, they were given excellent customer service support from the company.

Comments: We upgraded to LGL from two old Filemaker databases, which were very disorganized and difficult to use. Importing into LGL was relatively painless with help from the LGL team. I appreciate that they are available to help me when I need it. You can't beat the value. We are a small organization with a relatively small database so this was the most cost-effective software for us and so far it's been a huge improvement and has made data management a lot easier. Integration with MailChimp was also easy, which is saying something since I was new both to LGL and to MailChimp!

Comments: I am new to fundraising and donor management systems, so I cannot compare it to other systems. What I can say is that it is easy to use and I can find my way around it with very little trouble. The only draw-back that I have found so far is that, although LGL offers 4 currencies, you can only select 1 currency for you account. The organisation I work for is based in South Africa and the majority of our gifts or donations are received in South African Rand, which is not an available currency on LGL. But we do also receive donations in USD, GBP and EUR. This makes logging gifts a bit complicated.

Comments: The key reasons we love LGL are what we get for the price point:
a) multiple users are included in the price so you can teach your whole team to use the database.
b) customer service is amazing. Very responsive (quick & helpful). they also listen when their customers make suggestions and we've seen a couple of new features based on customer feedback.
d) ease of use. nobody in our organization had any experience with a real database and we were able to transition to this program very easily.

I know I should mention some cons, but I'm not sure I have any. We are a young organization in terms of using a database so I don't have any real frame of reference.

Comments: Yes I am a very big fan of LGL, its very easy to use, and learn. It has many features that are essential with keeping members/donors included and aware and connected.

Best of all its intuitive and is extremely flexible easy to adapt to your organzation's needs and vocabulary.

I have not noticed any features missing from LGL, that were offered in ETap.

I was able to import our list very easily and set up many users/accounts and created templates, emails etc. Fundraising events, Capital Campaigns, Reminders, Special Events, Major Gifts, Memberships Annual Appeals etc.

Comments: Outstanding product. Little Green Light offers what we need, and doesn't clutter the product with what we don't need. It seems to be constructed around schools' development needs.

Comments: We have been very very impressed and happy with this program, the service it offers, and it's ability to enhance our donor and database management. It has allowed our organization to both expand and diversify the manner in which we conduct our fundraising. There are multiple ways that one can analyze giving patterns and involvement of individuals and groups with the organization. The recent improvement of entering in batch donations, was wonderful. When we had questions or problems (from inputting data from our old system to questions about queries, the response time and quality of help is excellent). I highly recommend this program for nonprofit donor and gift management.

Comments: The very first thing that comes to mind when I think of LGL is the wonderful customer service. Whenever I have a question or an issue it is immediately addressed and I have an answer and tech support right away. The parts of the system that are not intuitive for me and aren't menu driven are what sometimes give me problems; but these are easily overcome with a quick email. I

Comments: The Martinez Foundation is a small nonprofit. We have been using LGL for one year now and really love it. It is reasonably priced which was absoluely critical for us as a nonprofit with limited resources. The way it is set up is so intuitive, that we were up and running immediately.
We are still learning all of the many ways to use this service. We would like a few more ways to define and capture our constituents, but for the most part, we believe it is our lack on knowing how to use the database rather than actual deficiencies. I tried to give LGL 5 starts in each of the 3 categories, but this form isn't accepting my rating.

Little Green Light - the best donor relationship system for our nonprofit

Pros: Little Green Light truly earns 5 stars in all the categories above. One of the reasons we chose the product is because it is so easy to use while having all the functionality we needed. There are products out there that are 'more feature rich' but they have so many features and options that they are not cost effective to use without specialized development staff. The LGL staff has been excellent at customer support - very responsive, very personable and always helpful. The LGL team also was very willing to help with our start up and data imports so we could get up and running quickly.

Cons: It is not free. (smile)

Overall: I have worked as the Development Director for two nonprofits. At one, we used Sage Fundraising 50 and at the other we used Raiser's Edge. I felt Little Green Light had the same ease of use and features that I found in the Sage software but at a much better price for the small nonprofit I now direct (and for whom I also wear the Development hat). At this point we are just building our individual donor base and I find the ability to document our relationships and contacts with constituents very useful. I use the software more to manage, track and grow the relationship than I do for back office fundraising support (gift receipts, pledge reminders, etc.). But, when the gifts start rolling in, I can see that the functionality we will need is there.

Pros: Customer support and responsiveness if by far the best part of the LGL package.

Cons: We are still in the process of determining everything that we need to support our program and fundraising needs and everything that LGL is capable of.

Overall: As a small non-profit we were looking for something that could handle a relatively small database that was cost effective for our budget. Little Green Light has been the answer!

Pros: - Easily installed
- LGL people extremely helpful & they listen to their users
- Both data entry and getting acknowledgement letters out is now a breeze
- Easy access for all people in the organization
- High quality development software that is affordable for small organizations

Cons: - The reporting is awkward but they're working on it

Overall: I would highly recommend Little Green Light for both small and medium size organizations. The start up and installation is easy so you can be up and running in no time.

In Praise of LGL

Pros: We switched over to LGL this past August and it's been such an easy transition. The customer support is second to none, and the interface is so user-friendly.

Cons: We are still learning some of the functionality and how to maximize the system. There are plenty of reports, but some are missing - BUT, they are so responsive and always willing to listen to feedback and implement those changes. I wish there was a mobile app for LGL and I know it's in the works.

Overall: You can't beat the price, and you get a lot of bang for your buck!

Pros: Little Green Light (LGL) has too many virtues to extoll in this small a space. In truth, the best way to see what it has to offer is to jump on the site for a demo, or better yet, to get in touch with one of the two founders of this family-run business: Nick or Chris Bicknell. Given that the two brothers have brought this great product to market in tandem and that they're equally committed to building it out in a user-friendly and customer-interactive manner, it's hard to imagine a better fit for an organization looking for comprehensive donor management tools, database management and project-building. LGL is constantly evolving, adding new features on a regular basis, while it maintains its eminently user-friendly interface. In our experience here at ITA, LGL has offered us a one-stop shopping experience for all of our donor, database, communications and project management.

Cons: No cons; I'm an unabashed fan.

Overall: Little Green Light (LGL) is a powerful and extremely effective organizational tool. By offering an intuitive and user-friendly format for data management and board/staff/volunteer connectivity, LGL preserves that most precious of all resources (especially for those of us in the independent sector): time. Thanks to the LGL platform, In the Arena (ITA) is a better organized and more productive outfit, with increased time to spend on the all-important programming and outreach. Plus, the Bicknell brothers are a pleasure to work with!

Pros: LGL is very reasonably priced, yet robust in its features, The transition from our spreadsheet environment was extraordinarily easy thanks to the help of Nick at LGL. The uptime on the system is near perfect in my experience and the technical and operational support second to none. The system meets all our needs and we have not yet tapped all its capabilities

Cons: None of significance. The learning curve may be a bit steep for some unfamiliar with online systems, but the support is excellent. The reporting function continues to be improved with a litany of options for downloading information

Overall: For small non-profits like the Vermont Italian Club with under 500 constituent entries, LGL is an affordable and intelligent online alternative to databases and spreadsheets. It's priced right and meets our needs better than anticipated.

Pros: LGL is intuitive and just makes sense
The features make it extremely easy to use and many things that used to take multiple steps in our old system now only take one.
The customer support is second to none. Calls and e-mails are answered or returned often times within minutes. No question is too minor to be answered and then answered again. They often send back screen captures of which button should be clicked making it very easy to do.
The accounting of various appeals, segments, goals and individuals records make it very easy to know information at one glance.

Cons: This system cannot be used to management of a school - sending transcripts, making student IDs etc but this is NOT what the system is designed to do. (I just wish it was)

Overall: I whole heartedly recommend this software and this company. My working life has changed for the better in so many ways since using LGL. I have changed the way I do everything in the database and have real pleased in showing my colleagues how easy things are now. Our efforts have definitely stepped up. I am thankful many times a day for LGL.

visually easy
changing menu items, tags, etc is easy
customer service is exceptional
reports I have used so far are excellent
integration with Mail Chimp a plus

Cons: I haven't found any cons yet! Oh, wait, integration with QuickBooks is on the way but not complete just yet.

Overall: This really is the best fundraising software for small to mid-size organizations I've ever seen. I have been left high and dry without implementation assistance or customer support by other companies and know how frustrating that can be. THis is NOT the case with LIttle Green Light. This software is easy to use and powerful.
