Comments: I am finally manoeuvring my way around NEON I find it a but combersome particularly because we are a charity so in regards to man power we utilise volunteers who may not be technologically advanced. I feel it could be more simplistic/user friendly. As the main user I wish I could set a volunteer on data input or to modify records without my assistance.

Pros: the online forms creation is unmatched. The depth of the product is excellent and the reporting can give you what you need to get the data from the system.

Cons: The volunteer module. You can't delete applications and projects. It is the weakest part of the system.

Overall: As both a user and as a consultant, I always recommend neon for any client who needs a self-service solution. I have not seen anything in the market that compares to the ability to create an online form for registrations, donations, memberships, constituent access and use.

In addition, the modules are all there for running a nonprofit - from the store, to events, to volunteers, there is a module and the cost for all of them is not significant.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't put the burden of the implementation on the provider. Put a plan together for implementation and make sure before you buy that you go over that plan.

Comments: Neon is used to keep database for all our donations made to our company. It is a great way to keep all clients info in the system when needed at later times. It is quite easy to use basic functions.

Comments: As a nonprofit that only collects a 1.5% admin fee, we are very frugal. Neon is a very good value for the money. We use it to track membership, event registrations, interface with MailChimp for newsletters, etc. Once you become familiar with the interface it is easy to use and has many powerful features.

Pros: This is not very expensive and it has similar reporting and data management functionality as other CRM's and its cloud-based.

Cons: The website donation page is very basic and it is not customizable and it's hard to find training for the product

Overall: I use this with my client charity, This does the basic CRM similar to your RaisersEdge etc. Give you the typical boxed reports and it has website donation page integration

Recommendations to other buyers: Provide better free or paid training

Pros: It seems to have a lot of features

Cons: The features are hard to use. Customization is extremely difficult. Social fundraising is a nightmare.

Overall: We are a small charity and had never used crm before so we decided to jump in, primarily at first to register people for an event. It is not intuitive or user-friendly. There are training videos you have to watch before you can call in, but 45 minutes into them, they only answer the most basic questions. Forget customizing your forms or registration. We are not IT people who spend all day writing code so we find it difficult and sometimes impossible to use. The social fundraising has been a nightmare as people who set up a team find themselves unable to join their own team! I don't know what we're doing wrong but we find this really hard to use. We've tried our best for over a year now so feel like we gave it a good chance.

Comments: I have been very happy with program. Has done everything we wanted plus some. Only disappointment has been the lack of attention to details in the product support. Closed our first issue after addressing half the issue. Second issue took over a month to resolve.

Comments: We have used this software to store donor, member and client records since the founding of our organization 17 years ago. Over time this software has evolved and changed, but continues to be simple and efficient to use and the absolute best product for our organization.

Pros: you can do several types of record keeping all in one efficient place that you can access from anywhere, you can have several users and they can all be working within the software at the same time, the report function has been updated recently and is tremendously useful for all our data crunching needs, simple to merge duplicate records, very customization to your needs, very affordable for the massive amount of storage this keeps for our organization

Cons: for our technical abilities, the back-end and how the system links to our website can be a little confusing and not always straight-forward; there are a few quirks we have yet to figure out that customer service hasn't been able to help us with

Comments: Pros: 1) easy navigation within accounts, 2) some auto reports are very helpful
Cons: 1) every online transaction creates a new account forcing a manual de-dupe process, eats up available account space and NEON doesn't reconcile a household relationship if the transaction doesn't take place with the head of household, 2) new custom forms do not follow custom template formatting to match the web site, 3) membership purchases/renewals within an event registration don't automatically post to membership forcing a manual reconciliation.

Just like anything new, we're still in a learning curve to discover and train on the ins and outs of all Neon has to offer. Overall, we are learning and benefiting from the conversion to NEON CRM.

Comments: Our small, startup non-profit was looking for a CRM that was user-friendly, yet not very expensive. NeonCRM provided us with all the features we wanted, including Peer to Peer Fundraising Campaigns, without the huge costs associated with some of the other CRM's we researched. Comments: The Neon CRM application has been a great improvement for us at Encore Vocal Arts. We were able to take an old MS Access database and other databases with third party vendors like MailChimp, BrownPaper Tickets, and JustGive, and combine them into one powerful database tool that helps us track choir membership, our donors, and our ticket buyers. It allows us to send out regular eBlast communications and to see how many people are opening our emails and who is unsubscribing to our communications. For the money, we couldn't be happier.

If we were to change one thing, it would be to have a little more flexibility in the event registration section. It works fine for ticketing our concerts, but if we could use the word ticket instead of registration it would help our patrons better understand our process.

But as a complete tool, it really has all we need and is easy to use (I am a half time employee and run the whole thing myself with no problems). For a group our size, it is the best bang for the buck!

Neon allows us to manage all our needs in one database such as our events. donors, campaigns, etc

Comments: We started using Neon at the beginning of 2015. It was quite a learning curve for us in a small office and would have found it easier to have the option to call to ask a questions verses having to only watch webinars or pay extra for that phone support. Now that we have learned the system for the daily needs of our organization, we appreciate the updates to enhance the program.

Comments: We are a small, scientific not-for-profit company using Neon for our membership database. Neon is easy to use and frequent updates improve the experience. It can be difficult to locate email templates/notifications/areas to update forms we have on our WordPress site BUT! I was given the responsibilities after the employee responsible for updated left. That said, the customer service team is outstanding. When I open a ticket, I get a confirmation immediately. I get a solution very quickly after that. They are very patient and knowledgable.

Comments: It's been two years now since I did the tedious research required to choose our donation database software. Subscription service is the way to go and there really is no longer much of a choice. That being said, we moved from GiftWorks after they went subscription based and have not looked back.
NeonCRM was a smaller company. That may be where the magic lies. We got in on the growth. The same Vera that signs an email or invoice, answers the phone. Need a question answered? Create an incident and you will have that answer same day, sometimes within an hour. Have something you want to see in the program? Suggest it and you will see it within a few months of update roll-outs.
We have grown with NeonCRM and Neon is part of who to thank for that growth. If you are researching as I was two years ago, give them the opportunity to please you and they will not let you down.

Comments: We needed a donor database that linked to our website for online donations and event tickets. The program we were using was both expensive and extremely hard to use. Nothing about it was intuitive, few resources were available on site, and customer service was at extra cost. We moved to NeonCRM and have been extremely please. It enables someone with limited computer skills to build donor and event pages and even lets donors have limited access to manage their accounts.

Comments: NeonCRM provides all the necessary functions of a donor management system that our organization needs, while also offering additional features and modules to pursue in case of expansion. Running reports, generating mailing lists, and organizing donor information are all things Neon does well. We use the connection to Quickbooks, and while this, once set up, works decently well, it would be nice to have more detail in the way donations are synced with this accounting software.

Comments: I've used several database products in the last 15 years, so I am not new to the concept. However, I've have not used one with so much "back end user" customization capacity/requirements. This made for a bit of a learning curve. However, the webinars and knowledge base articles were very helpful. The most frustrating thing is knowing that I am not using the program to its fullest potential since I do not have a tremendous amount of time to invest. I'd probably rather just tell someone else (an expert) some of the customizations I'd like and let them do it for me.

Comments: We're a small environmental nonprofit with limited staff (4 FTE) and limited budget. We started using Neon about three years ago and it has proved a very capable, affordable solution. We use it to manage our membership files, mailing lists, credit card donations, event registration and our Birdathon (social fundraising like a walkathon). It was a HUGE improvement over our clunky old Access membership database. It also allows us to do all these things with one program, rather than separate programs for fundraising, event registration etc.

I also like that it is a cloud-based program, so if I am away from the office but need to look up a donor's email address or print out the attendance list for an event, I can do it from anywhere.

Of course there are downsides and occasional things that are a little clunky. Because it does so many things, there are instances where it won't manage a function as well as a program that is dedicated to that sole function. For instance, we would probably have more features in a social fundraising program that was ONLY social fundraising. BUT we don't have the budget or staff to manage multiple software programs and vendors ¿ plus multiple programs wouldn't be integrated like Neon is.

Our level of customer support from Neon allows us to submit help requests via email and get an email response. This took a little getting used to (there were times at the start where I just wanted to call up and get an immediate answer on the phone!). But the responses are usually very quick -- within an hour or two -- and on target. Once I got used to it, the email support system has worked fine for us.

I would definitely recommend Neon for other small or midsize nonprofits.

Comments: We chose NeonCRM because it was intuitive to learn, provided flexibility for the variety of events we host, and allowed us to build powerful reports without having to know code. In short, for our small shop, Neon has been a powerful and cost-effective choice. We use Neon not only for fundraising, but also for program delivery (class registration, conferences, mailings). Neon has an intuitive system for tracking grants and prospects. We also appreciate the easy integration of Neon with outside tools like MailChimp and EventBrite. We found Neon's price reasonable and simple to understand; integration with our website has been seamless.
One weakness for us is the lack of a social fundraising tool that we can use with our Walk4Alz event, where teams raise funds for our cause. Neon is developing this tool now and we are looking forward to kicking the tires.

Comments: The entire experience from the beginning with Neon staff (from the Sales Rep to the Account Managers, Consultants, and Tech support) has been great, they are very helpful and knowledgeable. I felt that they weren't just trying to peddle their software!
Neon tracks so much data and the all-in-one has so many modules for you to utilize. They also integrate other 3rd party software such as: Quickbooks, MailChimp, etc. that will sync with the system vs. importing. The only missing module or integration of a 3rd party software is for Auctions. But I've been informed that Neon plans to add that in the future and our non-profit is hoping that it's Charity Auction Organizer (CAO) that integrates with Neon, hint, hint!! :)
Our staff/user's have definitely utilized the training, video's, guidelines, etc. And very glad that we paid for Neon to import our data from the previous donor management system.

Comments: We got our system up and running just about three months ago and it has been wonderful. Casey Wittekind was absolutely amazing to work with and went so above and beyond for us. NeonCRM isn't the most intuitive program, but they make it really easy to find answers whether it be on forums or their training videos.

Right now, it's primarily used to track donations and donor information. I feel like we have barely scratched the surface on all the things it's capable of! I love the report feature and how easy it is to filter search criteria.

Comments: I first recommended Neon about 4 years ago as a consultant. Last year I became COO of a nonprofit and chose Neon for our own use. We are nationwide and have a very small staff so customer self-service was the big selling point. In my opinion, there is no other product on the market that was written to create online forms. Most other systems looked at the back end and then have added front-end capabilities.

Neon gives us the ability to communicate with new and existing constituents easily. The automatic acknowledgements mean that donation thank-you's are not forgotten. Also the constituent logon gives us the ability to create forms and other information for our members.

Overall, this is why we use Neon.

Comments: I work for a small, public charter school. The school had never tracked donors, incoming donations, or consistently sent thank yous. The only data that I had available to load into NeonCRM were from folders of thank you letters that had incomplete/incorrect contact information in some cases. I imported the current parents of our students this year as well as any data I could glean from the thank you letters for the previous 3 school years.

NeonCRM allowed us to more easily communicate with all of our constituents. The thank you letters are formatted to include tokens that make the letters more personal as well as contain photos and accomplishments of our student body. They are also are set up with different text and photos based on whether the donation is designated, in-kind, or unrestricted because that data is easily tracked in the software.

For the first time, KAPS participated in Giving Tuesday with an email campaign and also did an EOY appeal, neither of which had been attempted in the past. The EOY campaign brought in 30% of our donations for the year in the last two weeks of December. Several of the donors elected to become part of a new Friends of KAPS organization that is in its infancy. We were also able to send a donation summary for tax purposes this January, which had also never been done by the school. The reporting helps us target donors for specific appeals and know who has (and hasn't) given recently. We were able to get several people to sign up for recurring donations that increased our sustainability.

My current efforts are two-fold:

1) increase the use of the constituent portal, and
2) track volunteer hours using the Volunteer module so that we can report this data in grants that we are pursuing.

NeonCRM has been instrumental in taking our organization to the next level: helping us to maximize our constituents, increase our bottom line, and help us to become a professional charter school that is responsible with our constituents monetary donations. I would highly recommend NeonCRM to others looking for a constituent database.

(My only reason for giving a 4 on Ease of Use is that, being a small organization, I was not able to attend training. However, the videos and online manuals helped me determine how to use the software. The NeonCRM support staff were also very helpful if I couldn't find the answer to my question on my own.)

Comments: This is the most reasonable management system I was able to find after months of research. It has a lot of wonderful options, although it means lots of training as well. We are still in the infant stages but successfully used it to register attendees to our annual fundraiser with less hassle than previous years (which was very manual). Our next step is to do a quarterly newsletter to our database allowing us to garner more donations in the process. This also helps us save time & money from printing & mailing said newsletters. At some point we may input our members and use this feature as well. My least favorite is having to pay for live support, but the online videos/tutorials are very well done & support via email is pretty prompt.

Comments: Our organization is on the smaller side. We are only entering our 6th year and our overall budget is still under $100K. But we would never have a chance of getting there without a software solution like this. NeonCRM allows us to use the parts we need now, and then will allow us to grow into our needs down the road, without having to hop systems all over again. It was relatively easy for us to set up the parts we needed ourselves. We are now 5 months in and already seeing the benefits of using the management system.

Comments: I personally reviewed and read reviews of many many CRM's to find what would work for our non-profit, for donor relationship management, events and volunteer management. It was an exhausting search and was narrowed down to three companies. Those three companies did a live demo for our Executive, Administrative and Donor Relations Directors. Even though Neon was up against stiff competition Neon CRM was the unanimous choice by everyone. The cost of setup, monthly cost, the ease of import, the upfront help to get you going and all the training material online and live sessions each month made the process so much less stressful. Since implementation I have asked questions of the support team several times and they are so very helpful, quick to respond and quick to resolve your issue or let you know if it was going to be delayed. We have saved several thousand dollars a year switching to Neon which allows us to put those funds toward our programs. The canned reports are wonderful and allow you to configure them if they are not just the way you want. The monthly updates to make the system and reports better is another reason to choose Neon, they seem to be on top of making the CRM better and better each month. We are new to doing paid events and the set up, and online registration forms were easy to set up and start using. A huge plus for me as the bookkeeper is the online donations and all the demographics are automatically posted to Neon which helps streamline my process. The bottom line is the user friendliness, ease of setup and cost lead us to Neon and we have not regretted the decision. From the software we were using that was so user unfriendly Neon has been such a wonderful change because I can come up with the data that is needed to build our relationships with our donors and that keeps everyone happy.

Comments: NeonCRM was the perfect solution for our growing but still small nonprofit membership association. Life before Neon was complicated - managing our communications in one database, our donors in another while also throwing our members in with our donors! We spent over a year researching software solutions and even signed on with a different company before realizing they weren't delivering on their promises. It wasn't until I read a resource put together by Idealware that rated Neon as a top solution for nonprofits - and the rest is history. What we value most about NeonCRM is that it combines processes for donor management, membership functionality, and mass communications all in one place. So now sending an email to our donors and members, or to some smaller segment of people based on a complex set of criteria, is just a few clicks away. Neon is still evolving, and we still encounter some hiccups, but I am always looking forward to the next software advancements which come out with regularity, so I trust that they are doing all in their power to serve us, and serve us well.

Comments: With increased proficiency and knowledge of the inner-workings and capacity of Neon, it has over time served us much more effectively. That said, the early years (2011...) were rough and use of the tool not maximized. We've also struggled with the "face" of the donate page and while we're paying the $300 to have it customized, I think that has been one of the biggest downsides. It is imperative that the donor experience be seamless and remembered for ease, not hassle and initially we got lots of negative feedback from donors about Neon's donate page design. But, that's fixed. We're enjoying new functionality!

Comments: NeonCRM has great customer service. Their team also responds quickly to emails or phone calls. It also is very easy to use. My staff immediately felt comfortable in NeonCRM and are able to more efficiently run our non-profit with the help of NeonCRM. NeonCRM allows us to provide accurate reporting to our board, donors, and the public. My organization uses NeonCRM to track all donor-related information and for mass communication, tracking grant progress, distributing newsletters, and reports. The price is also very reasonable.

Comments: I think NEON CRM is a great tool for your fundraising and communications needs.

Pros: There are a lot of great features that we probably don't exhaust to their fullest extent. From a fundraising standpoint, our data is much cleaner and our reports are more accurate to our books. We're able to track grant history and even external email communications to different constituents. NEON can integrate with many different platforms, i.e. One Click Politics, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, which is pretty useful to capturing all that data. The custom fields in NEON have been particularly helpful in our segmentation.

Cons: There is a bit of a learning curve. Some of the processes might not feel very intuitive, but they have a great support/resource center and their customer support has been very responsive. Some of the pages, i.e. custom petitions, are not the best-looking, but they are completely functional. You can't really report yet on custom forms, but NEON is always adding new features.

Neon also offers benefit of event ticketing and does not charge additional fees on transactions. It took a lot of time to set up, but in the end Neon's expertise was extremely valuable and the return on investment was palpable.

Comments: After about a year of use, I'm amazed at how many things I've learned how to do. Neon has been easier for me to learn to use than other databases I've tried. The guides are helpful--once I find the section I need. There is a lot of information in those guides. Sometimes too much. The support team is my lifeline. Every single person I've encountered has been patient, helpful, & knowledgeable. The support service really sets Neon above the rest.

Comments: We are incredibly happy with Neon for our donor database. Especially in the last year or so, Neon has really upped it's game with regular updates to capabilities and user experience. We can do practically anything we want with Neon to better track our communications, donor interests, volunteer history and much more. Then the reporting feature makes it so simple to pull spreadsheets of this data for mailing lists, graphs, and more. Anytime something has come up with Neon, they have been immediately responsive with live chat, email or phone, and even in the occasional scenarios where they don't have the solution we need, I have noticed I often see it in an update a few months down the road. They make donor-centricity very easy.

Comments: When I began as Executive Director at our small non-profit, we evaluated various options before choosing Neon CRM. Coming from my previous position in an environment with more extensive CRM systems, I was impressed with Neon¿s range of capabilities.

As can be expected from such a robust CRM, the learning curve is not trivial. However, Neon's excellent tutorials and ever-present support staff have allowed us to be up and running in far less time that I had thought possible. Without spending thousands of dollars on a fully customized CRM, I had feared that it would be difficult to conduct our business as we were used to doing. Yet, I was happy to realize that we needed to adjust our procedures only a little in adapting to Neon's functioning and, in the process, discovered advantages and opportunities for efficiency. In particular, we have been able to leverage Neon's power to increase our communication to our constituents and to significantly grow our donation base.

What makes Neon truly stand out, in my opinion, is their support. As a former software designer who had supported computer systems in the past, I am amazed at how EVERY assistance request to Neon, from trying to understand how to accomplish our daily tasks to advanced custom issues, was answered, thoroughly and expeditiously.

Comments: Almost 4 years ago, when I considered which contact/donor relations management software platforms I was going to use for the ministry, here are a few of the things I was looking for: 1. Expandability (Will the system grow with us as we need it to without paying for what we don't need?) 2. e-Commerce - Are the e-commerce functions user friendly? Are they secure? Does it have integrated merchant service capabilities and can it seamlessly integrate with the database/account management capabilities? 3. Can I easily segregate, query, and manage contacts/donors? Can I track all of our touches with our contacts/donors and view them in one place/interface? 4. Do the front-end functionality components make it easy for our contacts/supporters/donors/etc. to communicate and do business with us? 5. Can we easily integrate our CRM communication/outreach/events/etc. into our existing website, social media, and vice versa? I was pumped when I got a "Yes" answer to all of the questions above from the team at Z2 Systems about the NeonCRM.
I have extensive experience with some of the larger CRM providers and their products. I can say that without a doubt, the NeonCRM system is as functional, robust, expandable, and overall as capable, right out of the box, as systems costing 10 to 20 times as much. Clients are not hit with additional charges for modules that should already be included in the overall package. With regards to customer service and the company's employees and management actually listening to the customer and making adjustments to the system in order to meet the needs of the customer, Z2 Systems blows everyone else away. Coupled with its available seamless and cost-effective merchant services account integration partners, NeonCRM is a great option for any size organization and budget.

Comments: I've been using Neon Z2 Systems for over 3 years now and I'm impressed with how dependable and reliable the data has been. It is also very easy to customize and set up based on the individual organizations' needs. Report writing gets you exactly the data you need.

But the best part of Neon Z2 has been their staff, whether it was training, or technical support, or management, they have always been timely, helpful, and friendly. They go out of their way to make sure you understand what it is you need to know to perform a certain task or understand how it works. Kudos to Neon.

I especially appreciated their patience while I learned this software in the beginning. Unfortunately, when I took over for our organization, no one had been fully trained on the system. With their tech support, training and other learning tools, I was able to learn quickly and provide a lot more information to our management and board.

Thank you, Z2 Systems. I would recommend Z2 as an affordable and customizable solution for non profits.

Great customer support. This makes a huge difference for all clients, but especially those who are not IT experts (or have one on staff).

Grows with your organization. There are tons of functions with Neon and we don't use all of them....but as we grow and expand our needs will, too. It is good to have a system that you know you won't outgrow in a few years.

Cons
Fundraising built-in reports are more limited than some other systems.

Pros: I won't comment on the other features NEON does that other systems do as well - or almost as well. Instead, I'll focus on the factors that set them apart from the other players on the market.

FORMS! - how can any org look past the ability to survey their constituents via email and then have the responses post to the database? e.g. How did you hear about us? a - k / What most interests you about our work? a.b.c. d. free form response / How would you like us to communicate with you? a - d

Events! NEON is the industry leader in allowing users to enter info via an org's website and into the database. I have one client using NEON that registers athletic event users via their website - all the way down to the waiver release form via a digital signature. All that info results in a paperless process that posts to their website on the back end.

Training - online video training is FREE - you won't get that with eTapestry or DonorPerfect.

Cons: The reports function features a URL for a particular report (dynamic too). This is is fantastic! But many board members and volunteers need to be reminded to access the url and it would be great if NEON would schedule the delivery of reports on an ongoing basis rather than the user having to schedule the delivery of the reports. A small thing, but one less thing the user has to think about doing.

Overall: You want CRM software to do 3 things:
1. Safely store you data
2. Allow you to leverage your data
3. Allow you to interact with your organizations website

Most systems do the first 2 - they better (!), NEON does the third one too and better than any other product in the industry. My only hope is they don't get bought by Blackbaud.

I've done 15 or more conversions with many different product and have never been happier than with NEON. Feel free to drop me a line and I'll share more with you.

As for the ability to email reports out to board members, you can set up an account in NEON, create a recurring activity to have NEON email your board member with the dynamic report link on, for example, the first of the month every month. And as for the comment about the BBaud buyout, no chance. :) We're in this for the long haul to create the best cloud based CRM for nonprofits and to ensure we offer it for less. Plus, NEON is built as an All-in-One platform that can house fundraising/donors, membership/members, events/registrants and track all of this in one system. Plus, our frontend connectivity to nonprofit's websites allows everything to funnel right into NEON automatically. Times are changing and there is no longer a need to spend so much for powerful software and IT staff to manage servers. NEON, by Z2 systems, Inc., is here to stay and evolve with the technology needs of the Nonprofit industry. Count on it!

Pros: We are in the process of reviewing software for online fundraising including donations and events. So far, NEON is our #1 choice based on integrated features, price and customer service. They offer everything that we want and more in one platform which is key. They are willing to work with us to customize forms for an event. From one demo, it appears that NEON has a fairly easy learning curve which is important because we need to have the system up and running very soon. I look forward to having this critical fundraising tool at OLPH school.

Cons: The one con that I had, security rights, is being addressed in the very near future.

Overall: NEON might be a 'newcomer' to the marketplace of fundraising software, but it clearly is a solid player and will be a strong contender for new customers in the competitive fundraising software arena.
