Pros: I really like the billing interface. It makes it easy for clients to get the bills and to pay them. It also makes it easy for clients to see exactly what I'm doing which I think my clients appreciate.

Cons: I greatly dislike the Reports tab in general. There are so many options, but they are obtuse in what they provide, at least to me. For someone who is not sophisticated or experienced on this side of running a business, I find it exceptionally difficult to navigate this area and printout the information I need without having to try multiple options.

Pros: Everything, I love it all, it is convenient, I love the ability to save receipts in each client's file, helps keep me organized and helps me make sure to bill for the expenses.

Cons: I don't like the expense snippets. This should be the same as the activities. The creation of documents should be easier. It is too hard to do.

Overall: I am able to bill timely, I can keep track of all expenses so I am getting paid back, I am able to bill as I go so that I am not forgetting to bill for what I had done for the day. I used to forget to write things down. This is no longer an issue. I like having the ability to do email and everything through Clio. I love the access where ever I am at.

I've been a customer for years. I haven't begun to scratch the surface.

Pros: I know it can do so much. I know it has the funding and expertise behind it to make it among the best, if not the best, depending upon one's needs and wants.

Cons: Not really Clio's fault, but the time it takes to get up to speed with Clio so that I can take advantage of its features and power.

Overall: It does what I need, and a lot of things I don't even know I need or want.

Pros: Clio has driven my firm to more efficiency which increased our capacity to take on more cases, grow revenues and expand our brand. Having all of our contacts, matters and important case documents and information in the palm of your hand promotes organization and communication because the information is stored in Clio and easy to access and share.

Cons: The accounting system is still developing. Invoicing clients is amazing, and so are the Clio payments feature and accounts receivable reports. But it's not yet possible to track firm expenses, only matter expenses.

Overall: Contact, Matter and Document creation, and organization in a mobile friendly and intuitive software that promotes growth with increased capacity created with efficiency and greater communication with clients because information is readily available and easy to share.

Pros: Easy billing, revenue tracking and secure document management. I also like that I see my firm's financial performance when I login. It's a great motivator.

Cons: Not really designed for flat fee matters - the billing can get a little clunky if you are a flat fee firm like myself.

I wish Clio docs integrated with Google Drive, e.g. if someone uploads something to Clio it shows up in my Google Drive.

It's also silly that there is no notification when a client uploads documents. That seems like a basic feature.

Overall: Easy billing

Pros: Easy access on the go and accessibility to documents for each client (allows an electronic database to reduce size of the physical file).

Cons: Financial metrics do not include enough options (for example, my practice does not focus on the billable hour but flat fees and the features do not accurately reflect my billed revenues vs. received revenues).

My firm uses Clio and we find it to be an improvement over other lit mgt programs.

Pros: The dashboard tracking of the firm metrics, which helps us to monitor our billing progress on a daily basis.

Cons: The bills menu and sub menus as they relate to past due bill management, and the inability to separate out current bills from past due bills in an easy manner.

Overall: Increased billing through managed time keeping using the dashboard firm metrics, and an easier-to-customize invoice layout.

Pros: the layout of our practice and the organization it provides for our clients who have multiple matters going on at the same time. This makes it easier for keeping track of time on each individual matter.

Pros: Timekeeping and integration with billing is very handy. The ability to track revenue is also helpful. I would like a pie chart on "page 1" showing collections vs. billings (i.e., realization rate).

Cons: There have been some hiccups with Xero integration. I tried Clio Payments but found it a bit unwieldy, especially creating a good looking logo (akin to DraperLaw) so I abandoned it. I may try again. I use LawPay, but separately (i.e., emailing a link to the client). I wish Clio was a little less expensive as a solo.

Pros: Ease of use, Organization, Search instantly, Cost, Chrome extension to add docs, Task features, and ability to merge with existing calendar.

Cons: Reporting features - inconsistencies with document sharing and Clio unique email that is used in messages. Wish I could customize my own dashboard, as we use Clio is such a way that is so outside of your traditional user.

Overall: We were shopping around for a new matter management program, and ended up going with Clio. It saved us initially, and now continues to save us about more than that a year. It is so easy to train new employees, and all of our info is all in one place and easily accessible.

Pros: It keeps track of my operating and trust accounts, which saves me time and money. If I had to hire a bookkeeper, I'd incur mush higher expenses.

Cons: Parts of it are complicated and difficult to learn. I've taken several webinars, but they often move too quickly and don't allow me to practice using portions of the information.

Overall: I save time and money. I don't have to create and store paper files! I font have to hire a bookkeeper. My staff saves times as well.

Pros: There are so many functions to Clio. So much help and support to get help on how to use Clio. It really makes the firm more efficient.

Cons: I wish I had the time to learn and benefit from all my that Clio can truly do. I don't like that the budget is not too flexible. If more funds are added, it doesn't recalculate. You have to manually recalculate.

Overall: Ease of use, so many functions to help run the form. Help when neede.

Pros: - Easy to use and learn
- Easy to show others to use
- Really easy billing features
- Great organization
- The Notes feature is fantastic and replaces any need for docketing and memos to file
- The "add time" feature makes it easy to keep track of billings and what's to go on the next invoice
- The linking of contacts to files is a time saver
- The Calendar is easy to use and does what you need it to
- The accounting that exists is great for keeping track of the movement of money directly connected with a file. It has helped keep my trust accounting immaculate. IT also helps me keep track of expenses associated with each file.

Cons: Clio is fantastic and the best solution I've been able to find, and I've done a lot of searching both before and after buying Clio. That said, Clio seems half finished in some areas and I'm hoping more work will come.

- The accounting is adequate, but should go a lot further than it does. I would love an integrated cheque writing program, for example.

- I don't know why you can't have more than one client per file. It's a small thing, but it bugs me. I put additional clients in the "contact" list associated with the file, and just pick one as a primary client to list. It doesn't matter, but again, it's a weird oversight.

- The firm metrics is a great idea, but it seems half finished. I don't know why, but it doesn't save stuff year to year and just dumps the information. There's also a dramatic lack of ability to customize things. This is frequent in some of Clio's features, such as how to list matters or client names. It's not a deal breaker, but it's a weird thing to not make more usable.

Overall, Clio is a fantastic program and I don't know how I'd run my practice without it. It's a lot better than everything else I've tried. I just wish the damn thing integrated with more programs and capabilities, and that they just expanded on it. I think the reason why it's frustrating is because it's so close to being sort of perfect, and they just don't go far enough. Hopefully they'll keep adding to it and raise it to that level!

It's definitely worth the buy.

Overall: It's a major time saver. It's great for billing, keeping tabs of your time, costs associated with a file, trust money for each file, docketing, contact lists, and all the rest.

It feels a bit short/incomplete in some areas, but they keep improving it so hopefully that will happen soon.

It's still the best damn law practice software out there, and I've searched high and low!

Pros: Cloud accessibility, excellent time tracking functionality and let's me track several different ways and in many different places. Makes it much easier to track what I've done throughout the day and add time to it. The app, while it struggles sometimes, has been very useful and will continue to be useful. I can log time from the day with a three year old in my lap at home.

Cons: The accounting aspect of it / integration is sometimes wonky. It would be very helpful to have drag-and-drop storage organization, i.e. a simpler UI for organizing files in matters that are already in Clio.

Does not fit very well for creditor's rights practice.

Bill customization is nice, though not a particularly easy UI to get used to.

Would really like a native Office 365 email integration that doesn't involve third party software that is of questionable reliability / usefulness - something akin to the gmail integration would be awesome.

Overall: Flexibility in work location, good cloud storage capability in a way that organizes / sorts nicely with matters and clients. Billing is relatively easy.

Pros: Having a cloud based system is not only convenient but efficient. I can use Macs or PCs, and I can use a tablet or phone app while I'm on the go (which is most of the time). I also like having a client portal through which my clients and I can securely communicate/share documents.

Cons: I've experienced a couple of minor glitches so far. I kept seeing an inbox alert for Clio Connect, even when I read all of my messages. Also, when my clients uploaded documents, I couldn't view them through their matter, which was confusing. Instead, I had to go to the main menu ribbon, look under docs, find the client's folder, and finally managed to locate the "missing" documents (also would be helpful to get a notification of documents being sent there when clients upload them).

Overall: Place to store client info, communicate securely, do billing/process payment, automate certain documents.

Pros: Clio is very user-friendly with a broad range of features. I originally purchased Clio to assist me with capturing time and generating bills - it is worth it for this feature alone. I appreciate that it keeps all of my case information in one place.

Cons: There are a few options I wish I had (like the ability to enter time as "no charge" before I do the final bill; this would save me time and make the dashboard infinitely more useful to me).

Pros: Clio's integration with LawPay is fantastic and an absolute game-changer for a small practice. The fact that a Clio subscription covers the LawPay monthly service fees make it a no-brainer for any attorney thinking about taking online credit card payments. Clio makes time-keeping, billing, and receiving payment so seamless that the payment features alone are worth the price. What used to be a weekend spent reviewing bills and sending individual emails is now a half hour of a few clicks.

Cons: There are a few usability issues that you have to learn to live with. Certain tasks, like creating a document from a template, require you to manually refresh the page with your browser. Once in a great while, you'll notice some performance issues as the Clio team is wrestling with some server issue. While the web interface makes installation and maintenance non-issues, there are also usability limitations that a browser-based application has compared to a rich client experience.

Overall: Better organization, document automation, easy billing and faster payments

Pros: The user interface is intuitive and easy to use. You feel like everything is at your fingertips. This is particularly true if you use the customs matter and client fields to record data you want to have easy access to.

As well, Clio's customer support is great and the software is always improving.

Cons: Accounting and bookkeeping needs cannot be fully satisfied by Clio alone. I use Xero in conjunction with Clio and this combination works well, though the export of data from Clio to Xero is not seamless, particularly with respect to trust accounting. That being said, this solution is workable and can be fully compliant with Law Society of Upper Canada bookkeeping requirements. I have been through a spot audit and a full practice review and passed with flying colours.

The other main issue I have is that there is nothing in place to warn the user that there is no future court date diarized for a matter that is making its way through the courts. Without this check and balance, there is a risk of missing a court date if you forgot to put a new one in after the last one. The only way to make sure this isn't happening is to manually go through each open matter and confirm that it has a future court date input.

Couldnt ask for better?

Pros: Packed with features. There is just so much that can be done with this software that a firm might not have thought to do with some of the older software platforms. Everything is secure and designed from a legal professional's viewpoint. Every person in our firm can handle a case from start to finish without leaving the Clio platform -- anywhere, anytime.

Also, the customer service should not be overlooked. When we were researching various platforms to take over for Time Matters (Practice Panther, Rocket Matter, MyCase, etc.) Clio was the only company that had a knowledgable onboarding professional at the ready. They were incredibly flexible with letting us extend our demo phase and spent many hours running through different functions with us. They even held a full-scale training session with our entire staff BEFORE we had signed up. Even after we purchased Clio, they continued to hold our hand through the entire implementation process. That sort of service made our transition into the cloud seamless and allowed us to really take advantage of cost-savings that we were aiming for.

Cons: The only issue that we've had so far is personalizing the goals on the dashboard page. It would be nice to have a more granular and specific revenue analysis for each attorney. Granted, we are still implementing other more important features firm-wide, so this hasn't been the highest priority, and it's more of a luxury anyway.

Overall: All the information you need at your fingertips, anywhere in the world. Hassle-free and comprehensive customer service.

Pros: I like that the software is completely cloud-based and is constantly looking for ways to improve. I like the many integrations and hope they continue to add more!

Cons: Our office hates the upload and download functionality. At some point, we are expecting it to cause a huge problem. Pros: The best feature is that it is accessible from anywhere. I like that it is easy to just dive in and use. If I don't know how to do something, I can ask the question or find a webinar on the topic.

Cons: My least favorite are the invoices. I like that I can select what I want to show, but there is not an option for payments from the month to show on the new invoice. Payments will only show on the invoice that the payment was applied to. As a firm, we do not go back and print old invoices so this feature is useless. Our clients want their payments to show they were made even for an older invoice on their new invoice.

Pros: Ease of use, accessibility, reliability and functionality.

Cons: Accounting

Overall: I signed up for CLIO back in 2011. I had recently left an in-house counsel job where I had over 17 years of transactional experience and entering into private practice. I had no clue of practice management software, but needed the best value and an intuitively easy system to grasp, as I had to also balance learning about the "practice" of law. CLIO was so easy to use and build upon. Additionally, through the years, CLIO partnered with many other providers that CLIO serves as the foundation for my practice and the integration of other services makes CLIO undeniably an innovator. I can literally practice with true Mobility and my clients have been able to easily rely on accessing CLIO for document review, payments into trusts or operating accounts. Tracking time, research and phone calls have also become seamless. I count on CLIO as the total practice management tool. Trust accounting ledgers are easy to create by just a few clicks of the mouse. CLIO truly gives lawyers and legal staff freedom to perform client related services from their tablet and smartphone. It has enhanced my staff's performance and permitted me to implement tele work benefits as a result. I am more than happy to talk to anyone who has an interest in implementing a reliable, functional tool such as CLIO to regain or maintain control of their practice.

Pros: Scheduling and Billing

Cons: Price per user

Overall: Clio has been a great add on for our firm for the last several years. We are relying on it more and more each month. I usually have Clio pulled up in 3 distinct windows at a time to facilitate instant navigation. As it updates upon refresh, and instantly within its window, it has been a great way to multitask across client issues such as scheduling, time entries and specific tasks. We primarily use Clio as a task manager and billing, but there are many other functions that we have not utilized, but are looking forward to. We will be sticking with Clio.

Comments: Our firm just started using the software, but already my days have shortened from all the integrations. I've also found a ton of time that I didn't know I wasn't billing! The platform is not the most intuitive to use at this point, but the customer service is SUPER responsive, has workarounds, and is great at submitting (and delivering on) feature requests. Looking forward to what this program will become.

Pros: SaaS platform, integrations with useful software like Box.com and NextChapter (bankruptcy service), comprehensive workflow features

Cons: Detailed expense accounting is cumbersome, joint representation is not natively supported

Overall: I've been using Clio since 2011 to help me run my solo practice. I use it primarily for calendaring , time tracking, and billing. Those features are fantastic. Almost all of my billable time is calendared, and Clio lets me add time right to those events and assign it to a matter right from the calendar. I cut my administrative time to bill clients by 40% the first time I used Clio, and it's now down roughly 90%.

I love that Clio lets me use third-party software with it rather than forcing users to rely on less convenient built-in solutions. For instance, Clio creates a folder for each client and matter for me in Box.com where I can work on my clients' documents using the rich feature set of Box. Clio Documents is okay for sharing with Clients, but there's no way they could replicate Box.

There are two things I really wish Clio would improve. First is the ability to natively support joint representation. I do some consumer bankruptcy work, and many of my cases are joint petitions. The Clio solution is to add one of the joint parties as a 'related party'. Strictly speaking, this is not a related party, but my actual client. I can note the relationship type, so it works okay for conflict checks, but I'd rather the software reflect the real legal relationship.

The other has to do with transaction tracking and integration with bookkeeping software. Maybe I just need to learn how to do this better, but I end up doing double work in Clio and Quickbooks for expenses and trust accounting. Bills and payments integrate, but the details, which are important for accounting disclosures, are manual in Clio.

All in all, Clio continues to be the best option for me. I'm very mobile, so a SaaS/Cloud solution is absolutely required. The features were very basic when I started using it, but the folks at Clio are constantly releasing new functionality, improving existing functionality, and integrating new useful apps. Oh yeah, I'm a bit of a tech geek, so having access to an open API is extremely tempting to me. I've done one integration with Zapier, and I have some ideas for other things I might do directly with the API.

Highly recommended.

Recommendations to other buyers: Spend the time to think about your workflows and how you can best leverage the software to make your life easier. Clio has a lot of training resources on line that can get fairly in depth on ways to make things better.

Pros: The Support Team is the best. I love that I can use it for keeping track of clients, matters, notes, and billing all in one place. I also like all of the reports that I can run off for our CPA.

Cons: The "back" button on some of the tabs, especially under Bills doesn't take you back only one screen. I also wish that CLIO had a true accounting feature.

Overall: What I like most about CLIO is that it is constantly evolving and getting better. Every time I have run into an issue, whether it's something that I just don't know how to do, or an issue that I think needs fixing or something that I think needs to be added to make the program be even better, the CLIO support team has always been right there, ready & willing to help. They are the friendliest team ever and are super quick to respond to issues and they even let me know that sometimes my ideas are shared by other customers and have been added to the list of things to be discussed by the team to hopefully be added to CLIO in the near future. At first CLIO seemed overwhelming, but after 3.5 years, me and my boss are still coming across features that are new to us all the time. I tell everyone about CLIO, especially other local attorneys.

Recommendations to other buyers: practice making contacts, bills, matters, etc. and don't be afraid to call for support.

Pros: Ease of use - even non-tech savvy individuals pick it up quickly.

Cons: I wish it had full accounting capabilities.

Overall: When one is a solo practitioner, there never seems to be enough time in the day to both practice law and manage the day-to-day operations of the business. In addition to the role of lawyer, I also wear the hats of accountant, human resources manager, marketing professional, IT manager, and the go-to person in charge of handling all problems. Clio makes my job(s) much easier by ensuring that I've got practice management covered. Initially moving to the cloud with Clio was much easier than expected, and any questions I had were quickly and efficiently answered by Clio's excellent customer support department. I love learning on my own time, at my own pace, and Clio has a plethora of on-demand training webinars for beginning users which enabled me to quickly get up to speed. The data entry process for both financial transactions and time/cost entries is simple and quick, and there is a wide range of reporting options available to the user. I love having the ability to add extra functionality by integrating with other service applications made available by Clio partners ¿ think Dropbox and Fastcase. Further, Clio's mobile app fits in perfectly with my busy lifestyle! If you are deciding on a practice management solution for your law firm, make sure to give Clio a trial run so you can experience its many advantages for yourself.

Pros: Ease of use. Calendar and task list functions. Time keeping and billing functions.

Cons: I have not yet found a function that I find to be problematic.

Overall: I have done extensive research on the law practice management platforms on the market as I teach Law Practice Management and Technology at a local law school. I actually use Clio as a platform through which I teach my class as it is the best example of a comprehensive law practice management tool available. My students in class, and the attorneys at my firm, find the software easy to use and broad in its application. I strongly recommend any attorney look at this option before making a decision on their law practice management solution.

Recommendations to other buyers: It does get expensive as my firm expands. Perhaps a package option for a guaranteed number of subscribers?

Cons: Allows negative transaction when there are not enough funds on account. Not suitable to track general account

Comments: Clio is a joy to use relative to most legal software. None of our attorneys have any difficulty recording time, or using it as a depository for case information. Pros: The features that are offered by Clio are second to none. The system is easy to use. The interface is nicely designed. They offer mobile applications, which I use frequently. Can handle firms of any size.

Cons: I would like to see Clio offer more reporting options. Clio doesn't have an attorney-centric view. It would be nice to have Clio "lock in" on the fact that I always want to see reports, bills, etc. for only my matters. I don't ever need to see matters, reports, bills, etc. that don't belong to me.

Overall: My firm has been using Clio for just under 4 years. I have watched Clio grow a great deal in that amount of time. I am very pleased that Clio has regularly updated its service and added new features. Although the changeover was a challenge (what software migration isn't?), everyone in my firm now uses Clio quite happily. Of course, there are always things that I would like to see improved, but I have no major gripes. Reporting options could be more robust. It would be nice to see some sort of feature that would help to avoid duplication of contacts (a common problem for us). It is also disappointing that Clio chose to tier its services such that we no longer have access to all of the features. We would have to pay more to get access to all of the features, which we have deemed not worth the investment at this time. I can't say enough good things about their customer support. They have always been quick to answer and are ready to help us with any problems we have had. Fortunately, once we got everything converted over, the issues or questions we have had since then have been few and far between. In my opinion, Clio should be on everyone's short list for a web-based practice management system!

Recommendations to other buyers: Prior to going to law school, I spent 13 years in Information Technology. I started doing software development 35 years ago. I know what it takes to build a robust well-designed system. I spent a lot of time evaluating products before settling on Clio. I have never regretted my decision!

Pros: Easy to use and you can use it from anywhere you have an internet connection.

Cons: I cannot reconcile my own accounts because I could not figure out how to export everything into Quickbooks and make it work.

Overall: We went from PCLaw to Clio because our office was growing and we wanted a cloud-based software program. We wanted to be able to work from anywhere we had internet access. Clio has met all of our needs except one. I really liked being able to balance my operating and trust accounts in PCLaw. Clio does not provide for reconciliation. It is compatible with other accounting software like Quickbooks, but I found it difficult to do the exporting and have everything match up with invoicing being done in Clio not in Quickbooks. I ended up turning over my accounting side of things to my accountant. They match up my bank statements with my account activity in Clio and let me know if anything got posted wrong in Clio. I am sure, however, that those who are more computer savvy than I would be able to make it work.

Pros: It's online.
The timer can be stopped and started easily.

Cons: I spend about two (2) hours a day implementing workarounds to make the system work because it was not built for family law practice or file review. It's a good backup system but it's nothing very reliable unless you're willing to invest the time into making it work.

Overall: If you're not used to a system, this can be made into a good system for you. There are a lot of functions missing--like being able to track time associated with flat fee activities (so you can't track productivity or if you do, you can't print out your billable hours without some discussion to the ethics board). You can track e-mails and phone calls, but not faxes, letters, or text messages. You can set tasks for others that you can update, but the update doesn't get sent to the other person. You can set pop-ups on your calendar for yourself, but not for other people. You can track the budget of a case, but not the running total of transactions or expenses. You can integrate with Quickbooks, but you have to import and export the information--the information does not flow freely between the two. The calendar has all of the same pitfalls as Google Calendar because it is Google calendar but with some functions missing. You can upload and download documents, and you must do that in order to save any changes with Clio (unless you pay for HIPAA-compliant Google Drive Professional). Your receptionist has to separately capture phone messages from your client to you because only you can have conversations. Wandering between the conversations page and the logs page means that you will always end up back in the Matters tab. If you're trying to capture a phone call with a person not in the system you have to exit the phone call and lose all of the information to enter that person before you can save the conversation to a file. It's not customizeable. There are some pros over Amicus but many features I miss (such as being able to track time directly with the phone call, including the time the call was initiated) but it has good parts about it. If you're into nitty-gritty capturing of information and you have the time to invest it can be a good platform but trying to teach established attorneys how to rework their legal practice around it is difficult.

Recommendations to other buyers: Think about how you use your legal practice--if you couldn't go online today, this is not going to make you online tomorrow. You have to completely rework how you do things because of the amount of upload/download, import/export time that you do. This is NOT an all-in-one system and it CANNOT all be done online at this time. The next updates were pushed back until September so I don't know what will be resolved between now and then.

Comments: I came into our firm as they were converting to CLIO. I was new to time and billing systems and I was up and running on the system with no training in no time at all - I admit there were are few dozen calls to support which were always handled quickly and efficiently by people who know their product and have a genuine desire to help you be successful with CLIO. It is intuitive and easy to use. It lacks some functionality that would make the accounting processes and reporting much better. They have a system of adding feature requests and then when customers call in and request the same feature, their "vote" is added to the existing request - so more votes, more attention. I absolutely love working with their support team. They are the best support team that I have ever worked with in my ____ many years in the working world!

Pros: Web based program and cost.

Cons: Rigid, time consuming process. So many things don't work and the process of finding a work around is cumbersome.

Overall: I have been using this since 2012 - at first it fit my needs and was marketed for the solo/small practice firms. It has increasingly become more cumbersome and takes longer to calendar and bill than I would like. The interest feature on the billing can only calculate simple interest. Once you enter the interest formula, there is no way to disconnect it so you are left to manually delete all of the entries. They have changed the billing process from a process that once took about an hour to taking about 3 hours. A bill is generated and placed under the Draft tab, you can view it, edit it, submit it for approval (a waste of time for a solo), or approve it - so I view it, see it needs to be edited, and click on edit, the bill comes up for editing, then once you've completed it, you hit Approve - and nothing happens which is new - you either can hit the go to bills Awaiting Payment link, or click on the Awaiting payment screen -- from there, you are forced to sort through all of your accounts receivable to find your newly edited bill. Once you find the bill, then you can Receive Payment from the trust account - but be careful since if your client has $500 in trust and the bill is $1000, the trust payment will pop up $1000, which you know is inaccurate, so you have to do another edit. Then the bill drops out of view and you either have to return to Awaiting Payment or Paid tabs - search through all of the other bills, find your bill, then you can download it - print it, or save it, and then email it.
If you want to enter a new appointment, you can do so on the calendar, but if you want to create a method to track the new client, you have to go to another tab to set up a matter, you can only input the client's name, not the address, not the phone number, not any other stuff that should appear at this point, in my opinion. Then you add in your number. Then you have to track down the name you just entered and try and add in addresses, phone numbers, email addresses. The process is incredibly time consuming.

Pros: Cost
Cons: Overly rigid, designed for those who have a data processor employee, time consuming, not customer service oriented - was marketed for solos/small practices and this is not the case any longer.

Recommendations to other buyers: There has to be something better. Clio started out well but now is trying to be too many things for too many practices. For example, there is a whole process for the type of currency you are accepting - great if you are an international firm, cumbersome if you aren't. Can't compound interest. Not lean and streamlined like I would expect by now for being on the market for so many years.

Comments: Clio provides most of the features a small law firm needs. It is beautifully intuitive. However, the new tiered pricing puts some of the most important features into the higher tiers and out of reach of small firms and solos. Additionally, Clio puts features that should go together, like custom fields and document automation, into different tiers. Most cloud options offer one-size-fits-all pricing. That may be a good thing.

Pros: Ease of use

Cons: Lack of customization available

Overall: Clio is a great product! I love that when I have a problem or a suggestion, the customer service representatives are eager to help. The only problem I really have with Clio is the lack of customizing it to fit your firm. My attorney asks me for specific reports, but Clio does not offer them. I'd love for there to be a way to create your own reports (i.e., list of Expert Witness and their Tax ID numbers; how much money TOTAL we have invested in our contingency-fee based clients; list of declined cases; etc.) It would also be nice to be able to move the fields around on the screens to flow better. Clio helps me keep clients information organized, which I absolutely love. Unfortunately, I don't get to use it to its fullest capabilities because my attorney has no interest in doing so.

Pros: Configurable and stable. Includes a payment portal which is convenient. Accepts multiple documents into its server for storage. The help desk is the best I have encountered.

Cons: Slower than I would like. Too rigid in many of the areas. The printed bill is not carefully controlled and the headings of a table are often printed on the bottom of a page and the data - without a column descriptor - gets printed on the next page.

Overall: Overall the platform is good. It manages contacts and cases, maintains a calendar and tasks list. It will do document assembly. It appears to be geared for medium size firms. For solo practitioners, the platform works but is not as friendly. The billing system is comprehensive to the point of being complex for a solo. The printing of bills leaves a lot to be desired. Often it will print a bill with the table headers (labels) on the bottom of one page and the data unlabeled on the next page - looking very sloppy and unprofessional. The developers know of the problem but will not fix it - saying just go into the particular bill and adjust it. Which - although possible - defeats the whole purpose of automation.

Pros: The reasonable price, the customizable templates, the ease of use, and the simplified yet robust invoicing and billing functionality.

Cons: While there are not many downfalls with Clio, we would recommend utilizing an additional system for calendaring and contact resource management. As our firm is a true relationship focused and cross-referral based practice, we have found that keeping track of relationships amongst all contacts is paramount. As such, we utilize a separate calendaring and CRM system.

Overall: Our law firm has been utilizing Clio as our practice management system for over six years. It is hands down the best practice management system on the market today. It builds immense value, streamlining, efficiency, and organization to our business. From customizable document templates, to unlimited cloud-based document storage¿Clio is a one-stop shop that covers all bases.

It is a definite value add, is extraordinarily easy to use and customize, and we couldn't run our practice without it.

If you have considered switching to a new practice management system, we highly recommend Clio!

Additionally, the customer support team is incredibly helpful, and can help you find solutions to any problems that may arise while implementing and using Clio.

Recommendations to other buyers: Clio is truly impressive and a real one-stop shop for law Firm practice management. The value it adds to your law Firm is immense, and Clio falls in at a price point lower than almost all of it's competitors. For our law firm, choosing Clio is really a no-brainer.

Pros: Calendaring, timekeeping, and invoicing.

Cons: The apps for my phone and iPad are not reliable.

Overall: We are a small criminal defense firm in Texas and have been using Clio for several years. Presently, we have access for almost every member of our firm and each of us use Clio multiple times daily. The calendaring system, timekeeping, and invoice process have proven invaluable. We also use Clio to store documents such as offense reports, probable cause statements, notes, correspondence, etc. We are on our way to becoming a paperless office using Clio. I can access all of my files from any computer. We have been a little concerned about the accuracy of the app for our phones and iPads. Some of our attorneys have stopped using it. Every morning before court, I print out a copy of the day's agenda and bring it with me to court. Overall, I can unreservedly recommend Clio. It has been a huge boon to my firm and it has helped us grow enormously in the past few years.

Recommendations to other buyers: We tried to merge quickbooks with Clio once and it was a disaster. We'd like to try again, but don't want to go through the same experience we endured before. It really was a mess.

Pros: Accessibility and ease of use

Cons: Would like better reporting. My clients do not like to "sync" so the A/R reports do not provide what they need at a glance. I have to export to Excel and recap data so they understand it better. I would like more levels on permissions. Clients would like some people to enter/modify transactions and other members to just view. Right now you cannot view unless you enter and modify.

Overall: I have used Clio for 2 years now with multiple clients. Clio's accessibility and ease of use has provided us with flexibility and has allowed us to spend less time on administrative duties and more time on our clients. I highly recommend Clio.

Recommendations to other buyers: Clio has great support. They are prompt and give detailed answers.

Comments: There are so many options for law practice management software out there that it's an overwhelming task to choose one. When I started my firm, I tried at least 15 different solutions to figure out which came the closest to having all of the features I needed (ease of use, cloud-based, document and file management, email integration, third party app integration, invoicing and billing, customization options). Clio was the winner, hands-down. Bonus: their customer service is the best I have experienced, of any company (not just in the software space). It's hard to find a perfect solution, but Clio is definitely the best for us.

Comments: Clio user for 4 years now. Overall, happy with the program. The billing component works very well and we've had no difficulties generating invoices for corporations or integrating with Client end third-party billing company software. Favorite feature is the G unify integration with our Vonage phone system. It captures all of our calls, and allows seamless entry of billing while at the same time capturing any notes from the call. Document generation, however, is not strong.

Comments: I have been a Clio user for two years - since I left the world of Biglaw to open my own solo practice. When I was in Biglaw, I was forced to use four independent software products to do what Clio allows me to do in a single, integrated product. It is very user friendly, and for the most part intuitive. Because Clio is cloud-based, users benefit from a continual flow of upgrades, improvements and enhancements. The quality of the learning resources have also improved a lot over the past two years. My only minor criticism would be - I think Clio could do a better job of promoting these learning aids to its users, as I sort of stumble upon them, usually when I was looking for something else. I cannot imagine practicing law without Clio. If you are looking for software to run your practice, look no further. I also appreciate Clio's deep and sincere interests in enhancing the success of its users. The annual Clio Cloud Conference is an extraordinary event that is not to be missed. Thank you, Clio.

Comments: Our two lawyer, two paralegal law firm has been using CLIO for over two years and are very satisfied with this product. We are in two different locations so cloud-based practice management was a must. CLIO is remarkably stable - it has NEVER crashed. Can't say that for PC Law, the disastrous server-based platform that we used to use. Several support staff in the past, and our present staff, have all found it extremely easy to learn and to use. Customer service and tech support are superb. The document automation features are excellent. Current flaws are: the smartphone Apps need additional features, and the Lawpay integration is flawed. CLIO's tech support representatives have acknowledged these issues candidly and are working on solutions.

Comments: In researching practice management software when opening our mainly-construction based law office 3 years ago, we decided to choose Clio based on reading product reviews and ease of use for new users. Now, 3 years later, we are pleased that Clio has been able to grow with our practice and expand easily to multiple users as we have hired additional attorneys and support staff. While we haven't yet chosen to take advantage of all of Clio's features, we have been pleased as we transition into using specific features based upon our needs. For instance, we utilized Clio Connect in order to send invoices to clients last month for the first time, and as a result, I am actually looking forward to this month's billing cycle as it seems much less daunting and time-consuming! We hope to continue to expand our use of features and Customer Service has been stellar in documenting my suggestions and experiences. We highly recommend Clio to attorneys who are beginning the self-employment journey just as we did 3 years ago.

When I checked out the features, I immediately went paperless and scan all my documents into Clio under the client matters. I had a couple of issues with the billing, and I called Clio Support. Clio Support handled my issue efficiently and effectively, which is a big plus.
More recently, started using Clio Connect as a means of creating transparency with with my clients. This has worked out well with clients complimenting me on being so responsive and informative with their matter.

Pros: the entire case is here...

Overall: I am not very new to CLIO, but love finding all the treasures tucked away for easier case management and I love that everything is all in one place, that place is wherever I am.

Pros: Ease of use; mobile app; integration with other programs; customer support.

Pros: Clean, easy to use interface

Cons: I think the way the emails are saved in the white space could be organized a little better. I'd also like to see a month calendar at a glance that allows me to see the hours billed per day, with a week and a month total.

Overall: I tried multiple software programs before Clio. Clio is by far the easiest to use and the most versatile for the money. They have the best customer service, and I feel like my small law firm matters and has a voice. That is important to me.

Recommendations to other buyers: Not at this time, but I appreciate you asking! :)

Cons: Features have been added to higher tiered membership levels, that didn't exist when I signed up. In order to access the new features, there's a steep price increase.

Overall: I opened a solo practice right out of law school. Clio's reasonable monthly rates made subscribing an easy decision. Right away, I got into the habit of entering clients, automating documents, sending files and communications through a secure portal. Clio encouraged these great habits, made them simple and consistent.

Pros: Time tracking is very easy, and it handles multiple matters for the same client very well. Reports are useful, most of them. Tasks and the system allowing you to make records of phone conversations are great. Clio Connect and the ability to share documents with clients and others is fantastic.

Cons: Billing system is clunky; contacts management is only okay at best. It's not a cheap solution.

Overall: We've been using Clio for just over a year now in our firm. We've added several new people and consolidated a number of software programs into a much smaller number of programs. The contacts management and documents management features of Clio are not as robust as the other solutions we're using, and we'd like to see some improvements in the contacts system and the ways bills are run and sent. However, the time entry is MUCH easier now, it's overall fairly easy to learn the system and set up new users, and the ability to link contacts to matters is vastly helpful for our conflicts checking (assuming you use it).

Clio is not going to magically make your life better; you still have to learn to use it and then make sure it gets used correctly (we have some attorneys here who haven't been as good about that as the staff and some of the other attorneys have been), but it's so worth the effort. And, if you have a problem, their support staff is fantastic. Quick to respond, very helpful and polite, and if they have to tell you that the requested fix isn't available yet they'll at least assure you that it's being put on the list for future improvements.

We looked at a lot of practice management solutions, and I think we made the right choice in going with Clio.

Pros: How it keeps my files organized.

Cons: The little kinks and quirks the software has. For example, I have to upload documents in Microsoft Edge instead of my default browser Google Chrome.

Overall: I hung a shingle right out of law school in 2011. I practiced for a year without any type of real law practice management system or software. It was cumbersome and not very practical. I researched all the major law practice management programs and felt that Clio was the best choice. Now after employing it in my practice for the last few years, I know I can never give it up. Even when I do random comparisons to other up and coming LPMS, Clio's features and functionality blows them out of the water. I will continue to do business with Clio for as long as I am in solo practice.

Pros: Responsiveness of support team and user friendly interface. Another pro is the ability to integrate with many third party apps.

Cons: Wish there was more reporting features to help assess status of practice receivables.

Overall: I absolutely love Clio - their design is great, the interface is user friendly, and they are extremely responsive and open to our feedback! This was the first software I tried when I started growing my practice and have never thought twice about looking elsewhere!

Recommendations to other buyers: Worth trying before you considering any other software.

Comments: I was hesitant to commit to Clio because I found it a little clunky and lacking important features regarding time-keeping that you would think most lawyers would want. Nonetheless, it has really developed over the years and today provides pretty much all I need to manage a growing practice. I hope they continue to build more integrations and features, but of the many platforms I have tried, it seems to be the best.

Pros: That all my case material is all in one place.

Cons: Budgets are not as useable as I had hoped. And it's a Canadian company. And I pay American exchange rates. ¿¿¿¿

Overall: Notes, cases, appointments, budgets, contacts and billing. All in one area. Streamlines everything and makes work more efficient. I can now track my work and my teams work effectively.

Recommendations to other buyers: I looked at multiple options and trialed a few programs. CLIO had the best options for case management. I'm not a lawyer, but I do very similar work in terms of managing cases in the medical legal framework. It made managing cases and referrals much more manageable.

Clio speeds retrieving relevant case information, and its integrated payments for invoices is great.

Pros: Flexibility, customization, integrations, and speed.

Cons: The calendar view options.

Overall: Clio speeds retrieving relevant case information, and its integrated payments for invoices is great. Clio is exponentially faster at creating invoices, and recording payments than any desktop based app I've used over the years. Clio is easy on the eyes.

Clio makes it easy to create custom fields that are relevant only to a selected practice area. Implementing those custom fields is intuitive, and there are built-in workflows to assign groups of custom fields to a practice area.

The only knocks I could offer is that the document automation doesn't allow merge fields into fillable PDF forms, and the calendar views are somewhat limited. However, it's easy to sync calendars with Google or Microsoft Office 365, which have better view options.

The iOS app is excellent.

Recommendations to other buyers: No.

Pros: Easy to use
Fast performance
Clear user interface
Available anywhere
Lots of integrations with other products
Great customer training and support
Easy, fast invoicing

Cons: The dashboard needs some work, it's not possible to customize how many days of the year you will work (so you can meet the goals you set) and it's currently not possible to track by revenue in the door, only by billed hours. Would love to have an integration available with project management software since tasks are just to do lists and to do lists don't work.

Overall: I have been using Clio for about a year now and absolutely love it. I used to use Abacus Law which was fine but frustrating. Clio is SO easy to use, I'm a lawyer, not an accountant, but it's easy to figure out what I'm supposed to do. Plus their customer service and on-boarding process are great. Any issues I've had I've been able to resolve quickly with the support team and the development team listens to feedback from users and implements it! Pretty awesome. I have small firm, it's just me. I travel all over the place and I love being able to log into Clio any time anywhere, even from my phone! I capture a lot more of my billable hours. And invoicing my clients in a SNAP. The third party integrations are outstanding, I love how it works with so many other products that I use. I've been able to stack a lot of things to make my firm seem like it's a lot bigger than it is. I <3 Clio! Get it, you will not be sorry.

Comments: When it comes to organization I am a wreck. Between my ADHD and just general airheadedness, I tend to get myself into bad situations. While Clio has not been the silver bullet, cure all, it has definitely been a blessing. I don't think I would be able to operate my little solo shop without it. Not to mention the great partnerships they have developed. As far as I am concerned, this is a must for all start-ups.

Pros: Quick reference
Calendar
Time entry that auto generates bills
Task reminders

Cons: No spell check
Poor calendar feed sync - wait times are too long for appointments made in Clio to show up on iPhone
Contacts search - need more than just (Last Name, First Name) view because sometimes I cant remember clients last names.

Overall: There is no limit to the ability to quickly search a client matter in Clio or in the Clio app for iPhone. I see so many of my colleagues rummaging through files when having to make reference to a matter, and if their not rummaging through files - they just cant seem to remember what they need to at that moment because we are all so busy. At no time has Clio not provided my partner and I the ability to; on demand quickly search for any client, document, date, or information. Literally with a simple search function, we can search through every item in our Clio database that references our search query. We can share, print and email the information on demand also. Clio connects is another great way we keep communication open with our clients -we are transparent with billings, time allocation to matters and with what is going on. This goes a long way for us and our clients really appreciate it.

Recommendations to other buyers: Must have ability to set appointment in iPhone and have it immediately sync with Clio Calendar. Still working with 2 calendars - not fun.

Pros: Easy, fast and convenient to use. Billing clients is a snap.

Cons: Some important features reserved for higher-end price tiers, but still an overall good value. Billing on alternative basis is sometimes confusing. Flat, percentage based, and blended fees are challenging to implement.

Overall: I've been using Clio for several years now and have to say it's the best practice management solution I've ever used (after trying out most of the avaiable offerings). Easy, Fast and Convenient, with a great mobile app, this tool will help you capture your time, communicate with clients and get paid... Faster and easier.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the time to learn the tools, and get help migrating your data into Clio...

Comments: I did a substantial amount of research before opening my firm in 2012. All of my findings led me to start the practice with CLIO and never looked back. My business runs on a Google platform so it integrates seamlessly with our database, documents, calendar, and other business apps.

CLIO creates great metrics which are great for management purposes as well as forecasting. As the managing partner of the firm, I'm able to oversee what my firm generates as a whole and individually by each partner.

I'd have to say my favorite part of CLIO is the virtual access and being able to carry entire files wherever I go. No matter where I am or what I'm doing I can access, update, and modify files on the go. The efficiency boost is unmatched, and I feel less shackled to my office. I can work from home or from the beach as long as internet access is available. Most of the time I can work from smartphone or tablet.
