Pros
Moodle is great for any sized school. We are a small public school in Texas and are just beginning to implement it. The price was just right for the district (free) due to decreased education funding. Being open source we can access the developers easily. It has served us well and what makes it better is that it is always being improved.
Cons
It runs best on a Linux server, so you need an administrator that is well versed in Linux and LAMP.
Overall
I recommend this to any institution that wants to get into online course content.

Pros
Moodle is a Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is a Free web application that educators can use to create effective online learning sites. It can be run on any OS (Microsoft, Mac, Linux).
Over 45,000 learning communities with over 32,000,000 registered users in over 205 countries in 80 different languages, prove Moodle's stability, reliability, and adaptability. I've done hundreds of installations, that are limited only by the instructors' imaginations. Perfect!
Cons
There are no 'cons' to Moodle that I can see as of yet.
Overall
I highly recommend this Open Source Initiative (OSI) software platform built for teachers by teachers.
