Gaithersburg, MD (PRWEB) October 28, 2009 -- 212 Software announced today the imminent release of a major security enhancement designed to secure personal and sensitive information stored in their Windows® based software applications--TOPS 321™ and CAManager™. The security enhancements are intended to prevent unauthorized access to homeowner records and sensitive homeowner information stored in those records, such as bank account information used for ACH Direct Debit transactions. This will help customers of 212 Software comply with pending federal legislation, like Senate Bill 1490 which not only mandates securing sensitive, personal information, but has fines and penalties for organizations that do not secure this data.
212 Software is the largest provider of property management software for managing Homeowner Associations and Condominiums in the country with over 2400 customers managing an estimated 14 million homes.
Jeff Hardy, President of 212 Software, had this to say about the security enhancement: "With identity theft being a major concern and pending federal legislation, like Senate bill 1490, requiring encryption or other methods for securing sensitive information stored in software applications to prevent identity theft, we felt we had an obligation to our customers to take the initiative and make security enhancements throughout our software applications to make sure our customers would be in compliance. Even though the pending bill has not passed yet, the likelihood of this bill passing, or one very similar to it, is great. Because of the short 180 day timeline in the bill for compliance before fines and penalties are levied, we had to take immediate action to protect our customers from being in violation."
In the pending Senate bill 1490, sensitive personal information includes, but is not limited to:
