Pros
Easy to learn and satisfies our needs. Because it is web-based it can be accessed from anywhere, which is definitely a plus. The ability to have special office forms added as needed is nice. Customer support is wonderful.
Cons
Would like to see less steps or keystrokes to get to where I'm going sometimes. But this has been improving, slowly.
Overall
I would definitely recommend this database to other Behavioral Health providers.

Customer support is excellent!!!
Product is easy to use and intuitive.
Web-based solution is great for providers who need access from home and/or multiple locations.
System is very reliable and secure.
EMR makes keeping up with chart notes a breeze.
Billing module is excellent to link with EMR. And the electronic claims option is invaluable for submitting and getting paid in a timely manner.
Cons
Wish they had an integrated credit card solution. Also, it would be helpful to have an ERA option which would allow for receiving payment information to populate the billing module electronically. Hopefully that will be coming.
Overall
Excellent system!! While the EMR and billing module are great, the best part of purchasing Valant is the phenomenal customer service!!! The training and support are exceptional!!

Pros
This system is easy to use and has both documentation and billing features in one place. I have tried many different software and database programs. Valant is the only web based program which meets all of my practice needs. Excellent technical assistance at no additional cost.
Cons
This system works best for providers that only accept insurance and self-pay clients.
Overall
This is wonderful software for a mental health provider. The staff is very helpful and made implementation very easy.

Very easy to use. Intuitive interface. Flexible charting with user-defined templates. Ability to create patient reminders. Easy, intuitive patient scheduler. Billing and e-prescription modules available and integrated with EMR. Very low cost, with no setup fees. Hugely helpful support staff. Can create documents in Word and upload them into chart. Can upload PDFs into chart (labs, faxes, etc).
Cons
Not sure about CCHIT status and not sure how well the data created on the EMR migrates to/from other EMRs.
Overall
Strongly recommend this EMR to any other psychiatrist for overall value and ease of use.

Easy to navigate and use.
Cons
Uploading documents is limited by size. (5 MB). Most psychiatry documents and reports are long and uploading them in batches is time consuming. Scanning and uploading existing paper medical records becomes cumbersome because of size limitation.

Pros
This product is very useful in many ways: great for those of us who write or refer to notes from many different locations, quck speed, the site logic is relatively easy to pick up, great customer support, very good cost, nice and easy way to write prescriptions and order labs. The other really helpful service is their transcription service that is nicely tied into the notes function. The quality is really high with very few corrections needed. The cost is slightly higher than other options that out-source internationally, but I would rather pay a few pennies more for the quality and speed. Nearly every transcription gets turned around by the next day.
Cons
The biggest concern about this product is that it works well for solo-practioners, but not so well if you want to have access to your colleagues schedules or notes that have not been signed yet (a concern that pops up for cross-coverage). There were several times in the past year that the service was unavailable due to server problems at Valant. But, they worked hard to repair this issue, and I have noticed any problems since their concerted and extensive efforts.
Overall
While my practice has decided not to continue using this product in our group practice due to the limits of the scheduling function, I personally continue using it for several other off-site contracts that I have. This is really it's strength. As long as I have secure internet access, I can use it anywhere. And once again, I very much endorse the ease, speed and quality of the integrated transcription service.

customer service is very responsive, will customize to your needs (as is possible) very user friendly, do not have to be computer expert to use it. lots of space to store info
Cons
a few glitches starting out, but they have worked out the bugs. many fields are customizable, but they have to make the changes from their end. the time difference east to west means that early on the east coast, no one is available for help (although they have added cust. serv hours).
Overall
definite thumbs up. their customer service alone is worth it, but they are improving the product regularly in response to customers.

Good integration of functions of scheduling, progress notes, and practice reports

The eRx function has been a great addition, but is still a little tricky to navigate. The eRx specific reports are very fickle, and take many tries to create a single report.
Overall
The Valant EMR has been an important tool in allowing my solo private practice to continue to grow. Valant, since I started with them in June 2006, has made excellent product enhancements and improvement in backup capabilities. The eRx feature has been useful, but still needs improvements in functionality. I have and would highly recommend Valant EMR to other psychiatric providers.

After briefly trying another EMR program, our liability insurer recommended that we consider using Valant EMR.
Beginning with the 1:1 online training, I knew I had found the group of professionals who could consistently provide the same quality of personalized service to me that I strive to give to all of my patients.
Cons
Valant is a product in evolution. Knowing what is around the corner makes it hard to wait to put the technology to work.
Overall
Despite the fact that my partners and myself are not easy to please, all of us rave over Valant and their professional and thoughtful staff. Even our IT support staff, prone to loose work to Valant with its IT-included services, could only encourage us to move forward into the "future of health care." And most importantly of all, even though the EMR reason may not be so obvious to them, our patients can also recognize that somethimg is changing for the better in their care.

No more paper charts. Great customer support.
Cons
Having to continually open/close charts instead of scrolling to next. Reports in many different places. Billing module completely seperate- no link from patient chart. Statements not individually saved in EMR. Schedule takes too long to load after each entry then must scroll down even in full screen. E-scribe seperate too. Not enough info carries over from EMR to E-scribe.
Overall
Would highly recommend but still much to improve on.

Customer support has been consistently improved in terms of quickness and quality of response.
Cons
Time span between upgrades.
In past (not sure if this is still the case) suggested upgrades often prioritized by the number of customer suggestions for a particular change.
Room for improvement for support staff in working knowledge of issues with interface with word processors, Apple platform, etc.
A server crash last year caused some data loss and seemed to reveal a lapse in monitoring of backup methodology, but the company has instituted a hardware upgrade and a rigorous CQI program to address these concerns.
Overall
Very Good.
I don't know how this will integrate with upcoming ever changing Federal requirements for EMRs, but it is a good product.
Quality and accountability appear to be consistent value of the company.
It would be nice to have a more rapid implementation /upgrade cycle and more responsiveness to customer requests based on other criteria than frequency of which an improveemnt is suggested.

Pros
Eliminate paper by easily scamnning all documents and uploading, shred the hard copy. Access my medical record from any internet connected PC. Keep a back-up copy with click and print to a PDF. Simple billing. Easily adapts to my style with Windows cut and paste for new documents and forms.
Cons
Interface still needs some work. The AJAX word processor is a little kludgy. I prefer to write my notes in MS Word then paste into the Valant progress notes template.
Overall
I've looked at many EMRs, and used two enterprise EMRS. For the private practice Valant is a clear winner.

Pros
The greatest plus is the tech support, given by a knowledgeable, responsive (and fun) account manager. You're not alone with a daunting big piece of software--there's always help!
Valant was designed by a psychiatrist and it has the features that make psychiatrists' lives easier. Notes can be easily generated, either from templates, by modifying the last note, or by dictation to a service provided by Valant. Reminders for patients can be easily generated and kept track of. Labs can be ordered within the EMR and printed out for the patient to take to the lab. Results can be uploaded to the patient's chart. Prescriptions can be kept track of and printed out for the patient. The new billing module seems like it will be workable, too, but it takes a bit of work to get going if you want to do e-billing.
Cons
All the wrinkles aren't worked out yet, so some procedures are cumbersome. The good news is that Valant is responsive in modifying the software.
Overall
The combination of a very full-featured product and great customer service makes Valant a really strong contender.

Pros
Excellent program for solo provider office. Web based design allows me to access files anywhere and to work from home on unfinished files. There is enough built in flexibility to develop personal shortcuts and style. And when I needed, I could always riched technical support live and quickly resolve any questions.
Cons
Unless I missed it, if I don't bill HMOs, I can not use billing link to organize fee-for-service tracking of paid and unpaid fees.
Overall
Simply the best program for psychiatrists so far. Try it and you'll get hooked.

Regarding billing: with Valant's newly released EasyBilling module, you may administer and track all of your billing through the web-based software. There are options for both fee-for-service practices as well as insurance-contracted practices.

This EMR is exactly what psychiatrists need, not more and not less. It has shortened the time I spend documenting, made my practice of medicine safer, particularly in that the medication list for each patient is before my eyes at all times when I'm working in the chart and is remarkably easy to update.
Cons
Entering the medication list the first time would take less time if I did not have to wait for drop down boxes. This may not apply to all users, and I have found no other negatives with this EMR.
Overall
I highly recommend this EMR to any interested psychiatrists or even to psychologists who may want to move into an electronic form of documentation.

Never another lost chart again. what med were you on? what dose? middle of the night, on vacation, anywhere! LOVE IT! We have all but gone paperless. Even the repeat questionares I ask patients each visit i now have on "wipey boards" and i have a similar version in a 'macro' in Valant. Big time saver, big paper saver, less trees killed, happy doctor.
Cons
as a physician who does both Family Practice and Mental Health /Addiction Medicine it has been a little harder to adapt the program. I have had to add my medical Dx in the bottam of the notes or in the coments boxes of the scheduling. Valant has been very accomidating however in adding any Dx we need however and i have added my most common ones, chronic pain ist a biggie and not your typical Psych Dx! they have been wonderful and I am loving the system and adapting it for my FP patients who come to the office.
Overall
We started our new office with the system. Our old charts that were brought with us were not scaned in but we have that option. Medical records from other facilities can be directly uploaded if you have an internet fax. As can labs. This is how we have handled it. Slightly more face time for medicine providers on the computer but much less paper! overall saves time/ $$$ and I love it

I have only recently begun to use the EMR system and find it so much easier and more effective than either the old paper and pen charting or even dictated hospital records. I like the ease of scheduling one's own clients and how easy it is to customize the system to one's own practice needs.
Cons
The cons are minor glitches and I suppose being worked on...there is no autosave draft function. I had entered almost an entire intake without purposefully saving it. The patient asked about a particular medication and I navigated away from the EMR to look it up and lost all my data.
The other issue that is irksome is the font changes within the templates themselves. You'll be typing and the font size and type will change without warning. Please add more Word like buttons at the top to change font size and type.
Overall
For any clinician who wants more control over their medical record, this is the suite for you.

web-based so no problems w/security, upgrades, etc.; product 'thinks' like a psychiatrist in office practice; no extraneous stuff; prescribing feature is great, just slow enough to prevent mistakes, not too slow to impede productivity; upload/transcription feature is outstanding

searching for diagnoses is sometimes a drag; telephone display in "Patient info" window show 9 digits, requiring user to go to window and scroll over; sometimes I think that buttons would be nicer c/w having to click on a line of text; e.g., for recent notes

really excellent product; would be nice if there was a way to have the calendar sync w/iCal so that I didn't have to make entries in two calendars.

I have been using Valant for about two years, and have found it to be a very easy program to use. I like the fact that I can enter information to the medical records multiple ways--dictation, typing, scanning. The user interfact is clearly laid out and intuitive to use. I also do my billing through this website, and love the ease of having all the information in one website that I can access from any terminal. The support service has been extremely responsive on the rare occasions that I have had issues. I feel confident that the information is secure.
Cons
I have no major issues with this product. Since I have downloaded Office 2007, I have sometimes had problems printing records, but I think this may be a bug in the Microsoft software, not in Valant's site.
Overall
Overall, I find this to be an excellent product that has improved the organization of my practice.

Pros
The program is easily started and more specifically designed for a psychiatric practice. The Valant team is very responsive to client needs and suggestions. You are able to quickly upload scanned notes and documents for easy access at any time. The web based access was very helpful for me during Hurricane Ike as my office building was closed and the Valant system could be accessed from other locations allowing me all of my patient information.
Cons
The web editor is not very versatile and should be updated. It would be helpful to allow multiple prescriptions per page.
Overall
A very affordab le and versatile program that is very cost effective and easy to maintain.
