Pros: Strong database with a lot of features and the unique Outlook add-in to bill emails straight into the integrated accounting software. The add-in will make you very dependent really quickly if you bill for time reading and responding to emails.

Cons: Horrible support and inaccurate sales information. Each time there is an update, we had to end up calling in to fix the problem. If we were lucky, we got an experienced tech. Otherwise we ended up going through several until the problem was fixed. We would spend hours on the phone each time for days in a row and the problems would completely prevent us from working for a day or more. The down time was costing us too much money and client retention issues. Finally after 5 years we had enough and cancelled the program based upon the original salesman's representations that we paid for the program for 2 years, then after that we could pay for maintenance but we would have a usable stand alone program. We found out that is untrue when we cancelled. We were not given the opportunity to retrieve our information, billing or financials unless we paid for a month-to-month account and tech fee. In response, the company would not return our phone calls.

Overall: Time capture for billing, full accounting software.

I had a very bad experience with both the software and the customer service department.

Cons: The software takes SO MUCH time - I realized how time consuming this software is on the very first day! I immediately called the company and tried to terminate the contract. The software was NOT what abacus represented. Of course, they refused to cancel the contract. They said they would keep billing me. The guy i spoke to told me he did not have the authority to cancel it. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Save yourself a headache and money! Now I pay for software I DO NOT USE. Also, the sales person lied to me I had to pay for "training hours." They charged me for training, which I never used. I told them this software is NOT working for me. I wanted to cancel the software on the very first day when I purchased it. Again, they refused and told me I would be billed for 3 YEARS - PAYING 3 YEARS FOR SOMETHING I NEVER USED. This company made misrepresentations about its software and now wants to profit from its own wrongdoing!

Abacus Accounting\Billing needs to reduce keystrokes when billing and correcting.

Pros: Integration with calendar is good; can click on calendar events to bill them. Ease of integration is generally good.

Cons: It takes TOO MANY KEYSTROKES to bill a time tix, time tix window is not easily navigable, offers little flexibility in billing, need a separate "time tix" for each matter billed, cannot use case name (vs billing number) to bill (other programs allow billing by either name or number).
Need a way to check calendar events for the month to identify those not billed.

Overall: coordination with Abacus Law Calendaring program, which is excellent.

Everything -- and more -- that a sole practitioner needs for case management

Pros: Ease of access of court, client, and opposing counsel information, as well as calendar and diary reminders (critical for a one-horse show such as mine). Plus, the customer support branch is the best I have ever encountered for any kind of software, ever.

Cons: Too many features that are not important to me and get in the way. It is sometimes difficult to get to the task I want to perform without having to navigate around features that are unnecessary to my small practice.

Overall: I can practice without a secretary.

I have used Abacus for over 10 years, and have found it to be extremely intuitive to use.

Pros: When using Abacus to manage cases, the process is as simple as doing the client work, then billing the time, and finally creating an event to either follow up on what was done, to perform an additional task, or to appear in court on a specific date. I can then move from client to client, not have to remember anything because I will always know the exact status of each client's matter. And if a client calls, I don't have to pull a file to update them on the status of their matter.

Cons: With the most recent version we have had an unusual number of things that are not working the same way they worked prior to the update. While the support staff seems capable, they are on the West Coast and I am on the East Coast, so I end up staying at the end of the day to resolve issues.

Overall: I am a very effective in my billing using this software.

My experience as a new user has been positive.

Pros: I like the ability to learn about the software at my own pace and being able to use a variety of methods to get the information.

Cons: The amount of time it can take me to make changes. I have had formatting issues that were discussed in the videos and had a lot of difficulty setting up the same new formats in my own program.

Overall: It is comprehensive in scope so I can keep all of my relevant information in one place and retrieve it on the fly, which means I can answer client inquiries effectively and efficiently.

A great choice for law firms.

Pros: The ability to link emails and track electronic information is very useful and allows the user to locate past correspondence with ease.

Cons: The inability to track telephonic communication can sometimes be an issue; however, notes have become useful for this task.

Just like a diet - if you follow the instructions your billables will increase. Ours did!

Pros: Ease of use - it seems daunting at first but once I learned how to use it sand became familiar with it, I am pleased at the functionality.

Cons: Our accounting side said they have had some trouble in reconciling escrows; however, we are working that out.

Overall: Increased billability, more control over budget, all of our financial matters in one place for ease of management

I have used Abacus Law for many years and the cloud-based service since they became available.

Pros: Designed for lawyers, easy to use, and powerful. The calendar coordinates well with my Outlook and mobile device.

Cons: The accounting side is rigid, which can be frustrating, but the rigidity also helps avoid errors. Generally the system is well balanced.

Overall: Helps me manage my practice and do my billing.

Pros: Abacus has everything we need for our daily functions and makes basic accounting easy. We can access our client's many different ways (i.e.: name, matter, ID). I love the way the top bar is set up. The icons are used daily. I can print out reports for the partner within seconds. Easy transfer of funds from one client to another.

Cons: Sometimes when updates are made, there are problems with the monthly billing and client payments. After inputting the time tickets, sometimes the program freezes up and we need to shut down the system a couple of times and even need to call customer services for help. Also, when printing the invoices, even though I put them in alpha order, when they print out, they print out numerically or even one time recently just printed out (255 bills) in no methodical way. The same thing happens when inputting client payments. Instead of allowing me to input what I want to input, if I mark an invoice or invoices.

Pros: 1. Affordable: Having purchased similar software years ago and having paid an amount for it, I knew that the cost of a new firm management software that handled both front office and back office matters was going to be a major obstacle for me. Particularly if I wanted the software to be resident on my computer as opposed to web-based. But, with the monthly payment plan that Abacuslaw offers, it was very easy to sign up.
2. Complete management solution. There are very few programs around that offer both a full management software and a full accounting software to attorneys. Most of the software out there offers a billing component, but not a full accounting solution. With Abacuslaw, I can have both for the same price. I don't have to have another accounting software like QuickBooks pro to handle the accounting of my office.
3. The software is very easy to use. Most of the time, I can figure things out by myself without much training. But, to the extent I need training, I can find videos on YouTube or worst case scenario, I can sign up for their affordable one on one instructions.
4. Really good support staff: My questions or problems are usually answered and resolved on the same call into the office. Very responsive and knowledgeable support staff and extremely cooperative and helpful.
5. I've done lots of research. Not too many companies with the same level of service and features for the same price. Highly recommend it.

Cons: 1. Glitches. While support staff is very responsive, the number of glitches is at times distracting. I would say that I average about maybe one glitch every three months or so. But it is dealt with very soon.
2. Data migration: The only major problem I had with Abacus law was their data migration. I was migrating from Amicus online and they could not transfer my data. Finally, the only thing they were able to migrate was my case information. I had to reenter my financial data myself. My suggestion is to make sure that they understand what format you are migrating from and get a firm commitment from them that they can handle the migration without problems.
In the end, though, the drawbacks are so small, compared to the benefits that the minor complaints I have don't even register.

Overall: This software allows me to run my small law firm without having to hire full time assistants and automates about 80% of my administrative tasks.

Pros: Remote capabilities, secure file storage, ease of file retrieval, customizing feature set.

The software is easy to navigate once you get the hang of it. Custom additions are easy to make to on the fly. The security of the cloud is important and with the scanning of files, all your documents are safe and retrievable from anywhere with remote access. Staying on top of important matters and being able to pull down documents and forward them, can put your office at ease.

Cons: Integration with other media for Mircosoft, Outlook, email integration doesn't seems to work very well. Work on the integration piece.

Overall: Being able to pull the necessary documents quickly, efficiently for each client. Like having another assistant in the office with you.

My favorite feature of Abacus is the rules based options. I don't have to calculate due dates

Pros: I love that a can either print a report based on certain dates or certain cases and that I can name or rename certain fields. I also like that all of the county rules are updated automatically. When you are busy like I am -- so often forget until it's too late

Cons: My least favorite thing about the cloud based option is that I have to constantly change screens. I will remedy that with installing another monitor side-by-side so that I can keep Abacus open in the case that I'm working in while working on another document at the same time.

Overall: peace of mind with the rules based option

Was easy to learn and get used to. I used Amicus for years. Abacus is great software

Pros: Very user friendly and great feature to be able to customize the software to our needs. I like the way the date calculator works.

Cons: I wish it was displayed like Amicus as files. That was very clear and client files stood out more.

Overall: For sure tech support and more advanced features. WE do not need a lot of the features but comforting knowing we can add some features later.

Pros: I've learned how to craft my queries and the flexibility that allows in the flow of my case management is awesome.

Cons: Hard to say, but if anything, I'd like improvements to the functionality of the mobile versions only

Overall: I've used it since it was first developed. I've never blown a deadline, or lost client info. Can't recommend it enough.

Pros: I like the way it captures billing in several venues and how it links names to matters. Opening of new cases are very easy.

Cons: I like everything about the software. I do not like the issues which arise with MS Word and Outlook in Office 365. Also that the software tends to freeze up a lot.

Overall: The particularly am benefited with the billing diary and the ticket review.

Pros: Easy to use, and great functions. Love all the report options and billing is a breeze. The overall look is great also.

Pros: I really like the integration between case management and accounting software as well as the ability to coordinate the calendar with Microsoft Outlook.

Cons: Statute of limitations dates in personal injury forms cannot be locked or secured to prevent accidental or potentially malicious changes by any employee. I have requested a change in this regard but I have not yet seen it implemented. I also wish our private cloud software had a more automated update option.

Pros: ease of use and keeping cases organized - makes work flow over all a lot easier - very user friendly

Pros: Having a case management software that can be customized to how we run our practice is important. Abacus allows us to implement our ways of doing things into our software. It's very convenient and has made our jobs much more efficient.

Cons: The cross over from our old software to this new software was a bit of a hassle, but the Abacus staff was there to provide us with support every step of the way.

Overall: The most beneficial part of Abacus was being able to customize our program to match our specific practice areas.

The customer support is excellent. The team is always happy and willing to assist with any issues.

Pros: Having our data on the cloud, the ability to link emails and documents to each client, and the reports capability.

Overall: The ability to access our files from anywhere. We no longer have to keep a server up to date or pay for backups of our server.

Pros: Centralized calendar, name and matter organization, form updates for immigration and the ability make our own forms. we have been using for a little over a year and it has made our office more successful. The incorporated outlook email sync saves the email and time.

Pros: Anything problems we have, customer support is right there willing and able to assist us. It's the best attribute regarding Abacus.

Cons: Abacus glitches quite a bit, in comparison to using a non-cloud based programs. It crashes and reboots itself. While we have never been displaced for an extended amount of time. With out workload a few minutes matters to us.

Support is nothing short of phenomenal! We switched from Amicus to Abacus and are very happy.

Pros: Probably the most is the support. I put off my first support call for a long time--waited until I had a good chunk of time because I assumed I would be on hold forever. Not the case. The person that answered the phone (no hold time) was the person that solved my problem with ease. They explained what they were doing so that I could handle the next time if there was a next time and they haven't treated anyone in our office like they were dumb--even when they had no idea what they were doing. This has been the case each time we have called support. The transition, once all of our data was converted went smoothly and even our limited computer users had little problems from day one.

Cons: The least are probably things that I just don't understand how to do yet. We have only been using the software since January, so I try to spend a little time weekly learning a new aspect of the program. The one thing I wish it would do that amicus did, was in events, I could schedule events that would be added in once another even was completed. In abacus I can set dates out in advance, but they are not contingent on when something was completed. Hope that is something they are looking at for future upgrades. That is probably the only thing I miss from amicus.

Overall: We did the switch because of the buy-out of amicus but have been very happy with the change. We are doing everything through the cloud and it has been seemless.

Pros: Ability to review/print invoices that were generated. Easy time entry and check writing. Use of forms and information within the program. Training videos and customer service are awesome; has been extremely helpful anytime I had a problem!! Our rep is also very friendly and willing to help or get me to correct department.

Cons: Reversing payments is different. Lineage on check printing is difficult to manage. Having to change tax rate when it changes in each record instead of updating in one place.

Overall: We are able to use it within the cloud and access wherever we may need to.

Easy setup and user friendly.

Pros: It's user friendly and pretty straightforward. Software makes it easy to track important dates, documents, and events for our files. Help make our jobs more efficient.

Cons: the software wasn't able to capture all of our financial history and time accurately so we had to bring over balance forwards. That was expected and explained to us so were prepared.

Overall: I enjoy the use of the calendar and tracking the documents and events for our files.

Pros: Ease of use, consistency in operation, great support. In nearly our entire use, different versions and our transition to the "cloud" last year, our up-time has been nearly 99%. I was worried about transitioning to APC (cloud), but the support and transition and setup was painless and well executed. Our employees barely noticed the difference, but for, the Remote Desktop link... Very well done!

Cons: There are a few very minor custom things, but overall, nothing worth mentioning. As I said, I have been a happy customer for about 10 years, seen the growing pains, and various upgraded and improvements, each being better than the previous. We've been quite pleased.

Overall: Most important... CONSOLIDATION! Abacus Law integrated the case management, "tickler" by rule, forms, contacts, matter, ACCOUNTING AND BILLING, all into a single easy to use and learn package. Changes in one area and iterated throughout the software. We almost never and disparate or duplicate data. Well Done!

Pros: It's a full case management program that encompasses everything we need it to do to run our office smoothly. It links all of our documents, schedules all of our appointments, keeps track of reminders, etc. etc. and it's easy to use. We have 27 users and when Abacus is down, we are lost.

Cons: The Accounting portion of Abacus has it's issues. With each new update, changes are made in an attempt to improve it, but there always seems to be some tweaking needed. The Abacus support team, however, has improved tremendously, and they are always ready and available to help make those tweaks.

We had issues importing data from Amicus into Abacus, but the customer support helped get it going

Pros: It's easy to use and fairly intuitive. The customer support is really excellent. The program is flexible and allows multiple ways to enter time.

Cons: Too many "clicks" to do some things. Cannot create some of the screens/reports we want without an extra charge. We cannot customize our file numbers to fit in with our current system.

Overall: It's easier to use and more flexible than Amicus

Pros: The software is everything under one roof. A turn-key operation that allows you start putting everything you need one convenient place. The technical support that comes with Abacus Law is world class - you talk with a real person and not someone located in a foreign country with limited English speaking skills.

Cons: Oftentimes there is not enough space to enter large amounts of text; hence making it difficult to complete certain tasks.

Pros: Because I am a power user, I am able to make it do everything I want . There is not any other PM software out there that is as customizable. However, that comes with a cost in usability (more on that below).

However, I have had excellent technical support. I had an issue that I could not solve on my own. I called CS and, although they were not able to resolve it in that session, I was impressed with the thoroughness of the work and the help offered. They went above and beyond to to try to ID the issue. After tinkering around more, I called back with more info and was connected to another tech who was able to resolve the issue. Both had excellent professionalism and telephone demeanor.

I was very impressed by these two experiences and with the quality of the technicians. This was much better service than I expected and there are only a few companies who have provided this quality of support.

Cons: There is a cost to customizability. That is that it can be quite difficult for a non-computer-guy to set up beyond basic calendaring and contact tracking. The workflow and database relationships are not particularly intuitive. Even simple things like creating a search query take more computer knowledge than most attorney will have. Setting up reports or calendar rules is extremely user-unfriendly. Without my computer background I could never have done it.

Because I'm a power user, I can adapt it to meet all of our needs. But out-of-the-box, it's a little too generic to be really useful for most attorneys, even with the "Special Editions." The attorney who referred me to Abacus uses it as nothing more than a calendar and client contacts ¿ and it's too expensive to use it that way.

Overall: Does just about everything I need to for law firm practice management, once I've tinkered with it enough.

Pros: Regarding the Abacus Law I like how everything can be linked to a case in one intake form. It makes it so much easier to enter a case and have it all done at intake. I love the to-do's or tasks you can assign yourself. I love working with the calendar. The whole process is very easy.

Cons: Sometimes the software runs slow and then shuts down. It's just really inconvenient sometimes. I was having trouble with my intake forms and that getting me stuck and then having the system shut down that that issue has since been resolved.

Overall: Ease at work!

Pros: Our needs were minimal and this software met most of those minimal needs.

Cons: Screens are not customizable. We asked repeatedly for the ability to make custom buttons so that we could execute tasks on each Client without going through their rigorous protocols. After several years and release updates, custom buttons never made it. It seems they don't want users to alter the product so that it best fits the users needs. They are very rigid. At the term of our contract they began billing me at 4 times our agreed rate with no notice. Not once did they disclose the amount they were going to charge and it cannot be found anywhere in their emails, website, etc. For that matter, they could have charged me $1 million a month. In any event, when I told then I did not want do business with such a dishonest company and cancel any service agreement with them, they kept charging my bank card. I finally had to cancel my bank card to stop the charges. Worse than AOL and Comcast.

Overall: It allowed us to move from a paper calendar to a electronic one. I cannot think of anything that is an upgrade from paper files except that.

Okay for legal software but many other options are better.

Pros: I like that I can access AbacusLaw on anything, MacBook, phone, and see my files and use AbacusLaw like I'm at work. The program itself has some automation I have really needed, rules and form fills. Reporting in a dashboard.

Cons: It's pretty comprehensive and I wish I had more time to learn about it. I just use what I use today.

Overall: Our firm is small (10 staff). We aren't tech savvy, use mostly MACs with a few PCs. We've been "functioning" without a real system for collaboration- a mix of online web services (Clio), software (Microsoft Office) ad hoc of course, your typical office. We all agreed a few months back that we HAD to change, pick one system that worked for everyone. At a bar event I learned Abacus. Their demos convinced us, we moved everything into their private cloud with AbacusLaw. AbacusLaw is desktop software, like an application you would run on your own desktop, but, they 'put' it into a cloud that you can log into from any computer or mobile device, even a phone, and use Windows. It's hard to believe it works as seamless as it does. There was a learning curve using their software, at least for me, and we had a remote trainer teach us all the basics and how to input everything into matters. The calendaring is wonderful. I feel like even after training we only use 10% of what the software has, so I am looking forward to learning more. Overall it wasn't painless moving, nor is this a cheap setup, but, I'm glad we did, I feel like we really improved how the practice runs, and would do it again. Hope this helps you.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure to get a demo, and also let them know that you will be importing from another software app. Our team used a few different products before, Clio and some others, it all imported fine .

Pros: Nothing. It is complete garbage. It is outdated and shouldn't be on the market.

Cons: Poor design, simple tasks are overly complicated, they force an over-priced subscription model, doesn't integrate with other programs, does not integrate directly with phone calendars, created duplicate entries for contacts, cannot migrate data.

Overall: Forced subscription model on an outdated program. The program had difficulty with a 4-person law firm. There were numerous issues with duplicate contacts, duplicate emails, multiple scheduling issues, and failed to easily integrate with other applications such as Outlook 2016. We also were forced onto a subscription model, costing approximately $300/month. We received zero updates during that time, despite numerous complaints to the sales team. We purchased a high-end server ($4,000) to run Abacus, thinking the hardware was the cause of the latency issues. This solved nothing.

At the end of our contract, our salesperson told us that the software would continue to function, but support would be terminated. This was a lie. The software was restricted to read-only mode and we were locked out of our data. We were then given the option of paying a $275 reinstatement fee, plus increased monthly fees to get the software up and running on our own server again. This was the last straw and we migrated to a much better solution.

Abacus is an outdated system that requires significant upkeep. The hardware requirements are not included in their pricing model. Their hosted solution was also garbage, as it failed to integrate with the local programs. Their software is incredible slow and simple tasks (such as printing an invoice) takes 5-10 minutes to accomplish.

I would stay away from this product at all costs. One final warning, because their system is so outdated, once you start entering data, it cannot be exported to be migrated to a new system. Their poor design forces you to remain on their system or feel the pain of a weeks long migration system. Again, stay away from this outdated system at all costs.

Recommendations to other buyers: Do not purchase this software. Their database cannot be migrated. The system will crash and you will lose data. There are numerous other solutions that are available at much cheaper costs.

Cons: APC is a problematical environment to have to work in all day. Abacus Law and especially Abacus Accounting are primitive, highly inefficient.

Overall: Abacus Law in the Abacus Private Cloud is the 4th practice management software that I have used over the past 20 years. Far and away is the worst experience that I have had with practice management software. Many everyday functions take multiple steps where they need only take one. Some features, especially search features, just don't work. In two years I have seen no meaningful improvements in the software. Abacus makes its real money selling you their cloud services and once you commit to putting your data on their Cloud, it gets very hard to move away. I considered transitioning to Amicus Attorney because Abacus has recently merged with Amicus and I was assured for months that a migration was doable, only to learn months later that Abacus will not provide migration to Amicus. The two camps definitely have not gotten on the same page.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't get into a contract with Abacus.

Overall: Sometime in August 2016 I received an "end of life" notice for the credenza practice management program. This program supported by the makers of Abacus would end and of course you are prompted to buy Abacus Law and Abacus would migrate your data to the new platform. Well, I jumped on board in October 2016 and its been a nightmare ever since. My years of time keeping, billing and notes did not move completely over to the new program and Abacus has yet to resolve the problem. Moreover and equally frustrating, Credenza is disabled not just because the Abacus technician disabled it but also because the what notes I can discern on my computer indicate that the "add-in" will crash my system. I have been without a working practice management system for almost a month and Abacus can't seem to take the time to make my small law practice whole. Billing is behind and that is not a good place to be in for any business let alone a small one. I remain hopeful that my data is somewhere in my computer system. At this point, I am less than hopeful that this company cares enough to help me. Unbelievable!!

Cons: Recent updates have changed features for the worse. The company is pushing their cloud based software now that they just got venture capital funding and they seem to be slowing breaking down their desktop version.

Overall: I've used Abacus for over a decade. I've gotten pretty comfortable with the Law software and think it does a pretty good job, though it has many error messages and weird windows that open that you have to click through. It overall works okay. Accounting, however, really sucks. Accounting allows for certain functions (like batch invoicing) that just don't work very well. The customer support is local but they can have a bit of an attitude or will sometimes tell me that the software isn't perfect and I shouldn't expect too much.

Comments: I first purchased the gold edition of Abacus two years ago and installed it locally. It had its quirks, but we were satisfied overall. A few months in, though, it started crashing frequently during billing and time entry--every 4-5 time tickets and every 3-4 bills rendered. We spent more time re-starting the software than it took to render all of our bills. Abacus IT couldn't figure it out. Then it started to 'forget' the database location and we had to be on the phone with Abacus IT about once a week so they could fix it remotely.

When Abacus couldn't figure out why it kept crashing, they guessed it was an incompatibility issue with our brand-new server and suggested we move to Abacus Private Cloud. Sounded fine. They housed and maintained the hardware and we didn't need server IT. Of course, the price went up by 200%. Seemed like a fair trade-off at first.

Despite the representations as to stability and savings, it got worse. Our first billing run on APC crashed the software more frequently than it had on our own server. The next billing run was worse. It crashed after nearly every generated bill. At best the software would crash fewer than two dozen times during a billing run, no matter what IT tried to do. Finally, they just blamed it on us. It hasn't been fixed entirely to this day.

To add insult to injury, we were told out of the blue that our virtual server was running low on storage space. We removed everything we could think of that we'd put on it and it still ran low. Abacus billed us for additional storage space despite our efforts, without explanation as to where the issue lay or any attempts to help. E-mails to IT were met with silence.

Barring some sort of miracle, I cannot wait until our contract is up so I can cancel the agreement. It's ludicrously expensive for what it is and how often it fails to work, and all of the time spent with IT has cost more work hours than I want to admit. It's clunky, quirky, crashes frequently, and the software is unstable no matter which platform or hardware is in use. And buyer beware--Abacus doesn't guarantee the software will work and the cancellation penalty is essentially the equivalent of the value of your remaining contract.

I am extremely unhappy with Abacus and feel like I was misled on the initial purchase, and misled again when told that switching everything to the cloud would improve stability.

Comments: The reality seems to be that to ensure continued profits monthly service fees were created. Very little benefits to consumers of the product came to life. More problems and less productivity. More costs less benefits. Not that long ago - 10 years I worked in a firm that insisted on continued use of DOS. The amazing benefit is it always worked. Since going to the monthly program Abacus has never worked correctly. I don't have the time to always call and make it work like it is supposed to. I get a lot less than when i simply bought the program. I do want it to work but it does not. 40 minutes with tech support and unfortunately the tech really has no idea what to do. Instead of working i am inputting this on my other computer while hearing words that make no sense. Good luck to this tech. It must be frustrating for him as well.

Comments: I used Abacus for over 15 years. I used their old CD based system with no problems for Case Management, but not billing or accounting. When they would no longer support the CD version, they forced me to go to their web based version. The price increased exponentially and was prohibitive for my solo practice. However, having used it for so many years, I was hesitant to give it up and lose the ability to access old client records on all computers. Their billing software is awful. Clients could not understand the bills and we received numerous complaints of its trust accounting reports on the bills. We had to stop after three months.

When we called in for support and finally got a call back, the technician was rude and actually insulted my office manager. They were no help at all and they actually told us that they were more interested in their new ventures into cloud computing than law firm case management.

We had to give up and now they have turned me over to collection asking for over $5000.00 in early cancellation fees.

I attended Dean's webinar on Mail Merge in Abacus on Wednesday on 12/16/2015, which was great, and a real informative webinar, that was well planned, easy to follow, and full of useful information. However, I am writing this email to acknowledge what Dean did for me afterwards. After the webinar, I had emailed Dean asking if he could help me create a query to generate a client list, (past, and current), that have an email address, with their phone number's and if he could help me make a excel spreadsheet with this information, which was not something my employer had paid for, but we desperately needed. She had been asking me to generate this list for the past two weeks, and despite my endless attempts, I could not figure out how to generate a query that would do this correctly. Within minutes Dean had generated a query, showed me how to use it, how to modify it, and how Abacus could assist our office in the future to generate letters, emails and help turn potential leads into paying clients. I was amazed, and so completely grateful, I joked with him that he single handily may have saved my job!

I had to take this time to send this email because it is not often that I come across someone that is so good at their job, not to mention completely dedicated, with such excellent customer service skills. I will be recommending to the attorney I work for that we attend more webinars, and utilize Abacus and all its features for her practice, and as a tool to run a smooth, successful law firm.

Comments: Having been a solid Abacus user since 2007 (and used it to do a multi-state practice), I took the plunge the moment Abacus Private Cloud came on line. As one of the folks on the "maiden voyage" there were some initial rough seas --- which now (speaking from the past 18 months of cloud occupancy), have totally smoothed out. I CANNOT and will not be without this software.

Anyone attempting to be a "virtual lawyer" needs this program and this platform. My office is anywhere I have wifi. My multi-state, multi-county, multi-circuit practice is possible because of this piece of technology. I can walk into a courtroom with 10 cases in a row to do, and not carry a piece of paper - everything is organized in my Abacus... if the Judge forgets what happened at the last hearing, the case notes and prior Order are there at my finger tips. Press another key, and the order or memo gets sent to everyone's tablet, computer or phone in the courtroom. It makes me look smarter - and more organized -- that I am.

All this would be for nada if not for the customer service (I work late, and weekends... and they answer calls at that time). Also, having forms tailor-made for my niche practice is a professional service they offer, much cheaper than I can train staff to do it. I have so much more I can be doing with Abacus that i don't do (trust accounting, calendar causing forms to generate at proper times, mass mail merges, etc), but I'll get to it in time. BOB

Comments: For the last 20 months my entire law office has been run on Abacus Private Cloud. It has worked flawlessly, with great, responsive, USA-based tech support (for set up issues and as needed thereafter).

APC enabled me to put my entire law office into a private cloud environment, in an industrial data center custom-built solely for this purpose, dedicated to the legal profession, and managed by top-notch professionals in the data center industry; this is something I could never have achieved on my own, or through another vendor.

The benefits to my law practice from Abacus Private Cloud are:
- - My data is secure and safe in the Abacus Private Cloud data center. No more local data backups, because all data is on the private cloud server, and is backed up there.
- - My local equipment costs are drastically lower than before I switched to a private cloud. I eliminated the three desktop computers that I was previously accessing remotely.
- - I don¿t need costly application software on each local access device. All law office applications can be run on the private cloud server, not on local hardware. The local devices are there simply to display and interact with the private cloud server.
- - My private cloud server can run any software, whether related to Abacus or not. Therefore, I can run the application software that my meets the specific needs of my law practice, regardless of the vendor.
- - My local IT and tech support costs are $0.
- - My staff and I have become totally mobile, without sacrificing efficiency. This means that each employee, as needed, can work on their own schedule, and from any location with cell phone coverage, electricity, and an Internet connection. This creates a flexible, modern, and dynamic work environment, resulting in a better quality of life, happier attorneys and staff, and a better work vs. life balance for all involved.

Comments: I couldn't practice without it! I made the switch from My Case to Abacus Law, and started using their cloud service as well. This is a much more in depth program and it can handle everything I need it to. It took a while to learn, but they have amazing training and support. Now that I have the hang of it, and got it setup, it's a breeze. It's integrated with everything I need and I'm totally mobile. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

Comments: As a user for over 10 years I think the software is great at what it does. If a matter centric system isn't how you practice this software is not for you. Correct if your practice is client centric you will be frustrated and it will not work for you. In terms of accounting I have abandoned the payroll module and still have days when I wish they would integrate with Quickbooks.
Customer service is great with most issues solved in minutes by letting the tech access the system and fix it. Still change is slow, still waiting to integrate with google calendar. Abacus and outlook play well together as long as you use 32 bit and not 64 bit.

Comments: Maybe you can't teach an old dog new tricks, cause this old dog has had it with Abacus. I'm sure it's a great program if you have in-house IT staff and your attorneys and staff have loads of free time to learn this user-unfriendly program. I also was hesitant to switch to my I phone, but love it since it is "intuitive" and you can figure out many features on your own. Abacus is counter-intuitive and I wasted lots of Staff and Attorney time trying to integrate it into my practice.

Comments: 1. Most difficult software to learn. But it's everything that I love---after I learned it.
2. Too expensive to upgrade to the Cloud version. :(
3. Keeps me organized and couldn't run without it.
4. With the growth in my business and the need for a Cloud version, I am shopping around for a new company. (I really wish I could stay with Abacus, but the cost is too much)

Comments: With 250,000 users they must be doing something right! I suspect that those of us without issues don't bother to comment. It makes sense that if you have had a problem then you squawk about it. I know I do!

Our firm has been using this product for over eight years. In recommending it to another firm I came across these reviews. I could not disagree more. Like any system it takes some training. We hired an outside instructor to come in for two days to train. Once we got the basics down we grew with it. The nice feature it comes with is that every time you log in, it gives you tips for the day that expand your knowledge or remind you of something you may have fogotten.

The features that I appreciate most are linking your emails from Outlook to the matters file. That is an enormous time saver. The notes file is likewise extremely useful in refreshing your memory on things that have transpired. Both come with a preview of the content similar to your email.

It makes life easy and certain with the current forms embedded for civil matters and court forms.
The home screen might not be as pretty as some but it is very simple to understand and use. Documents get scanned and saved to the matters file with ease. Overall there is nothing about our personal I jury cases I can't put my hands on quickly. And remotely when I am out of the office.

Some have complained about customer service. I guess that is a universal complaint we all have with almost software company. But honestly, when our IT guy gets on the phone with them and they speak the same language, we have never had a problem.

I could not run our firm without Abacus.

Comments: First, beware the hidden fees. Second, beware the horrible customer service. Be prepared for big promises with no delivery. It's not worth the headache. Beware the longterm contract. All the case management systems worth their weight require no longterm contract. User interface is terrible.

Comments: I am a very frustrated customer. I like the program. It is easy to use. I have had no problem integrating it with outlook calendars. However, I am a monthly auto credit card payer. My credit card info hasn't changed in months. I have received repeated unpaid notices and suspension notices over a $63.00 monthly fee that was simply never auto debited by AbacusLaw. I have called at least 6 times. I have emailed the billing department. I have never gotten anyone to answer any of any of the telephone numbers and no one has ever returned my call. I am on auto pay and my account info has not changed and my account has always had more than sufficient funds. Now AbacusLaw has suspended my account and demands another $250.00 to get it reinstated because no one will answer the phone or return my call. I can't begin to tell you how frustrating this is.

Comments: 20 years ago, this was a cutting edge, full feature case management powerhouse. over time, it has become bloated, buggy, and well, just plain bad. outlook integration is a joke. one of the ugliest interfaces in the industry. customizations? great when they work. when they work. customer support? good luck with that. a firm that once catered to law firms and their needs now is laser focued on what works for abacus (engage a business partner like hotdocs or the bat or uptime at risk of abandonment a year or two down the road) . clients be damned abacus will lead its customers down countless false paths and leave them hanging/unsupported. good luck with that.

Comments: Abacus program has many different useful functions in its program. Unfortunately, the program does not work how it presented and is difficult to use. The training videos were also not helpful in learning how to use the system. There is also so many different ways you can input the same information which causes problems when each avenue of inputting the information does not require you to put in the same information. This leaves files, names, cases with missing information one to another and are not uniformly the same . So we had come up with one way to do it so all the clients and cases had the same information. In addition to just about every day someone in the office has an error with the program that shuts the entire program down. We have called customer support multiple times, each time we are on the phone with them for a minimum of 30 minutes in addition to everyone in the office needing to shut down the program. Ultimately losing productivity, not being able to see our information we have saved to the program and wasting our time. Customer Support just wants to blame our systems and won't take any responsibility for their program. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Comments: From a functional perspective this software has a number of bells and whistles that any law firm would desire. The product has issues running over a wide area network so if you have multiple offices and want a common database beware, performace is marginal at best.The con is the company itself and how they deal with customer. Specifically they tell you one thing, take your money, and then do not follow through on their commitment. Once they have you they you are stuck unless you pay to get away from the company. Not a company that we choose to do business with after being a good customer for over18 years.
