Pros
It just works, the ease of use is KEY. People who have not even been using it that long feel comfortable in the system.
There are rarely outages or downtime, and we've been using it for 5 years now.
Cons
I wish the time tracking worked more like harvest http://www.getharvest.com
For some people they crave gantt charts, and it doesn't have those, but that is fine with me.
They don't innovate as often as I'd like to see, but they sure do make sure the product is rock solid.
Overall
I have on several occasions looked at other similar software products on the market, and I'll say every time I stick with basecamp.

Pros
- Super easy to use.
- Clients find their way around easily and LOVE the simple organization of it all. They feel like they are on the "inside."
- Scalable to the number of open projects your company needs (and can afford) to have open at a time
- Past projects are archived
- There are numerous iPad and iPhone apps that access your basecamp info allowing you to work on the run
- Allows for private communications between internal team members so that ideas/messages can be kept with project but not be seen by client
- AFFORDABLE!!
- Is essentially white labelled so that you brand your interface with your company logo and colors.
- will show each team member their calendar of to dos
- will send automatic reminders prior to due dates
- can be set to automatically link to and populate your calendar with project milestones
Cons
- I would love to have more managerial reporting... the ability to track profitability, time budgets, expense budgets, etc. by project and/or by client.
Overall
We have found Basecamp invaluable both while working in a physical office space (primarily for client communications) and now in our virtual office setup (for both internal and external communications). Having all players on a team on one page with access to the same info at all times... no convincing needed. Basecamp brought sanity to our team.
