Pros: The ability to add features and apps to it. Like emoji's and custom responses. I also am a fan of having unique channels.

Cons: When it needs to update it just doesn't work but rarely lets you know, it needs an update. Also have trouble with notifications never going away.

Pros: How it has cracked down on unnecessary meetings. Also makes talking coworkers on different teams easier.

Cons: Sometimes it can take place of important meetings. Also some people use it at the "record of truth" instead of well documenting information.

Pros: The away messages, the integrations with Giphy and Trello, the consistency and reliability, the fact that it connects our remote team, the organization of it, the @ mentions, the trigger word alerts, the group DMs, the fact that you can "favorite" channels, the fact that you can mute channels

Cons: It takes longer to retrieve a wifi signal than other websites (it has a yellow bar that tells you it will try again in a min or so where you can click, "Reload now").

Overall: You can quickly chat through issues, update your team, or just connect with your team. You can organize your communications into different areas or topics. You can integrate it with other tools, which streamlines your communication and efforts.

Pros: It's easy to use and works on every device. They've really put thought into making it work for everyone. It's like IRC for the new century.

Pros: Ability to send screenshots, have different topic groups all in one location and from different user accounts! I can see work and personal in one place!

Cons: Paid version and free version have huge differences - for example the history tracking. I think you get more if you have the paid version. Otherwise it goes way about a fairly short period of time.

Overall: I use it to connect with other Salesforce User Group leaders and my company uses it internally.

Pros: I love that it's minamalist, easy to search and organize. But my favorite thing is the ability to react to other people's posts, or even to add your own emojies :)

Cons: I wish it were accessible by phone without the mobile app. There are times that I need to access Slack instantly via a browser. I do not always want to download another app, so I would appreciate being able to access it by web without downloading it.

Overall: I've been able to keep my work flow organized and community with all of my team members in a manageable way. It's great to be able to share just about anything on Slack. I don't know of a better messaging platform. It's very intuitive.

Pros: As a global company, we have team members from all over the world, so communicating through long chains of emails is not efficient, and guarantees that information gets lost. Slack helps us contain everything in related channels and acts as an organized chat tool for teams that work remotely. It has become the central hub of our workflow.

Cons: The weakness in slack is that once you have too many channels, it is easy to lose conversations. There are moments when I spend a good couple of minutes sifting through channels, trying to find the right post. Also, I often avoid clicking on Slack notifications on my phone. Even though I would like to know the entirety of the post, I don't want to lose it in one of our many channels once it has been "marked as read." Slack has greatly improved our team's productivity, but there are still many improvements they could make.

Overall: We are a lot more efficient and can communicate quickly and clearly with each other.

Pros: Using slack for our small business kept our remote team together, and prevented us using Facebook messenger. That in itself was very useful as Facebook's entire goal is to get you to be distracted by stuff on your timeline and react to people's posts. Slack is also very easy to get started, and you can search all your existing chat history.

Cons: Nothing much, but I suppose the fact that if our team scales significantly we'll have to pay something to use it but that's very normal. No real complaints.

Pros: Simplistic interface. Easy to share files. I like the mobile app too as it works just as easily.

Cons: We always end up with too many channels which makes it difficult to find threads of conversations. Would really like to see at least one level of organization of the channels - the ability to group channels into an analogous 'folder'.

Pros: Slack is versatile, easy-to-use, and fun! The ability to hook into Slack's api makes it a tool you can use to support communication in any group independent of size, industry, or location.

Cons: If you are not careful, Slack can consume all of you time in communication limiting your time doing constructive billable work.

Overall: Easy multilayered communication that is almost fully customizable and ever improving.

Pros: The ability to split conversations into channels, private messaging, the archive and search functions, the ability to drag and drop files to share

Cons: It's a little clunky to archive channels and to move a private conversation to a new channel. Using Slackline to create conversations across organizations or teams is too expensive.

Overall: Streamlined communication, clarity for the team on when things are laidback and friendly and when they are more professionally focused (via the #channels), easy access to frequently sought information, more efficient answers to those quick questions that really shouldn't require an email

Pros: This software is one of the best collaboration tools that I've used. It is easy to adapt to our needs, add new team members, create customized "groups" for discussions, and keep a history of our conversations which is searchable.

Cons: The only small request I have is a "media" or "uploads" area that would show all files that have been uploaded to Slack. We often get lots of screenshots added to our conversations, and the ability to see them all at once would be very useful. Otherwise, this product exceeds my expectations!

Overall: - Easier team collaboration with instant results.
- Cut project-related email volume in half when implemented.

Pros: Quick and easy to communicate with colleagues, able to upload files and documents quickly, and being able to create threads or channels for communication

Cons: The only downside is that we can't get everyone on our team to use it (really the older folks who aren't used to messaging platforms like this); it's also inconvenient that after so many messages, the olders ones are deleted. This makes it inconvenient for us to send important files we may need again later...we have to email or send a server file path for fear of losing it later, even though it's more convenient to send a quick Slack message

Cons: The effort of muting the alerts when I'm not working / taking a day off. However, that said, I don't think there's a way of making it any easier! I think I'm just lazy.

Overall: Easy communication & collaboration with colleagues & team members! Also easy to share ideas and keep track of tasks.

Pros: The ability for everyone in multiple satellite offices to communicate via text, as well as audio and video calling, is unmatched by a single platform.

Cons: The number of features that make up its engaging format can also cause distractions among the team. That's in no way the fault of Slack (and much more of an indictment of the project team), but I have to pick something!

Pros: It's simple and straight-forward to use the basic features - just chatting in channels - but offers a whole host of advanced features and integrations to help you get the most out of it.

Cons: There doesn't seem to be one login under which all your Slack accounts are tied, so when you join a new "Slack" you have to go through the process of adding it to across all your clients (browse, desktop, mobile, etc).

Pros: 1) The search feature on this software searches for the keyword in the message body, message sender, and also in the message board. So if you want to find a password that you shared in the app a while back, you can search the keywords of the credentials and find them instantly.
2) Flexible integrations. Currently on our teams slack account, we have automated messages coming from Calendly, Asana, and Trello any time there are changes on a task or a new client signs up for a meeting on our calendar.

Cons: After you go over a limit of certain messages on each board, you are greeted with a message saying that you cannot access your previous messages unless you upgrade your account to the premium package. This is a HUGE issue mainly because our team has extremely valuable information in our old messages that we can no longer view because we didnt upgrade.

Overall: This tool is essentially our all-in-one C-level communication app. We get ALL of our companies updates through this tool

Ability to separate out into different threads as well as different communities
Easy setup for the first community and threads

Cons: Adding a second community that you have been invited to is a bit trickier -- you can't just click on the link in the e-mail or it will try to set up a new Slack account. Once you know that you just add the community when you are already in Slack, it's easy.

Overall: We use this to coordinate and communicate with folks who are physically distant.

Pros: It's easy to use and fluid, so everyone downloads and gets going quickly. You can organize folders and communications (though this gets odd depending on the organizational skills of the person creating these) somewhat well, and it's better than the old, management via email.

Cons: When used in my experiences with companies, it's still like email. There's messages everywhere, it's hard to separate chatter from relevant info, and it piles up like email. Many users get lost, or it gets too chatty. Managed correctly, Slack can be good, but without guiding users and giving them clear boundaries, it often quickly mires into chaos.

Notice I still rank it highly, because with the right leadership, it's a great tool. Still, you shouldn't have to require this for such a tool to be used.

Overall: I'm able to move startups and small teams within companies into one environment to create and manage projects within the company. As my teams are required to participate and follow certain guidelines, Slack allows us to execute well.

Pros: The functionality is so simple yet robust. It allows my entire team to communicate in a platform that doesn't clog up my email box and doesn't require text messages. Best of all, I can tag messages and make them easier to search for at a later date. Recently Slack added the ability to make phone calls, while the system is still a little buggy in that sense, it really opens the doors down the road.

I recently integrated a burner app and evernote with one of my slack channels to make it easier for customers to communicate with us. I'm super impressed by the ease in which it was to set it up.

Cons: The software is a little buggy and sometimes freezes and has to be reboot at the most in opportune times.

Pros: We currently use the free version of Slack, but it has been a great communication tool for our company! It is easy to use, and you can setup alerts on your phone. It is great for a quick message to a coworker when an email may not be necessary. I had it integrated with Trello in order to receive Slack alerts when I had a Trello Due Date setup.

Cons: I don't like that it doesn't keep a history of chats. It disappears randomly, and often quickly. I believe a paid plan would solve this issue though!

Cons: I think it could have a more intuitive interface, some times you get overwhelmed with the amount of information. would be nice to have a better way to manager.

Pros: There is no learning curve for people who just want to use it for messaging. The additional add-ons and features are icing on the cake (giphy integration, todoist, github etc). I can use it across all of my devices and quickly do what I need to do.

Cons: Love the new status feature but wish that it was easier to set on mobile devices.

Pros: It's a great chat app, love the drag and drop features as well as the amazing search capabilities. We use it daily to communicate with users between different states and zip codes. Helps to keep on track with our projects.

Cons: Working to figure out proper integration with everything else we use. If it fully worked within our Redbooth software it would be a 100%. But I know that's more targeted to specific users and not a huge deal.

Pros: It's easy to use, it's very powerful, it offers a ton of great integrations with all of the other services we use, it keeps getting more features and functionality added regularly, it has a very functional Linux client, it's fun and enjoyable to engage with.

Cons: Sometimes it helps productivity and communication in many ways by consolidating it all in one place, but other times it saps productivity by making it too easy to get mired down in conversations often unrelated to the task at hand. It's not Slack's fault necessarily, and there are some tools in place to try and help, but it's easy to get caught up "using Slack" in some way instead of getting more work done.

Overall: Previously, we had email, Hangouts, physical office pop-ins, and a slew of other methods of communication-fighting for our attention. In the case of email, things were getting lost because team communication was getting mixed in with newsletters and another automated email, and was unrelated to the chats we were having in other systems. Now, just about everything we discuss is either in Slack or integrated with Slack, and it's searchable and shareable and all of that off-the-cuff knowledge people share no longer simply gets lost. Our team is much better off with Slack!

Pros: Makes communicating and sharing code so much easier specially when working with people at different locations. We also use it for when we outsource projects to communicate with other teams.

Pros: The channels make it easy to condense communication in one easy-to-find location. Shortcuts make it easy to operate within the tool. UX is great!

Cons: Inability to quickly create a multi-people chat with shortcuts. Formatting in the chat message forces to clear formatting elsewhere and then post the poll code in Slack.

Overall: Much improved and easier communication and collaboration on work items.

- And, it was free to get started with.

Cons: - If you don't pay, then your older messages and conversations get deleted.

Pros: Windows app is clean, intuitive, and easy to use.

Synchronization between windows app and android app is great. I like the fact when I am logged into slack on Windows and have it on, it does not do an alert on my android but when I log off from the Windows app, it does. It works really well and a great feature because I am only notified when necessary.

I really enjoy using the giphy integration for the app as well, it makes my collaboration with my co-workers much more interesting than words and standard smileys.

Cons: I am not sure if this might be a feature that exists and I just do not know about it but there is no ability to add additional users to a direct message conversation. I have to make sure I include everyone that's relevant the first time when starting the direct message for one-off discussion topics where it does not make sense for me to create a channel.

Overall: A nice, clean, collaboration platform that has a lot of possibilities especially with the myriad of app integrations that could be done to it.

Pros: Keeping department communication open and synced

Smartphone apps keep everyone online

Cons: the desktop app could be a little prettier and the chat screen could use some polishing
the price could be cheaper

Overall: I am the owner of a small business with 25 staff members. Staying organized and keeping communication open between all departments was a nightmare until Slack, originally we used email, facebook messenger, and sms with no way to make sure everyone had the info they needed and no real easy way to search back past conversations to find needed data. Slack fixed all of those issues by giving us the ability to log all communications and easily label them per the topic or department they belonged to. The smartphone apps were amazing for our out of office sales reps. This is a must have for any company

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the time to properly build the separate department and topic chat rooms and tags at the beginning of using slack

Comments: We moved from hipchat to slackchat a while back and love it! It's lots of fun to have separate channels for work/play, programmable responses via slackbot, and extra fun with giphy inserts. Sending docs and searching history are great, too. It's useful but crashes often.

Pros: Ease of use, Addons and script compatibility.

Cons: N/A

Overall: Introduced this product into my usual team-project workflow for easy communication between members. It was quickly picked up by all teams and within a matter of weeks it had become a staple of communication.

The ability to split into private and public channels to easily manage different project areas with invaluable and the added bot/script compatibility helped immensely and will be used more in the coming future.

A recommended tool for any team willing to enter the social-media era.

Pros: Everything!

Cons: Nothing, so far!

Overall: Our team initially used another service, which was okay, but not as organized as Slack! Slack allows you to organize different rooms (public/private) per your departments or preferences. You can also send direct messages, and video chat, if needed. Invitations can be sent to people that you'd like to become apart of your Slack community. You can pin important posts/files/etc. for members to be able to easily access and view and/or download. So, it's a real game changer for those companies seeking better communication tools for a remote work environment.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try it before you buy, always!

Comments: Slack is definitely the the most feature packed and easy to use of all the chat tools out there. If you're looking for chat, Slack is your answer. Pros: Centralized platform for project and team management.

Cons: Can be distracting if you're not careful.

Overall: Really easy way to centrally manage all projects and follow progress of team members. Because of the tagging and metadata, is a powerful platform where you can do virtually everything.

Unfortunately, our users began to suffer from slack creep, where you end up incessantly checking slack, instead of doing work. Plus, most people have notifications enabled, which means you get pinged with notifications anytime people post things to you, which is a massive distraction.

These are people problems, rather than with the software, but you've been warned. The software itself is great.

Comments: We introduced Slack into our studio to cut down on emails and enable quick chat-like conversations. Slack works perfectly for this and all staff make use of it daily. We make use of the channels feature for specific projects or topics, and there's been no shortage of banter in the #townsquare thread.

One draw-back we found with the free account was the speed with which older messages disappeared. Was slightly frustrating when we wanted to go back a reviews some comments from a few days back, and they were gone - but that's their business modal and needed to start paying to get the full archive of messaging.

Comments: Slack is a smart tool, perfect to connect with your team. At our company, we have different sites all around the world, yet, we all feel closely connected thanks to slack. It is well organized, making it simple to create public or private channels, (with a specific purpose), private groups or direct messages. There's a variety of integrations. Some, add personality to your messages (like emojis and gifs) and others are really useful in work-related topics, speeding up processes and helping you manage your time more efficiently (reminders, gDocs, etc). The messages are archived, and searching for them is pretty easy. There new "Threads" feature makes the messaging experience even better. It avoids spamming the channels. It also has voice calls.
