Comments: Overall it is a nice tool. The features it offers are nice. However, I find it a bit clunky to navigate and sometimes it can become a mess with all your tasks and sub tasks. I found that setting up views helped, but I wish the default was a little better. I also wish it was a little easier to make updates in a fast pace environment. Even with WorkFront available, I find myself putting my notes in Microsoft OneNote more often as I can get that done much quicker. I then transfer my notes over to Workfront or I include a link to the OneNote in my Workfront project notes.

I will be using the mobile version soon, maybe that will take care of some of my concerns. I also gave 5 stars for customer support and value for money as that is handled at a higher level than I am currently at and can't accurately speak to those two.

Cons: Capacity planning (the Java parts) should be improved. Also, notification management is a bit confusing...

Overall: It's great for tracking project progress, work breakdown structure, integration with timesheets features, collaboration, online availability. Simply very good.

Pros: Very robust. Highly customizable.

Cons: Not user-friendly. Not quick to get up and running.

Overall: This system required extensive setup and training in order to get it up and running. It was not user-friendly but it had a lot of features to meet our needs.

Comments: I don't honestly think there's anything to terribly special about WorkFront. I'm glad we have it, but it involves a lot of set up and standardization in our work group. There are a lot of different ways to complete the same task, which can be great, but it also means you have to make a lot of decisions about how you and your company want to use it. It's definitely not an out of the box solution and that's what I'd personally prefer.

Implementation transformed data collection, collaboration and business insights delivery across the organization. Recommend professional consulting services for more complex organizations to ensure integration with existing tools (BI).

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Only as good ad the person managing the projects.

Overall: It allows us to apply out time specifically to individual projects we are working on. We can also add projects into the application, assign teams and give status for the projects. Can also insert and update deadlines or extend the deadlines.

Recommendations to other buyers: Provide training to users.

Comments: We started our PMO in 2009, needing a way to get a handle on our project intake and help define our project management methodology. We purchased Workfront (formerly AtTask) back then and have been happily using it ever since. The initial implementation was quick. Getting the system configured and putting users in there was the easy part. Being a new PMO and going through the motions of defining our process was the hard part. Workfront made it a little easier because allowed us to have a starting point and the basis of best practices. The tool is easy to use, so flexible, and has really improved the way we work. Its been so effective for us at the University that usage has expanded from just our Technology department to 5 other groups and that number keeps on growing. The technical support has been great when we needed it, the company has listened to customer's suggestions as well as trends in the industry, and the adoption for the tool has been steady, really becoming an essential tool for every day work. There are many PPM tools out there, all doing much of the same core functions, but Workfront has the edge when it comes to usability. Things in the software just make sense, and work. Its that simple.
Pros - The system is highly configurable, can match your process and methodology - usability is top notch. The user interface makes sense and is easy to get used to - if you've thought about it, its probably in the software. If its not, you can request it and be sure that the company is listening and it might make it into the next release. - manages much more than just projects, it manages all of your stuff.
Cons - The company has gone through immense growth in the last 6 years so there has been instability in our customer support success manager, (not the technical support). We've had several different of these account managers over the years. - the license price changed as the software grew and caught us off guard (although the company was great and negotiated with us and was very accommodating - there is an API that allows you to connect and integrate other software into the tool, which is great, but there isn't great documentation or training on how to do it for beginners.

Comments: Working in an in-house marketing department, we have been using Workfront for three years to manage our projects and operations. We need overall visibility on all the activities of our department, plus a powerful collaboration platform.

Our main aim using Workfront is to manage the capacity vs workload of our department and to be able to forecast the demand.

Workfront is fulfilling our basic needs, but we feel that there is a lack of ability to create clear dashboards or to have a better visibility of critical task between multiple projects at the same time (which happens when several campaigns overlap).

There are other points to improve (see Cons below), but it seems that folks at Workfront are committed to improve those areas and correct the product weaknesses.

PROS:

Logging hours is not painful, there are several choices to input them.

The collaboration features are very good: comments, sharing if documents, approvals...

Work requests via assignments are clear and provide accountability.

Integrated document proofing and versioning is a must for any creative department and this one works really well.

Workfront support is quick and responses are elaborated, always providing a workaround if there isn't a functionality to match your need.

CONS:

Reporting is a bit limited; while basic reporting is completely fulfilled and you can present the information in clear graphs, when you try to create complex relations (historic vs forecast, capacity vs demand) things get more complicated, there are limitations and you need workarounds to obtain the desired (or closest to the desired) information.

Sharing of information is cumbersome; although you can send automatic reports by email, it's difficult to distribute more elaborated pieces of information.

Resource management is limited; there are tools in the system, but they are not intuitive and are a legacy of previous versions of the system.

Learning curve is steep, it doesn't take much time to get familiarised with the common request-collaborate actions (which most of the users will do), but it needs much time and training to carry out actual project management processes within the system.

Comments: Pros: easy set up, flexible to accommodate our processes, great reporting capability, and super responsive to our issues and feature requests

Cons: regular updates occasionally break a feature (they try and fix major breakages immediately if it affects many people in a critical manner; some minor features have been broken for months now), reports often only capable of showing raw data (pie charts and bar charts not as customizable as we would like)

Details: we find that we have an easier time in Workfront when we're sure of the process we're trying to translate into the system. When people are not quite sure "who has the ball, " or what they really want, it really shows. Your system is only as good as your understanding of your process.

Comments: Workfront offers one solution that caters for nearly any issue you want to tackle in your organisation. Ranging from the basics of project management, issue tracking, change requests, process alignment, program management, ... . Looking for something that's not available in Workfront would be a hard nut to crack.
We've been using the Workfront for a couple of years now and the product keeps adapting features requested by the user community as well as upgrading their existing features continuously.

As a possible minus, I would have said the way permissions are handled. However a couple of months back with the new release this small point was resolved as well with a new and far easier way to set things up and have the project owners / users handle access on their projects in an easy, non admin intensive way. So I guess I just turned the thing I liked least into a plus as well.

Workfront offers a quick and to the point customer support. Additionaly the Workfront consultants are always available to be scheduled and during the scheduled session they interactively help you on the right path with any issue you might encounter. Definitely one of the better customer support teams/ setup around these days.

I'd recommend anyone looking into Workfront to start with the basics when evaluating the product and add/integrate features in your processes as you need them. Contact Workfront as soon as you're even thinking on exploring the options. You'll be able to play around in a sandbox environment in no time and the system is pretty much self-explanatory.

Comments: I've used Workfront for about 2 years now and I can't say enough about the platform. It's very flexible, detailed and powerful. Also, they are also always developing the platform further, recently releasing a new DAM. That being said, it's not easy to just pick up, but once you get good at it, it can really give you a better hold of your projects and work flows.

Comments: If you struggle to maintain organized projects, you're not alone.
Many people don't know how to successfully manage projects. Even after you learn how
to do it, sometimes you fight the tools to get the job done. Workfront makes it easy.
I just add tasks to a project (or use a template) and mark off the tasks as I go. I actually work with team members worldwide and they mark off their tasks as they go. What could be easier? I can see the progress, see if task due dates slip and spend my time keeping things on track instead of fighting a complicated system or searching through my emails for an update from someone that's half a world away.

Our company starting using it 4 years ago. We went from not knowing what projects were actually being worked on, to knowing the daily status of all of them, worldwide, at any given moment! The improved communication helps us focus on the things that are most important. Thanks Workfront!

Comments: I have been part of the core team implementing the system into our European marketing department for over a year and a half. We have over 120 users in Europe and after having successfully implementing and using the system for a number of months we are now moving to one global instance of the system. I have been involved throughout in implementation and training of the team.

Pros:
Central visibility of all marketing activity progress and status updates
¿ Collaboration between teams regardless of location
¿ Complete workflow/campaign management from initiation to completion
¿ Accurately manage, allocate and track resource
¿ Enables multiple stakeholders to review and approve campaigns
¿ Online proofing tool - all requested changes are in one place
¿Great training provided
¿Intuitive

Cons:
¿Regular system updates have sometimes caused us issues and have meant we have needed to change ways of working as the way the system works has changed. These are usually small changes that would probably be improvements to other users, but sometimes for us they have made life more difficult.

It is easy to learn the basics and simple to use. The interface is clean and works very well in any setting. The customization of reports and views are key differentiators as well as they have some amazing people who are genuine and want the best for you.

Cons
1) The amount of information and customization can be overwhelming if your foundation is not well established.
2) The agile storyboard and process lack intuitiveness and can be difficult for a new user. however, I have been assured this will be changed.

Conclusion:
Since there are an enormous amount of options with this solution, it is important to know your requirements and processes. Once done then stick with a foundation and add additional functionalities afterwards.

Comments: Workfront has the capability to be a simple work management system, or a robust PPM collaborating work among hundreds or thousands of team members. Trek started with a small implementation on one team and usage has organically expanded to hundreds of users as it became obvious that instant global project visibility is far superior to the old way of managing - inboxes filled with emails and spreadsheets. We now use the system to develop all of our products worldwide, manage quality, coordinate with partners, and to track the progress of all our marketing and promotional efforts.

Trek has used nearly every facet of the system with the exception of two items. The Resource Management elements are not needed for the way we work and very few teams use the system to track time.

In the past when Workfront was a much smaller company, customer support was slow and bug fixes seemed to drag out. I work with customer support at Workfront every day and can attest that they have immensely improved performance on all levels. Bug fixes and new features roll out at a steady stream and customer support is more knowledgeable and more communicative than ever.

Comments: We have been using Workfront for over a year and the tool is great. It allows us a global view of all projects across teams in the IT area.

We know which teams are backlogged, which individuals are over allocated and who can do some more tasks.

The tasks approvals workflows and keeping all documents in place is great also.

I would recommend using this project for project management across business areas. Our Marketing teams are also using the tool and we are bringing on more teams in the immediate future.

Their service is great and their consultants really work to ensure the product is configured to meet your needs.

Comments: We have been implementing Workfront within our European Marketing function for around 12-18 months now.
After evaluating a number of options we decided on Workfront as a replacement for a number of different software packages we used for specific functions, such as MS Access for budget management, MS Project for planning, and a bespoke system for raising requests.
The key benefits of Workfront for us are that it is one solution in one place for everyone, and we can all follow a common practice.
Projects can be planned, allocated and managed in one place, with visibility for all stakeholders.
From a personal point of view the downsides for me are that some of the functionality doesn't work as expected. I have had repeated issues with importing existing MS Project plans in, even using the dedicated import tool.
I would also like to see added functionality such as an "Undo" button, and also the option to track the impact of changes to a production plan before committing them.
In the next 12 months we are aiming to roll this out globally, which hopefully should improve the way we work even further.
I would definitely recommend Workfront as a solution, but would advise making sure everything you need is covered and works correctly.

Great all around Project Management tool with a lot of flexibility.

Comments: I've been our companies Workfront (formerly AtTask) admin for the past 4 years. I've seen the product grow and change quite a bit (for the better).

Pros: The interface is easy to use and very customizable and there are a lot of great features like resource allocation tracking, custom forms, team queues, robust security settings, and much more. There is a very active community site, great support, and they are constantly putting money back in to add new features and grow the product further.

Cons: Not really a con but the toolset is very vast and it isn't cheap so make sure your company can utilize a good portion of the feature set to make the investment worthwhile.

Overall Workfront is a great project management/time tracking tool with a lot of customization to fit almost any organization's management style. If used properly will allow you to budget time and resource better and give you a realtime look at the health of your projects

Comments: I have been working with Attask (Workfront) since 2011. The product has vastly improved since then.

Workfront is now ready for their next big leap of functionality - advanced reporting. I had the pleasure of talking with their lead developers whom recognized the efforts to change their core reporting structure tentatively by Spring 2016!

I believe the product to be so useful and addicting that the more experienced Workfront teams just want more and more functionality. Sometimes we wish for magic but Workfront is getting good at delivering the magic as well.

Comments: Pros: I like that Workfront is cloud based and very easy to use. Workfront provides collaboration on projects which is critical to a projects success. Workfront gives everyone high level visibility in their projects down to the smallest detail. No more spreadsheets for me!
Before purchasing Workfront, I reviewed about ten project management systems and Workfront was the only project management tool that could do what we needed. Very easy to use and the customer service & support is excellent. I use the reporting on a daily basis to give an overview of all project timelines so that they stay on schedule and meet the production completion date.
Cons: I really have nothing that I dislike about Workfront. They are improving the application throughout the year with maintenance updates and system upgrades. You also have an opportunity to submit a product idea to Workfront, once reviewed it could be implemented in their next upgrade.

Comments: AtTask is a great project management and workflow management tool. It also takes care of portfolio and program management as well, which are part of the project management ecosystem. This is where AtTask shines and where I would suggest it being implemented. If you're looking to go beyond those areas, it may be possible to implement AtTask, but you may want to look more towards another solution that specifically handles what you're working to solve. An example of this would be trying to use AtTask as a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool. Technically, you probably could shoehorn a CRM into AtTask, but that's not what it was designed to handle. You're better off using Salesforce or something similar in that scenario.

Comments: Overall Assessment
At-Task provides great project and progress visibility. The integration of common third party apps allows for easier adoption and integration to existing systems. At-Task's APIs offer ways for web and mobile apps interaction.

The absence of resource leveling across multiple projects was disappointing. The absence of a mobile app is a mild inconvenience.
I would prefer a method for running SQL queries in addition to the object-oriented reporting and view features. Despite the above issues, I think At-Task is a great product.

Pros
+ Great visibility of project status and progress.
+ Except for the absence of a mobile app, great document (SharePoint, Dropbox, Google Drive), change management (issue and task management) and collaboration capabilities (integrates with Email and uses in-app messaging)
+ Through At-Task APIs one may develop an app that talks to At-Task or integrate web app functionality for At-Task

Cons
- No Resource Leveling across multiple projects
- No mobile app (yet). Through At-Task APIs one may develop an app that talks to At-Task though

Well conceived UI/UX makes navigating around the product easy.
Quick entry tools helps users focus on capturing tasks/projects without having to spell it out on initial creation.
Social dynamic where others can comment and recognize others for a job well done helps users WANT to use the product.
Robust project templates make it easy to repeat best practices on new projects.
Excellent on-boarding/getting-started experience.

CONS:
The security/authorization features are too complex for most environments.
High cost of having external customers be able to "Work" temporarily on a project (requires work license).

Comments: Pros: AtTask is simple to use; constantly added new and valuable features, the customer service is fantastic for the most part;

Cons: There are many features; however, it is very limited as well. Companies may find that they have to adjust their processes in order to adopt the tool and this can be a bad thing sometimes.

Comments: We've been using at-task for approximately a year, and our impression is that its a good tool in many applications. We are in manufacturing, and have found a way to make it work; however we wish it was more automated. Right now its so user dependent that many of our workers levels of effort required to update tasks, cause adoption issues; however if you have a foundation to support change management this is a breeze comparatively.

Pros:
Nice interface, navigation is a breeze
Dashboards are amazing, and the most powerful tool of the software
Reports are so easy to create and customize, making status updates instant and easy
Information is live
Multiple users can see the same project at the same time, without pesky notifications to "read only/notify user"
Customer service is AMAZING, you get a representative from the start, and NO call in centre; one contact, dedicated to your account year round.
Collaboration is superior to other products

Cons:
Adoption issues
New Feature roll outs seem great to start, but AtTask seems focused on moving to innovation rather than solidifying existing features that need more depth, leaving old tools ill functioning and putting resources into new things people don't need
Mobile platform is still not good at best
Resource / Capacity planner is poor at best, and requires tons of effort to make work properly; often requiring a secondary program to make sense of things (i.e microsoft projects)

Comments: We were drastically able to increase our efficiency by reducing the number of tools we used day to day from 8-1. Its easy to learn, and offers amazing visibility for our executives as well. We love the product.

Pros: Easy to implement - we set the system up and were in full production mode in just over two weeks.
Extremely easy to use - the new Outlook add-in which is part of the R16 release provides a very simple and easy-to-use interface for "Team Users". It simplifies updating project tasks and is so easy to do from within the Microsoft Outlook application on your desktop.
Easy access- The Outlook add-in, the iPhone app and the Android app provide easy access and greatly increase efficiencies for updating tasks and reporting time.
Rich functionality - the Gantt view in AtTask is very robust and very forgiving. It allows you to update the task from within the Gantt, change dates, move them around, reschedule, add successors and predecessors and update % complete to name a few. The dependency functionality associated with these is very handy when you have to reschedule a task and want the other tasks associated to move with it.

Cons: Support service - while we have not had many issues with the system and the ones we have had have not been very serious, the support has not been stellar. We are located on the east coast and a problem reported in the early AM on the east coast may not get any attention at all until late, late afternoon on the east coast.

Overall: This is an excellent PPM system for an organization that needs to capture time, costs and information related to project activities. It is very easy to set-up and rollout and provides great tools for reporting. I highly recommend this solution as Project Portfolio Management tool.
