Pros: Can access on-line at home or work.

Cons: Lots of clicking. Must click many times to enter grades. I'd like to be able to 10 key.

Overall: I'm happy with the improvements are have been made. I'd like to see a seating chart for each class. The system could create it by abc's, age, boy/girl or randomly.

Recommendations to other buyers: Add a seating chart option.

Comments: For a light Student Information System, Alma provides a well design User Interface and great customer support. Their report card customization is strong and the myriad reports provide a wealth of information.

Pros: Perfect. It give you all that you need from an SIS. I mean...it really is.

Cons: Limited scope. I am Director of Technology at a private school. The system is not as robust as a Blackbuad or Veracross, yet.

Overall: Every SIS should be this easy and straight forward. The team at Alma is extraordinary. The product is easy to use and efficient.

Comments: Alma is powerful, feature-rich and there exists no significant initial learning curve for teachers and students alike. For school administrators it is still pretty hard to setup correctly though. Especially, if your school is not a typical US school. In that case your requirements might differ, but Alma can and did definitely help with almost any situation imaginable.

Alma's recent April'2016 upgrade is wonderful. I can just click and enter a grade right into the 'live' gradebook. I have missed this feature so much since my experience with Engrade. I am super happy about these and other recent developments. In fact, we probably use only 50% of the system's capabilities, because Alma could make a better case of training its user base e.g. by means of tutorials and webcasts.

At this price point, Alma is going to succeed and spread like a wild fire. It is that good.

Comments: Pros-Customer service is great. They work on updates almost every week as their product continues to grow and expand to meet the needs of school districts.
Cons-They are developing the transcript and the scheduler component. That is why I rated overall as 4 star instead of 5.(I am a high school counselor).
Ease of use is continuing to get better and better with each update they make. It's not that the program is hard to use it is just that occasionally there are a few more clicks you have to make in order to get to where you want to be. However, they have added a few things just in the last week that are making it easier and more efficient to use.(gradebook updates, search bar, etc)

Making the jump to Alma was a big leap at the high school because when we started they did not have a scheduler component or a transcript. This made me very nervous as a high school counselor who uses both of these items. However, I was tired of having to track students using a credit worksheet. I know that with a year or two Alma will be were the high school needs them to be. The parents and students have made many comments about how easy it is for them to use their side of Alma. The communication tools within Alma are easy to use and something I use to reach parents/students about different opportunities, scholarships, testing dates, etc.

I am excited to be on this journey with Alma and feel like we are headed in the right direction!

Comments: Alma has changed the way our entire school runs and operates. Our school was originally using a software called School Dynamics which lacked a lot of features and tools that we needed. We decided to make a switch to Alma, and boy was that a good idea! Alma has so many features to allow full communication between parents, students, and teachers. Our staff and parents love it! The is no other online software that comes close to the amount of features, support, and usability.

Comments: I have been teaching for 25 years and I can say Alma makes report cards quick and easy. I just record my test scores every week and when the grading period comes around Alma takes care of everything. It is easy to make comments and the finished product is professional looking. Even a person of my age - who isn't terribly computer savvy can use Alma and save time.

Comments: ALMA IS A GOOD SYSTEM. THE PRIMARY ADVANTAGES ARE THAT IT IS EASY TO ENTER AND SEE ASSIGNMENTS. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE WEIGHT GIVEN FOR A PARTICULAR ASSIGNMENT THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM A TEACHER'S SETTING. FOR EXAMPLE, AN ASSESSMENT FOR 100 POINTS CARRIES A HEAVIER WEIGHT (%) THAN AN ASSESSMENT FOR 20 POINTS. ALL ASSESSMENTS ARE WEIGHTED IN OUR SETTINGS AND SHOULD BE A CONSTANT. ALMA CHANGED THIS FOR SOME REASON AND IT HAS PROVEN TO BE QUITE PROBLEMATIC FOR ME.

Comments: I have used several computer gradebooks and this is the best yet. Our team uses standards based grading and Alma support has been very helpful in meeting all of our requests to customize the system.

Comments: Pros: web. based, easy to toggle between classes
Cons: missing features - seating charts, student health flags for such things as allergies. Information is hard to read for grades (I lose the students name as I move across.)
I'd like to publish grades without having to mark each student received or not turned in. (If I don't enter a grade it should automatically say not turned in and have a 0.)

Comments: Alma has been an incredible tool for our school, and I am so thankful we began using this software. Student, teacher and parent have easy access to students' assignments and grades. The program is easy to use and Alma staff is always on hand to assist when there are questions. The staff at Alma have also worked closely with our school, which follows an independent study module, to customize usage to meet our needs.
As a teacher, I've been incredibly impressed by the ease of data input and record keeping. Alma has made my life so much easier. My students are also thrilled with their ability to check grades, assignments and comments online, anytime. I highly recommend Alma to others.

Comments: The Alma GUI is so simple to use that the parents, teachers, and students actually use it willingly. Our former SIS system was dependent upon drill down features which the users became lost in and refused to use it. If you can use a cell phone, then you can use ALMA. Its that simple.

Comments: Alma is an easy to use and intuitive platform. Love how grades, resources, videos, links, etc. can all be easily accessed from one location. It can be cumbersome at times for students trying to access comments. I would also love a way to attach documents when sending out a group message from Alma. Looking forward to a mobile format that works better with the iPhone as well.

Comments: I like that this software is SO easy to use and the flexibility is wonderful. We have had some challenges here and there, in order to set up the program to fit our needs as a Charter School with students working online as well as students in a brick and mortar setting. The team at ALMA has worked day and night to help us set up a system that is customized to our needs. Our teachers are thrilled with the software and it's capabilities in curriculum planning, assignments and grading. I'm excited for the future and the continual updates and improvements that ALMA is making. I'm very impressed with the ease of the program and it's "real-time" features.

Comments: We went looking for a standards-based/proficiency gradebook and found ALMA, an all-in-one school information system. We have used ALMA for 3 years now and it continues to improve. Comments: The reports are not user friendly and don't offer what teachers need. The attempt that Alma made to create a reports section is poor. The reports are very rudimentary and are not acceptable. The interactions that I've had with the online support has not been helpful and the reps are rude! Also, the program (Alma) doesn't allow a teacher to go back and look at previous lesson plans once they've been marked completed. Which begs the question of what's the point of putting your lesson plans online if you can never access them again!!! I'm extremely disappointed with the program and staff!

Comments: I truly like NextLesson and will continue to use it. I teach Project Lead The Way Engineering classas and because my lessons are so focused on engineering, I don't always have time to cover other needed subjects and holidays. I have used NextLesson and have provided extra credit assignments on the following topics: Pi Day, St. Patrick's Day, Black Heritage Month and March Madness! My students have enjoyed the extra well-planned lessons. I have also used lessons to enhance the PLTW lessons like the skyscraper lesson or Pi Day's lesson.

NextLesson is actually coming to my school to teach staff how to use more NextLesson lessons. This is long awaited and can only heighten our offerings for student success.

I started a new job that uses Alma for everything, and I was able to learn the program quickly due to its ease of use.

Comments: We have been using Alma for several months now and are very pleased with it. Our school is not a regular school. We are a private k-12 school that has been in operation for 40 years. To aid us with accreditation we began searching for an LMS and SIS. Alma did an amazing job working with us to set up our non conventional systems of grading and scheduling. The people we have interacted with have been excellent and customer support has been phenomenal.

Pros: Easy to use, great support and a good price. Huge value.

Cons: Some of our weird situations aren't handled but they have done a great job working with us.

We are putting our whole school on it as soon as possible.

Comments: I have found this to be quite useful for grading. I have had problems trying to get attendance records for the whole class at the end of the semester. Its cumbersome to go one student at a time.

Comments: We moved from a very expensive and ridiculously difficult system to this one and it has made things so much easier.

So far we use Alma mainly for the Grade Book and Attendance and it works really well.

Attendance has gone through some changes since we signed up in September 2015 and this has caused a little confusion but once you understand what's happening (contact support) it's quite simple to use. Don't let this deter you though because I've already been assured that changes are coming.

Speaking of which you won't get empty promises from these folks. I've requested a couple of updates since we signed up and some were even implemented within a couple of weeks.

Everyone is nice to you when they're trying to get your money. The true test of a company's motives is the way they treat their customers after the sale. Well Alma have passed this test with flying colors.

Every user (teacher and admin) has direct access to support so queries are usually dealt with pretty quickly since there is no need for support requests to go through me :)

One of the best things you can do when you get started is to go through the online documentation in the support area. Many of my questions were answered right there. Be warned though - you may need to actually read :O

As far as I can tell there is no perfect system out there (and I tried a ton of them before I found Alma) but with the constant improvements, beautiful interface and top notch customer support you'd be hard pressed to find a better solution.

Creating reports cards was actually enjoyable and teachers were very pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of the process on their end.

We also haven't been compelled to adopt all the modules at once. Adopting one small section at a time has made transitioning from our old, very outdated processes quite smooth and I for one can't wait to dive into the other features like parent portals and school fees.

You guys have a fan for life here :)

Comments: Alma has been a game changer for us. As a small college-prep school with a very small administrative team, it was next to impossible for us to keep track of things like attendance and assignments on a day to day basis. We had tried other services and found them cumbersome and to have way too many features for our needs. When we implemented Alma this past summer, it was like a breath of fresh air. Using it is very simple, intuitive, and it's kept us much more connected with our families as well as allowed for parents to be able to more easily track their child's progress on a day to day basis.

The one thing I really want to highlight here though is their customer service. It is, bar none, the best customer service team I've ever worked with. Responses to questions are extremely fast, patient, and kind. They are flexible with requests and are very open to feedback. I was happy with the product when we adopted it, but was blown away by the outstanding customer service.

While there are definitely features that we wish Alma had (the biggest one by far being the ability to have it work well on mobile and/or have an app), in general it's been great, and they add features frequently as a growing service. I have a feeling that Alma will only improve on an already great project as time goes on. I recommend them highly.

Comments: I have been using the ALMA system for two years and have found it very easy to operate. It has been a great tool for me and has helped my students to stay on top of homework assignments. It has also helped to facilitate my communication with parents. ALMA takes feedback well and has made good improvements at the request of the users .

The only issues that we have typically deal with the unique settings in our school, and sometimes, it is difficult to tailor the program to fit all of our needs.

Comments: Alma is a user-friendly service that provides all that we need as a school. On Alma we keep our school calendar up-to-date, teachers create class assignments and submit grades, we generate report cards, and more. The customer service is great, and there is always somebody available within just a few hours to answer questions.

The only hard part has been getting all parents and teachers on board. If everybody used Alma it would be way more effective. Some parents and teachers are still holding on to former tools, so we are hoping to make Alma a required service for all families and faculty so it can be used in the most effective way possible.

Comments: We began using the Alma gradebook last year, and then the Learning Report feature this year. Initial set up of the files and transfers was a little bumpy with customer service at the beginning of the year, so this accounts for 4 instead of 5 stars. From there, the team has really worked to adjust files to our needs, particularly when we come up to report card time.

The program still seems relatively new, as the team is building and embedding resources as it goes, and customer service is responsive to requests for new types of reports. I really appreciate the chat feature in the program, to see which customer service members have seen a message in the queue, and that I get an email if I'm not online to see it.

One difficulty that has taken some time is the process of loading our state standards. Only national Common Core standards for math and ELA, and the National Science Standards are available for the gradebook side. This meant hours, hours and hours of work on our part to code and format our state standards to send to Alma so that, hopefully soon, they can be uploaded and our teachers can use them. In the meantime, no scores on the gradebook side can be loaded for any subject other than math, ELA, and science, given that we want to use Common Core and NSS standards for those assignments.

The process of loading specialized learning targets for report cards was very easy the first term. Since we were learning the process, teachers wanted to create some adjustments to those for the second term, and that required a huge effort on Alma's end, so we've been nervous and eager to see that working and get reports done in time for parents. Likely, now that we've gone through that with them, it would be easier for other schools if needed from this point forward.

Comments: One great aspect of Alma is the ease of use of the software. We had a training session and could pretty much figure everything out from there. When we had a question about something, Alma personnel were great with assisting us. There have been features we desired the software to have and after mentioning those to Alma they have been great about adding those features or working towards the additions.

Comments: The support staff was prompt, however seemed to have difficulty providing immediate responses. Many of the teachers that had difficulty met and discovered we were having the same problems. The support staff kept us motivated to continue. It was challenging to know or follow correct procedures since the lack of clear directions was the problem. An online step by step procedure manual would improve teacher hick ups.

Comments: Pros: Price can't be beat; extremely user friendly; best customer service ever experienced - they listen to your needs and try to give you exactly what you want and they respond immediately; personal training for your school; help available by email and phone; product still being developed so as a customer you have a lot of input; live demo when deciding to use or not

Cons: No accounting or student discipline record keeping options; admin privileges are all or nothing - you cannot give someone admin privileges for just one task without giving them access to all admin privileges; product still being developed so had to wait for certain features

My experience with Alma has been great! We're a new school, so have an extremely limited budget. We had expected to have to settle for a grading program and Excel or Access for the admin. Alma was the perfect choice for us! They have been so helpful and fast with their customer service. They are new, so are still working out the kinks, but each time they change something, it just makes our use of the program easier. Alma is so user friendly, I could have learned the program by just exploring on my own, but the live tutorial for our school saved me the time. Alma only charges for certain features and even those costs are nominal. There are only a couple more features I'd like to see in Alma, the financial and discipline record keeping. Other than that, it's got everything we have needed this year.

We have multi-age classrooms, and differentiated. Assignments are different for groups of students, and the class list looks as though some students didn't complete the assignment, when it wasn't assigned .

As far as the gradebook concern you have, you can mark the assignments as "N/A" (Not Assigned) for the students that are on a different level rather than "Not Turned In". N/A will not count against the student. It records in your gradebook as if that assignment does not exist for those students. I hope that helps! Comments: Navigating Alma took some coaching, but once I did I found it easy to use and very handy. I like that I can weight assignments by category, that averages are automatically calculated, and that I'm able to review past trimesters and quickly compare them. I also like being able to override the calculated average when I feel it's appropriate. What I wish is that I could input assignments directly onto the gradebook, saving the step of creating the assignments. Overall a very good product and experience.

Comments: We had previously used Gradelink and we're happy with it until the price went up drastically. We searched for an alternative and found Alma and are so glad. The platform is much more user friendly and required no lengthy training sessions. Customer support was always readily available and very helpful. We won't be looking anywhere else for our SIS.

Comments: Alma has been great overall. It's quite a step up from the software we used last year. A lot of the teachers are pleased. We've encountered some glitches here and there, but the customer and tech service has been phenomenal and fast! The report card feature is pretty great--it makes it quite easy to get report cards done and out to parents (and without having to use ink and paper!). A couple teachers have complained about the inputting of grades being time-consuming. Overall though, the we've been quite pleased.

Comments: We moved over to Alma to make life simpler and more user-friendly primarily for our teachers and parents and we've been very happy.

While we are still waiting for certain features to be developed as the company is new, the reason we like Alma is because they listen. When something goes wrong (and come on, no matter what you use, something is going to go wrong at some point) we have found them to be unbelievably responsive and completely open to suggestions. They have listened to what we need on numerous occasions and we know that when they say they're working on something, they really are.

Comments: Overall, Alma has improved the quality of our report cards, grade book, and attendance keeping. We are now more stream lined.

The one area that I would like to see developed is a lesson plan format similar to the one we use at school currently. This would allow my staff to use one site for everything they need to complete.

Comments: So far Alma has met the vast majority of our needs as a school. The platform is continuing to grow and expand with refinement and features, but most importantly, it is the approach to integrate administrative tasks like class set up and scheduling together with learning management. While this isn't unique, the user-friendly design is.

The design is what makes Alma stand apart from other platforms in this space, and if virtually anyone with basic computer-literacy can set up, organise, and manage a school with current data, then Alma is wildly succeeding. This is the biggest hurdle to using any system and the threshold for difficulty is relatively low.

Not all processes are intuitive and it takes some playing to see just exactly how Alma has designed their system to work, but it is far easier than any competitors that I have used such as Power School. For small schools, especially ones with little to no budget, Alma is an adequate, if not incredibly decent solution.

I'm looking forward to see what changes are coming for the next school year. I would definitely recommend Alma to schools similar to ours and need a school-wide solution to interact with all of their stakeholders.

Comments: Alma has gone above and beyond in their customer service. We've been with them for about seven months now, and I'm still so very impressed with how much they're there for us--every time. They are absolutely fantastic! Quick, reliable, professional, and very proficient at what they do. The interface took some time for the teachers to learn and get used to, which is totally normal and expected. But it's very user-friendly, so it didn't take long! It's exponentially better than the system we used to use. Five stars across the board for sure.

Comments: Wonderful product! From design to publish, all components needed to report student progress are there. The ability to communicating with stakeholders is valuable. I especially like the "Help" application. Pictures of each screen was most beneficial. Lauren, at customer service, is a gem. I would recommend this product to my associates.

Comments: Pro: great staff; very responsive customer service and training.
Pro: the system is very easy to use, and very robust - it has a lot of features
Pro: far less expensive than the other programs we investigated
Pro: they did our data entry for $2 per record

Con: none

Overall impression: we are so happy to be rid of our old system and have something user-friendly and robust.
