Pros: Integration of Petly Wellness Plans in the patient's CS file. This is awesome being able to see what plan they have and what items they have used and have remaining. Inventory control keeps us on track. It lets us know when to order items and even where we order them from. We can prevent overstocking and running out of things. Automatic reminders and appointment confirmations are truly a timesaver. Processing payments through Cornerstone for credit cards and even excessing CareCredit are so quick that it minimizes our client's wait time at check out. And now being able to see vaccine history of each patient all under one tab is awesome. Printing vaccine certificates couldn't be easier. The whiteboard is great so everyone knows at a glance from any terminal why a pet is in the hospital and what is being done for them. Cornerstone has certainly changed over the years!

Cons: We haven't had much success using the boarding module to fit our needs and the way we reserve boarding space for our pets, because you can't schedule 2 pets for the same cage on the same day if one is leaving in the morning and the other is coming in the afternoon. We need to play with it more I guess.

Overall: I could go on and on. It makes my life so much easier as the office manager. As I said in the review from making and confirming appointments, to controlling inventory, managing the Petly Wellness Plans, compliance of clients using medications to include heartworm and flea preventions, to vaccines, to spay and neuters. Even using the callback lists daily to check on our patients, e have built such trust in our clients that we truly care about our patients. It is extremely easy to close our the end of day with the software and print reports to see how we are doing as a practice. I have used Cornerstone since 2006 and have experienced it grow and evolve in to the premium management software that it is today. It is always improving and the IDEXX team listens to what the practice owners need and want.
They make it happen! Thank you.

Pros: The upgrades have been challenging some years and in the recent years very easy. We have 23 computers in our clinic and the upgrades have taken over 4 hours to complete. Since 8.5 the upgrades take 1-2 hours for myself and 1 other staff to complete, very acceptable to me.
The recent improvements have enabled my staff to work more efficiently, we are now sending invoices, client records and e-mails from cornerstone and documenting in the patient file all at once. No more copy and pasting from our e-mail to document in the client record.
As the inventory manager I very much appreciate being able to e-mail out my purchase orders to distributors that are not connected with smart order (post the purchase work list and it is directly send to MWI) or e-shelf (post the purchase work list and it is immediately sent to Patterson).
With the last upgrade we are able to secure computers in the rooms or client areas. We feel the need to set our clients at ease that our data is protected, just like the big human hospitals.
These are just a few of the new upgrades that we feel have helped our clinic flow. Idexx Cornerstone is always listening to what we want and try very hard to improve clinic efficiencies.

Cons: Not being able to have the alerts on patients print on the check in sheets on the top or first page.

Cornerstone is the way to go!!

Pros: ease of use

Cons: so many different ways you can use it.

Overall: We are very happy we chose to work with Idexx Cornerstone when we opened our hospital 6 years ago. The system meets all of our needs and the classes provided are top notch. They really help you to make sure you are using the program to it's fullest potential and ensures you are being as efficient as you can be with daily workflow tasks. Everyone I've encountered whether it is in person or over the phone is always kind, friendly and ready to help. We wouldn't change a thing.

Comments: Cornerstone is a complex, robust, PIM system with both high and low points. Cornerstone support is top notch and the development team is always working to implement enhancement requests of their user base. The reminder function of Cornerstone is the best I have used. Gets the job done in day to day practice. I look forward to seeing what they bring to the table with each update.

Comments: All PIMS have their limitations and Cornerstone is no different. The one difference I enjoy is that all the IDEXX employees I deal with are amazing. The phone customer support is top notch. I will say that if the product was more streamline and hadn't been over sold to us I might not know how great customer support is.

Pros: Very powerful!

Cons: Refresh speed. Uploading digital images is a bit of a pain!

Overall: We love the digital whiteboard. Phone customer support is great and a very powerful system!!

We have not used the cloud based system - so no beta there!

Comments: I've been using Idexx and Cornerstone for 20 years now. There is no other practice management software available that offers as much to a veterinary practice as Cornerstone. And our company utilizes most everything that Idexx offers:. In-house lab equipment, digital radiology, data backup, reminder services, reference lab and telecommunications, and technical support. Everything is top of the line!

Cons: Inventory module could be better.

Overall: Cornerstone is very user friendly and offers a lot of features, many of which people probably don't even know about or bother to use! Investing in a Cornerstone trainer to help you get the most out of the system is a must. Also, highly recommend having the Cornerstone Support. Anytime you have questions, you can call and the support team will walk you through what to do. The online Idexx Learning Center is a great resource as well.

Pros: The strongest features are the ability to integrate lab, digital imaging, and client communication within one program. The report features are very good as well. Tech support has been great, and long hours of operation are very helpful as we operate extended hours.

Cons: Set up can be complicated and it requires a commitment to ongoing education about the program. Staff training is very important.

Overall: I am a power user of Cornerstone and am currently running it in five practices. Without a doubt, it was a great choice for us when we changed practice management software several years ago. The ability to integrate our lab and digital imaging is outstanding-no missed charges, all information immediately available in the correct patient chart, improved work flow and efficiency, and the ability for doctors to choose the format that they prefer for viewing results. I also really appreciate the customer support-I am the general manager as well as the network administrator, and being able to have any staff member call in to get a problem solved rather than waiting for me is very helpful. Support is respectful and very helpful to our team. We are also making great use of the learning center and the more advanced Cornerstone training programs. The reports and the Performance Tracker feature are extremely useful in managing the business side of the practice-you can really decide what level of information you want and go find it. The reports also provide a great deal of data about our clients and patients which helps us provide the care and services they want and value. The integration of Pet Health Network Pro for client communication is great-we really like the reporting features and communication options there as well. For me, the ability to have all of this technology easily integrated with one point of contact and one point of accountability has also been much more efficient than trying to deal with multiple providers as I have in the past. The only real negative with Cornerstone is all those features can also make it feel very complicated. It does require a commitment to training and to learning about the program to make it work well in your practice-but when you think of that database as the goodwill value of your practice, taking the time to manage it effectively is absolutely crucial for the long term success of your business. Some folks may find they don't need the integration or firepower, and Cornerstone may not be the best option for them as it is more expensive than some of the other options. However, I don't think it can be beat for the integration and reporting capabilities.

Recommendations to other buyers: make use of the initial trainer and the Idexx learning center to get what you want from the software.

Pros: How easy it was to learn.

Cons: Sometimes the computers would crash in the middle of putting the charge codes in.

Overall: I used Cornerstone for 3 years in a busy veterinary clinic. I was able to learn the system quickly and it was easy to use. I like that you can keep all important documents, including digital radiographs in a file on the computer.

Cons: A representative of the company came to talk to us about this new software. She answered A lot of questions and helped us navigate through some basic business functions, but I would have liked her to provide more time or a second day to assist us with this new system. Great software- but be sure all employees have enough time to learn all the great things it has to offer!

Overall: I used this system at a veterinary clinic I worked at. This program has a vast amount of functions and can be used for more than just basic appointment scheduling. Great product to start your way to a paperless filing option.

Overall: Cornerstone's integration ability from in house lab, merchant services, and IDEXX Lab made it a clear choice for our clinic. It is packed full of features and was easily customized to fit our needs. I'd recommend this product to other clinics with a little computer know-how as this is an advanced system. The learning curve is a little high, but it's definitely worth the time and energy. Oh yeah and customer support is available 6 days a week which is excellent!

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the time to do the training videos to use the features appropriately. ESPECIALLY for the ordering list and inventory managment.

Overall: I have been using Cornerstone for about 10 years now. It is a very powerful program but is a daily source of frustration for us. The program has a checkered history- it started life as a diet calculator, but then features were bolted on over the years until it is now a full-blown practice management system with support for digital radiography, inventory management, medical notes, the works. Unfortunately this haphazard development history shows: the program is inconsistent in operation from one screen to the next, and many parts of the program don't work well with one another. Also, and perhaps most frustratingly, bugs do not get fixed: updates contain new features and new bugs, but old bugs are rarely fixed. Here's an example: there is a rounding error in the quantity on hand calculation that occasionally makes it impossible for certain inventory quantities to go to zero. Even entering zero manually does not set the quantity to zero. Unfortunately it is impossible to move an item to a new location if the QOH is not zero - a step necessitated by a design error in the program that I won't go into - so one has to contact customer support, have them remotely connect to the server, and edit the data using database tools. This needs to be done every few months. Some features are extremely hard to use - for example, simply selecting a lot number for a vaccine requires 3 windows, 7 clicks, and one double-click on a non-obvious location. It is so tedious that we had to disable expiration date tracking for everything except vaccines. There are at least 3 different ways to enter dates in different parts of the program. Error messages appear at random and are not helpful. User errors made cannot be corrected (!) - for example, if we enter the wrong provider on an invoice, the entire invoice needs to be voided and recreated - it cannot be changed, even by a supervisor with special clearance. Etc. I could go on for hours.

Pros: Ease of use (once you get used to it - as it is with any program), integration with the Idexx reference lab, the support is always friendly and thorough.

Cons: Pricey as is the support.

Overall: Cornerstone gives me everything I need to run my practice. The support is amazing! I can customize it all I want and make changes as needed.

Pros: There are many ways to accomplish the same thing. It is quiet intuitive after you have received the basic training. I have found service support to be timely and effective. It is so versatile I can't imagine it wouldn't be a good fit for any size, growing practice.

It integrates very, very well with all of our equipment.

Cons: It is a beast! It can accomplish so many things it can be intimidating at first but with patience and the willingness to call the support team for help and if you take the time to watch the snippets online. It is an awesome program.

Overall: We bought Cornerstone several years ago, at that time we were a busy 4 doctor practice. Installation was relatively seamless with our antiquated Better Choice system. It does take some getting used to and it is so powerful it has many features, but many ways to accomplish the same thing. You do need to have a solid understanding of windows but I find our staff catches on easily. We are now a busy 8 Veterinarian practice (mixed animal) and we continue to use many of the features Cornerstone has available. Cornerstone also grows with us.

Recommendations to other buyers: Be patient, spend the extra time and money to have it set up right the first time. Have the computer geek on your staff in on the training so you can customize templates easily. We have a huge staff and once we customized our templates we all enter data and soaps the same so that we can follow each others exams easily.

Pros: The flexibility of the program. It is able to be adapted to almost every situation. We alo appreciate that it is always evolving.

Cons: Some search features that could be added. Some of the reports are not intuitive to create.

Overall: We use Cornerstone in our practice. We have transitioned to all electronic medical records and find it quite easy to use. We also use support quite a bit. The techs are very knowledgable and helpful

Recommendations to other buyers: It is an enormous program that has almost anything that you need. Do not be shy about calling support if you can't find a function. There are educational snippets to help find and implement parts of the program.

Comments: We purchased this software program for around 30,000. Prior to purchase we were not made aware that if we have any problems with the program we would have to pay $170/15 min or several thousands of dollars a year for service. Though I am sure this is in the contract somewhere it was not mentioned prior to purchase. However we chose not to participate in the service agreement and have only had small glitches here and there. However our program got hacked and as a result we had an IT guy come in to clean the system and restore our network. Come to find out that Cornerstone at the time of installation was suppose to leave a disc with out system so we could restore but they did not so in order to restore the program we had to contact their service. This particular computer had already had the system in place but needed to be restored. After several attempts by several technicians it was finally accomplished and our technician informed us that they kept making him repeat the same thing over and over again until they figured it out how to get it downloaded. Also was enlightened to find out that Cornerstone had already had 30 clients or so also hacked and made the comment that anyone who had not changed the initial passcodes used during installation appeared to have been the targeted and accessed. I then received a bill for over $2200 and called them to complain that my IT would not have needed to call them at all had they sent me my system disc the first time and also that it showed a true ineptitude that their technicians could not get the program reinstalled to a computer that had already had the program to begin with. After waiting for three weeks for a reply from a supervisor we received a call from a receptionist instead and was told they would only discount the bill $500 for not giving us our original system disc. I find this unacceptable on several levels. This bill would not have been incurred if they had given us our original disc to begin with and also had they contacted us as a client to inform us they had already had issues of their program being hacked and that the passcodes used during installation needed to be changed and the open port to their system closed. I believe that there is no reason why they shouldn't have been able to download our program in only a few minutes and that they were negligent not informing us that their was a security issue with their system.

Comments: I wrote my own software that ran my 3 hospitals for years. But being a full time programmer and practicing vet and IT department became too much so we switched to Cornerstone. As an amateur software developer i think Idexx should be ashamed of their product. It has some nice features but so poor to use. You need to click 3 ok buttons to record a weight, and that's typical of how this software is set up. It doesn't follow Microsoft's basic use patern so it is difficult to learn and kludgy to use. Idexx bought this software to sell their lab work. I've heard rumor that no one at idexx really knows how to modify the software so forget about updates fixing any basic problems. I have it because i got it for free with lots of computers just because i signed up to continue using their lab. When my 5 year stint is up, I'll look at another software package because this one stinks.

Comments: Don't even think about starting out with this software. Buggy, slow, and if I could give customer support a negative review I would. Our hospital has lost literally thousands of hours to trying to Macgyver this junk into working. It has always been inefficient and had the feeling that it was kludged together, but now, months after upgrading to the recommended latest server and version of Cornerstone, it still isn't running properly, and Idexx shows zero inclination to help us. It fails to properly transfer from the lab to records. The server needs to be constantly restarted as the latest version leaks memory and eventually the server grinds to a halt. The accuracy of our records is becoming compromised, and the frustration of dealing with Cornerstone as our backbone is having an impact on morale. We are a seven vet hospital with 22 workstations, and we are now actively inspecting alternatives.

Comments: Worst software I have ever used in my many years as a practice manager. Software is horribly buggy, crashes constantly, loses medical notes, changes prices, deletes items from patient visit list, and the problems go on and on. Their support people have been out to our practice for 12 hour days at a time on multiple occasions as well as making us spend hours on the phone with them trying to "assess the problem", to no avail. They have blamed it on our "workflow", "environmental factors", our cell phones being too close to the computers (???), and much more, but never admit that perhaps it is Cornerstone's issue. We want the software removed and our money refunded, which they refused. The next step is a lawyer. Just horrible.

You can use it for scheduling. You can maintain your records in it and it can be looked at any where. You can e-mail your records to others.

This software is very ineffecient. Our staff is spending all their time doing redundant things. It is not user friendly. It is not attractive. It is not efficient. There is no excuse in this day and age for software this bad!

Look for something better. If there is nothing better, keep using paper.
