They also positively rate the software’s ability to integrate and work well with the other development platforms they use.   ## Recent trends in application development software **Growing risk of generative AI in outsourced software development**: Sometimes to save time or because of a lack of internal resources, companies may outsource the process of app development to a third party. However, as the use of generative AI increases for both in-house and outsourced development a number of new risks arise. Gartner predicts that by 2026, generative AI will be used to develop 50% of the new website and mobile app codes using large language models. This emerging trend creates some business risks, such as considerations about accuracy and security in AI-generated code and ringfencing sensitive data used for the build, that could be input into a Gen-AI tool.   Another potential risk Johnstone sees is that businesses that don’t adapt fast enough to the new developments: “Almost everyone is going to be affected by the use of GenAI in software development applications. It’s an adapt or die situation.” Johnstone expects that in the long run the advantages of AI-enabled features in app development will outweigh the potential risks. “AI will have an enormously positive impact on the way companies can customize their interaction with customers. Once you understand your customer, you could, for example, adjust interfaces to specific individual needs and preferences.
