Engineers scientists product developers production specialists students studying physics and processes.
Open-source simulation software designed to help businesses of all sizes with mesh generation and turbulence modeling.
COMSOL application is an excellent FEM software solution. I would highly recommend it to students and any one who prefers an excellent FEM software.
This can be frustrating for users who are looking to optimize their simulations. Another limitation I have encountered is that some modules have limitations that are not well described in the manual.
Highly capable multiphysics software with great ease of use and customizable for a wide range of applications and real-world scenarios. Very easy and simple coupling between physics modules.
While the software does support parallel computing, it can be difficult to configure, and it can be hard to tell whether the software is actually running in parallel in a cluster setup.
They have been a pioneering software in the multiphysics area and conduct very good training programs to get students and users off to a good start.
Troubleshooting a numerical model in COMSOL is a painful process.
Additionally, they have the best and easily accessible support staff able to answer any relevant questions. GUI and post-processing visualizations are remarkable.
The simple interface might lead users to simplify their simulations setups and problems as well.
It is probably one of the most flexible simulators out there and that is what I love most about it.
This can be particularly challenging for those who are not familiar with programming or scripting. Another downside of OpenFOAM is its lack of a GUI, which can make it less accessible to some users.
This means that OpenFOAM can run simulations quickly and effectively, even with large amounts of data or complex geometries. Another positive aspect of OpenFOAM is its large and active user community.
The absence of a GUI is consistently seen as one of OpenFOAM's worst drawbacks.
Additionally, the software is continually updated and improved upon, meaning that users can benefit from ongoing advancements and new features.
This is largely due to the lack of a graphical user interface (GUI), which means that users must interact with the software using command line inputs.
Overall, I highly recommend OpenFOAM to anyone looking for robust and customizable CFD software.
It requires some programming knowledge to use and set up simulations. Another limitation of OpenFOAM is its computational requirements.
Ramin: My name is Ramin. I'm a Process Engineer working in a petroleum refinery company, and I rate COMSOL four out of five. For more reviews like this, click the link below. I used MATLAB and ANSYS before COMSOL and I left them because they were not completely user-friendly. Well, the main reason is it's very user-friendly and it can handle different meshes for different purposes, and it has a huge database. As I mentioned before, because of its huge and comprehensive database, it was really easy to switch to it and use it in my profession. Of course, it has different materials and I used it for the heat transfer and electrical currents in [inaudible 00:01:04] type panels, and it really helps us to navigate through the computing the temperature profiles in that. COMSOL has a really helpful forum in which you can ask your questions and there are many kind people who try to be helpful and sort out any kinds of problems you have with the app. So I highly recommend COMSOL and its forum because it really can be helpful to you.
