As an open source project, Icinga offers a free, open, and complete solution for most operation monitoring. In particular, Icinga is great for monitoring hosts and alerting on basic metrics.

It has constant development that can be a problem with outside plugins that are not supported so professionally. Also core product needs some knowledge to set up and maintain.

I love that I can give access to others as well, good for reports. Their support is also great, there were several occasions when I reported some bugs and they fixed them promptly, which is awesome.

You have to keep up with announcements to avoid missing new features.

I love the many different checks available, it was ahead of the game when it launched and keeps improving. I also like grouping my sites, and the many notifications and their in-depth customisability.

For example, if a Google Analytics tag goes missing.

OhDear has been a consistently great service with excellent uptime. It helps me keep track of our services and provide valuable reports to our clients.

The overall experience with Oh Dear was ok, but I could not monitor a few domains because of them. One of my domains expired because they failed to notify me.

OhDear sits perfectly in the middle and is a well-designed, fantastic monitoring system that's perfect for a lot of sites and apps.

But the most annoying thing is that a monitoring tool like this cannot monitor a domain expiration date.
