Designed for businesses of all sizes in aerospace, defense, contract engineering, electronics, and other industries, it is a CAD solution for PCB layout and schematic designing, PCB designing, etc.
Companies across a wide variety of sectors, from start-ups to Fortune 50 brands, use Canvas technical illustration software to create optimized and cost-effective documentation workflows
It gives a good opportunity to design the schematic and PCB for desired circuit at one software which linked together good enough.
The default settings generate dozens of spurious warnings for a moderate-size schematic.
These features and capabilities make Altium Designer a highly effective and efficient solution for PCB design, delivering exceptional quality and reliability.
Also, how to add/change polygon pour vertices changes all the time and it drives me nuts.
The best quality of Altium Designer software is its comprehensive and integrated approach to PCB design.
The only downside is disconnecting with the server a couple of times a week in the middle of projects.
One of the best tool which is available for the easy of use and good customer support.
Also for example if you wanted a 3 pin right angle header with 3D model you would need CAD software to take say a 10pin header and cut down.
We have used Canvas X to design our beautiful business cards and all of our forms. This year we used it to design an outstanding Christmas card.
The company's effort to update this has lead to the incorporation of changes worse than the original, or that were not adequately 'beta' tested.
If you don't have a dedicated graphics artist or marketing team on staff, this is a great product with easy to use features for most of your needs.
Overall, I can't conceive of using any other package, but while change is unavoidable, some of the so called upgrades are making my life very miserable.
The ability to import my CAD files with very few issues. The cost/performance is good compared with the other Graphics packages available (especially when there is an offer on).
For example the object 'attribute' tool has magically just disappeared from my installation, and can't be recovered. In some 20 years of using the software that type of error has never occured.
My experience with Canvas has been really good. It helps a lot to organize figures for publications.
The most annoying issue is with scroll wheel zooming when you have a selection highlighted.
Dev: Hi, my name is Dev. I'm a Design Engineer with Studiokumar, and I give Altium Designer a five out of five. I've been using Altium Designer for a long time, but before that, as a student, I'd also used Eagle and KiCad and Cadence pretty much all of the different EDA tools. I think Altium Designer is the best EDA tool to be using for professional electronic engineering design. I chose Altium Designer for my business because it's the tool that is able to do everything I need to do from initial schematic capture to board layout integration with Mechanical CAD, and all the other aspects of electronic product design. I think it's one of the most popular choices these days, and so it also works well when collaborating with other companies and other individuals doing electronic design work. Getting started with Altium is pretty similar to any other desktop software application. Things like license management and all that stuff has gotten a lot easier over the years, so I found it to be pretty simple. Just installing the base package and then updates, plugins, et cetera, was probably in total less than an hour to get the software up and running and working. Then of course, learning how to use all of the tools is a bigger process for Altium, but there's lots of resources from Altium and others to help get you started. I would recommend Altium Designer for many businesses that are doing electronic design. It's a full-featured and powerful software tool, so it would need to make sense for your business that you're doing a significant amount of significantly complex electronic design, but if that's what you're doing, Altium is probably the right choice for you. The main thing you'd want to think about is whether you want to go with the full Altium Designer package, or if you want to do one of the subscription or Altium 365 online setup. So you have to decide what's best for your business there. But as a tool, I think it's a win.
Prioritize real-user-identified key features according to your needs to find your best fit.
