Overall google data studio serves the purpose nod ioubt and creates very impressive dashboards with great customization. Just the statistical tools can be even more improved.

Some functions are hard to find and error messages are very vague. If the error messages could help pin point the errors a little better it would be easier.
I've used versions 5 up to 2013 - the power to do amazing formulas and formatting is awesome (from about 2010 to version 2013). Also, the ability to connect to almost any data source is great.
Crystal Reports is now owned by SAP, so beware of the horrible contractual and licensing agreements that may apply.
Talk of it's report features, various charts, user friendliness, ease of use, pricing, you will love it. Big ups to the developers because they've made my work very easy.
It has a weak data security model. The developer has to change permissions for different files.
Each version has improved while maintaining ease and approachability. I highly recommend this software to anyone in need of an ad-hoc or print-ready formatted reporting solution.
The lack of online dashboarding--with Power BI and other analytics moving into this space, I'm not sure if Crystal survives.

Along with Google Data Studio, we currently use Power BI in addition because Google Data Studio, while it's very powerful, it doesn't have all the features that Power BI does. However, Power BI lacks a great sharing interface, to be able to share the dashboards within our organization, and that's where Google Data Studio really shines. We chose to go with Google Data Studio preeminently because it's free, but also because it has great interface for sharing, and that was one thing we were definitely lacking with Power BI. Getting started with Google Data Studio was incredibly easy as compared to an enterprise level piece of software like Power BI or Tableau. Google Data Studio operates in the cloud. So really, as long as you have a Gmail account or a Google account, I should say, you're ready to go. For a new organization looking at Google Data Studio, I would make sure that it covers all your needs. You may find, like us, that you need a more enterprise level piece of software, like Power BI, Tableau. There are many data digitalization tools out there. Google Data Studio does a great job. It doesn't have all of the features, but it's definitely a great tool.
