Intended for research and note-taking
I like Mendeley because it is free which is really helping me a lot as a student and user friendly whereby I need not more than 2 hours to get used to it.
One is struck not by only the loss of previous features but also by the annoying bugs in existing features. Type in a search term that is not existent in the database.
The only advantage of using this tool is that it is a well-known tool that is used around the world in the academic world, and is therefore a good alternative for cooperating with teams.
No longer can you sort the list based on flagged citations. No longer can you easily (if at all) simply remove a citation from a group.
It helps with organization, too, because notes are always stored with the document. Great tool for students.
The only problem is that it doesn't support Google Docs.
Mendeley is an amazing low-cost solution for anybody who is looking for a reference manager.
The desktop app logs you out very often and I find it annoying to have to log in every time.
Roam has amazing foundations - the ease with which individual notes and blocks can be linked and/or embedded is amazing.
That's just one example, but it's very annoying and makes the platform frustrating at times.
What I most loved about roam research is the linking between notes it has, it is a feature I have not seen in other softwares and really helps creating a mental map about your thoughts.
Very simplistic interface, sometimes the nectar becomes the poison.
The easy to use interface and the ability to link notes is a gamechanger. It really helps to organize my thoughts.
The integration with our everyday used software was a little difficult.
The graph structure in which the information is stored is so amazing. It is very intuitive, linking notes from one page to other.
There are bugs and some annoying issues that could easily be fixed.
