RIB Software develops and sells innovative software tools for the architecture, engineering, and construction markets of North America.
Vectorworks is an award-winning design and BIM software provider serving the architecture, landscape architecture and design, and entertainment industries in 85 countries.
It also is a great tool to help younger designers become more thoughtful and intentioned as they can use Speclink as a great resource for product research that has already been done.
This has happened many times in our final Bid Sets after the QC process which is extremely disappointing.
Overall, I appreciate the ease of using the software, the functionality of it, ability to add User notes, import reference standards, ease of printing, etc.
Inability to easily track which sections I have worked on in section list, by date and editor.
The Cloud version has been a game changer. The new collaboration features are amazing and has enabled me to work remotely as effectively as possible.
The icons on the toolbar are difficult to understand and the toolbar itself is not intuitive as to where functions reside.
I love the flexibility of the platform and the allowance of customization; the ability to see the entirety of sections in case I change my mind; the incorporation of both system and user notes.
And we had an issue recently with it dying the night before a deadline... some of my edits were just erased and never saved.
We take advantage of the software’s BIM capabilities to generate elevations, schedules, and smart tags. This program is visually appealing and easy to navigate.
It must be integrated with other software solutions and at least on MacBook Pro it is a disaster. I understand that it is not entirely a software problem but it is really depressing.
Vectorworks is a great drafting program. It allows you to do anything you want, with great control over how the drawings look, and many ways to organize a complete drawing set.
Because of the limited use of this program in some markets, collaborating with others can be difficult.
Classes and layers system is generally a good way of working. I like the clean appearance of the workspace.
The biggest drawbacks to using Vectorworks is that it is not as widely used in the construction industry, so can be limited in transferring between consultants etc.
BIM capabilities, ease of learning, ease of use, ease of rendering, Smart tools, exceptional customer service, stability and speed of work.
And for BIM, it is hard to justify not using the industry standard software. So where is the edge for Vectorworks.
