Pros

  • Excellent product and my experience has been a positive one. The support team is fairly responsive.

  • Direct Mail is a real gem; the pricing policy is very fair and you can easilty up and downgrade your plans as needed.

  • It's the perfect scale and I love the ease of understanding the reporting, which becomes of direct benefit for following up and moving between lists.

  • Outstanding customer support. Excellent selection of easily, editable templates.

Cons

  • Editing of template could be a bit more flexible. Difficult to understand layout schema.

  • Reporting is limited, there aren't enough ways to compare and contrast. Very hard to export reports and data in bulk.

  • Then thats where you find out the support is AWFUL, as it seems to me theres only 2 people that work there, they refuse to talk on phone, and despite promises when chased up, they don't answer emails.

  • You get what you pay for. With their one time payment option you don't get much customer service and you'll need to maintain your own servers.

"Perfect Platform for Small Batch Mailing"
Overall: This is a core part of my communication toolkit. While I still use other mailing list platforms for specific purposes, this solves very specific bulk mailing needs.
Pros: I use this program for lists which have small and specifically targeted audiences. This mainly includes press lists for producing events, and for teaching large classes or workshops. It allows me to create simple mailings where I do not want a lot of noise or fuss, more like direct mail as opposed to broadcasting a message. It's the perfect scale and I love the ease of understanding the reporting, which becomes of direct benefit for following up and moving between lists. It functions for me like the perfect basic database for supporting the ways I need to communicate.
Cons: At this point I don't have a lot of complaints, as I've been using it for probably a decade. The cloud synchronization has been greatly improved more recently. I often send things which are just this side of plain text for ease of reading and sharing the content with the audiences I send to, and I do find that it's best to bring in any text unformatted and do the formatting within Direct Mail as the styles can get funky when one copies and pastes.
Switched From: Mailchimp
Reasons for Switching to Direct Mail: There were too many things to consider with Mail-chimp for the types of mailing I do with Direct Mail. I actually don't us Direct Mail for traditional internet marketing and newsletters, and so all of those extended features that get a lot of focus are less cluttered and easier to see past.

"Superb Mailing App!"
Overall: Really enjoy using Direct Mail and the results it produces.
Pros: Love the easy to use yet stylish interface all without using any code. Very consistent appearance in just about every email client.
Cons: Would love to be able to see Direct Mail sync Email Groups and subscription status with Apple Contacts app or BusyContacts apps. This would allow Contacts to keep a linked record of address statuses in Direct Mail.
Alternatives Considered: Mailchimp
Reasons for Choosing Direct Mail: Too complex. Preferred a standalone app. Direct Mail offers an easier to use code free interface.
Switched From: Mail Designer 365
Reasons for Switching to Direct Mail: Ease of use. Synchronisation with iCloud. More competitive pricing structure.

"Sending mails from an external database was easier before"
Overall: Time
Pros: It is doing what I want. Connect to an external database, send mail via an externa provider. But things are not working so well. The thing is that data in database are evolving and, in the new version, I have to re-right the request to the database each time in different adress group coming from different database. Spam test is not working. Preferences ares sometime not kept, situation on the screen for exemple.
Cons: Again it does exactly what i want but less easier than previous version . Main point is database connection.

"Excellent and quick tool for managing email communication to groups"
Pros: Direct Mail's native application interface is so much smoother to use and quicker than online systems. I regularly use MailChimp and HubSpot for outbound email as well, but for certain purposes Direct Mail is a real winner. It's really a good tool for designing nice looking email newsletters. The reporting is pretty good as well. There's a really elegant mixture of cloud-based services (the email sending and report viewing) and native application.
Cons: I do wish it was a little easier to share control of campaigns and lists with another Mac users.
Alternatives Considered: HubSpot Marketing Hub
Switched From: Mailchimp
Reasons for Switching to Direct Mail: DirectMail was quicker and easier, and didn't require me to coordinate with other Mailchimp campaigns and users.
