AIM (AOL Instant Messenger)
AOL instant messenger (AIM) was one of the first instant messaging services around. It allowed individuals to instantly message each other and communicate via text message. Later versions of the service expanded, allowing individuals to send files, pictures, and emojis. The service originally came with America Online (AOL), but later expanded to be a free, stand-alone service. It was discontinued in 2017.
What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About AIM (AOL Instant Messenger)
Small businesses do not have to worry about what AIM is, as the service is no longer in existence. However, its initial success helped to set the stage for future technological innovations. AIM showed that instant messaging could be very successful and in high demand. In many ways, it served as the forerunner for instant messaging services that businesses use today.
