Advanced Shipment Notice (ASN)
An ASN is an electronic notification that tells customers important information about their shipment. Organizations send this documentation in an electronic format called electronic data interchange (EDI). It contains information about the shipment and its contents, including:
Product quantities
Shipment weight
Customs or tax information
The date (and often time) of dispatch
The name of the courier transporting the shipment
The expected delivery date
A tracking number for any inquiries about the delivery
What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Advanced Shipment Notice (ASN)
SMBs might send ASNs to customers via email or text after a shipment leaves a warehouse or other facility. It improves service by providing customers with insights into their shipments, which can boost the organization's reputation and increase transparency throughout supply chain and logistics processes.
