Capterra Glossary

Baud

Baud (Bd) is a unit of data transmission that is used when referring to signal speed. Specifically, it refers to the number of times a signal will change per second. Like other units of measurement when it comes to transmission, a higher baud means a higher signal speed. Bauds are used to calculate transmission rates for computers and modems. Bauds are typically described as BPS, or bauds per second.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Baud

Bauds are most commonly used with modems, and a small business may be familiar with these terms in that capacity. They are typically expressed as kBd, MBd, or GBd. Small business users should have a basic familiarity with this term. They should also understand that the higher a baud, the stronger and faster their internet connection will be.
