Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) is technology that uses computer software and computer-controlled machinery to automate and facilitate the manufacturing of goods. The purpose of CAM is to speed up production, increase accuracy, and reduce waste when compared to non-CAM processes. CAM is often used in combination with computer-aided design (CAD).

Some of the first commercial applications of CAM were at large automotive and aerospace companies. Today, even small businesses can take advantage of CAM to optimize their manufacturing processes. Using CAM reduces a business' need to recruit or train skilled human machine operators, improves consistency in the manufacturing process, and allows for faster production of large amounts of product. Using CAM can also reduce costs as it requires less raw materials and energy.
