Client/server

Client/server is a form of computer network architecture that allows several different clients (known as remote processors) to receive service from one central server or host computer. This type of network is commonly used for web services, hosting games, and creating private networks that extend across organizations. Alternatively, a peer-to-peer network architecture does not use a central server and grants all devices on the network the same levels of access, authority, and functionality.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Client/server

Many SMBs use the client/server network model to create private networks within their businesses. This is because SMBs typically have limited financial resources, and this approach is more cost-effective and allows their business to scale over time without restructuring the existing network.
