DAP (Directory Access Protocol)
Directory access protocol (DAP) is a computer and internet standard. It is an older one, having first been promulgated in 1988. At the time, it was used to access X.500 directory services by client computer systems. The use of X.500 directory services gave client computers the ability to access a variety of other electronic devices and directories.

The X.500 protocols have been improved and innovated almost countless times since 1988. As such, the original directory access protocol has long since become outdated and remodeled to be more efficient. Most of the functions of X.500 protocols were replaced by X.509v3. Even when it was popular and widely used, it was a highly technical process that seldom applied to small businesses.
