Digital Watermarking

Digital watermarking refers to embedding a piece of data—known as a watermark—onto a file. This file can be an audio file, an image, or a movie. The addition of a digital watermark shows ownership of the file, and the mark is difficult or impossible to remove. In theory, this makes it impossible for another individual to use that file for free. Proper purchasing is thus required before a file can be used.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Digital Watermarking

Digital watermarks are a critical piece of technology. They allow individuals who create data or works of art to maintain ownership and credit. Small businesses must ensure that their digital creations have the correct watermark to prevent thefts. To respect ownership rights, a small business must look to purchase files created by others. These purchases usually allow for the removal of a digital watermark.
