Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS)

Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) was a technology that came to rise shortly after the first Short Messaging Service (SMS). It was meant to serve as an extension of text messaging. It had many advantages over traditional SMS services. This included sending pictures, icons, and alternative fonts. Ultimately, Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) eclipsed the need for EMS after adopting many of the functions of EMS.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS)

If EMS were not obsolete, it could have been used as a form of text message marketing. Messages could be sent using EMS that could have included forms of multimedia, thus providing small businesses with a more engaging form of text message. Many of these uses have since been incorporated as part of Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS).
