Microgrid

Microgrids are small-scale, low-voltage power systems with distributed energy sources, storage devices and controllable loads. They are independent, self-sufficient systems that serve small geographical areas such as a college campus, hospital complex, or a single neighborhood.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Microgrid

Microgrids contain one or more energy sources, including solar panels, generators, wind turbines, etc. and some allow for energy storage, usually through batteries. Some microgrids now serve as charging stations for electric vehicles. These microgrids are scalable and can be more affordable than regular grids, which makes them a practical choice for smaller operations such as SMBs that want more control over their energy source.
