Subnet

As the name implies, a subnet is a part of a computer or data network. A subnet is still physically located in a different portion to the main network.  This means that is not joined to the main network and resides elsewhere. The subnet does have certain commonalities with the main network. For example, it will share the same address. However, it will also have a subnetwork number that will note the differentiation.

What Small and Midsize Businesses Need to Know About Subnet

There are many reasons a small business may require a subnet. For example, they may need to wall off portions of their network from a larger portion. This may be necessary if enhanced security is required. This is common during certain activities, such as research. It may also be cheaper for a small business to use a subnet of a larger network, rather than purchase a network on their own.
