The trainings are beneficial, covering many important aspects of librarianship. However, the interface has an outdated feel, and some functions could be designed better. Pros It was geared towards training LIBRARY staff, it was relatively easy to use, and it allowed access to \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] Homeless Library trainings. Cons The interface feels a bit clunky and outdated. It feels like it needs a facelift, and it seems like it could have greater functionality. It is also very easy for staff using shared computers to be automatically logged in under a previous user, which created a lot of problems during initial setup/training. Administrative Assistant Libraries Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Staff and Patron Training Database" January 12, 2023 4.0 So far we have had a very positive experience with Niche Academy and look forward to utilizing it better and promoting it more widely to our patrons in the coming year. We have had low usage rates but this is mostly due to the fact that we have only purchased it in the past several months and have not yet had time to launch a true promotion of it as a service. Staff are still becoming comfortable with their roles in using Niche and they are gradually becoming more familiar with creating content and embedding it. Pros I appreciate Niche Academy's 'marketplace' library of pre-created lessons and content, which allow for us to curate our academies based on the programs, services, and databases we provide. We can edit lessons to customize them to our library and our patrons' needs, and create our own courses and tutorials to show patrons how to use our Library of Things items or to demonstrate our take and make crafts. The videos can be directly embedded in our website next to the descriptions of the items or databases, allowing patrons to easily find information on what an item is or how to use our e-book databases. Cons The admin side of the programs takes some time as a learning curve. There are different tiers of administration that allow a user to do different things, and only certain users can create the embeddable content that goes on the website. The creation of new tutorials is also restricted to only certain users. Most of this needs to be done by all of our staff, so they have all been given very high level roles simply to allow them to do the work that we intended. Review Source SS Sarah S. We use it to provide good content to our staff. We do not use it for customers. It's not a true LMS since it doesn't have the complete functionality of other LMS'. The leadership team at Niche is wonderful and always able and willing to help. Pros For us access to good content for libraries is available in Niche. We still need to vet the material but there is a lot of good content on the platform. They also are the sole provider of \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] content which we value and use. Cons The marketplace does not have vetted content. Sometimes accessing Niche content through our LMS requires a few steps for individuals to access. Reason for choosing Niche Academy Because Niche's content is more directly relevant to libraries and non-profits. Review Source AM Austin M. There are a lot of great resources, opportunities to implement staff training and patron assistance, and ongoing professional development options. However, greater customization with regard to the training options and administrative access would be helpful. Pros What I like most about this software is the ability to help patrons navigate our online resources and the ability to offer staff training through an online system. Cons The staff training system is limited in terms of the options available for recording videos and setting up administrators. For instance, there is an option to appoint administrators and trainees, but there is not a mid-level tier for certain administrative access (such as appointing a manager to be able to review employee progress in the training, but not have access to create courses or modules). Reason for choosing Niche Academy We were not aware of Paylocity's training resource at the time, but it has come to our attention fairly recently and may have greater customization for training projects. January 13, 2023 5.0 I really love Niche Academy and the ability to create categories and learning pathways. I am one trainer in an organization of 200 employees so I could not provide the same amount or level of training and development without Niche. Pros I love that there is an option to build our own modules, access free ones from the marketplace, and the customer support is amazing! It easily tracks who has begun and completed trainings and provides great reporting. Cons It is hard to tell where information comes from, some of our users prefer cited sources. Our staff find if very easy to use, and we are doing a lot more CE because of it. Pros Very easy to use, well-designed training portal. Very easy to assign and keep track of progress. I love the Niche Academy created content, which seems to be produced more frequently lately. Customer service is always quick and helpful. Additionally, the best thing about it is was the collaborative content from other organizations that became available. Also liked the sponsored content that was sent on different topics. Pros I love the information that Niche Academy provides, I feel that the classes and the instructors that they provide are superb beyond any other software or company out there. Cons The timing of classes are not always accurate as Niche Academy provides services all over the world, sometimes time zones are a factor. In addition glitches are a ongoing struggle at times. I've found that there is good support and the company is responsive when I needed assistance. Pros I love the fact that there are two separate academies, staff and public. I like the fact that libraries can share courses with each other and the fact that you can upload your own as well as have the tutorials that are done by Niche themselves. The selection is outstanding. Cons The search function could be improved. I very rarely find exactly what I'm looking for with the simple keyword searching. January 12, 2023 5.0 Pros I am of the opinion that all of the features are most impactful because I go refer back to my library of attended webinars and trainings, the certificates can be printed at any time, and I can go back to get a review of the previously watched webinars and/or trainings. Pros I appreciate the ease of navigating my own learner portal with Niche Academy. It is simple to review past learning and see what steps still need to be taken along a professional development track. Pros This software makes it easy to customize tutorials for our students. It has been more user-friendly than similar products and allows us to directly link to our own content. Cons I wish there were more customization features available for the content editing and/or more formats available. Reason for choosing Niche Academy Cost and ease of use. As mentioned earlier the ability to stop and restart a lesson from the same point is appreciated. Cons For whatever reason, possibly to do with reclassification or retitling of the courses, some of the courses I initially completed in our staff academy now show no completion. Pros That the seem to go a great pace and you can pause it to catch upand then restart it. With the exception of a few glitches, I found the software easy to use and functional. Pros The software is easy to use; adding staff to the academy and assigning training was easy too. Cons Although adding staff and assigning tutorials is easy, I found that the software to do this was sometimes clunky. I assigned some tutorials to staff, and they said they could not access the tutorials to watch. I had to re-assign the training tutorials again for it to work. Reason for choosing Niche Academy It was software that was part of a subscription our organization uses, so we had to sign up through the Niche Academy. Review Source KH Kristen H. That makes it very easy for the learner to find exactly what they want to learn. I also enjoy how easy it is to work through the courses. Cons Getting to the stats I use every month is a little difficult to remember, but I have it written down.
