My overall experience with sessions health has been positive, and I would recommend it to fellow clinicians.

Pros

Sessions health has been my go to EHR. The platform is intuitive. It does everything that I need and want to do. My clients find it easy to navigate in. The price is positioned perfectly for a small practice owner.

Cons

Some features around sending documentation to clients can be difficult at times but after a few repetitions, it got easy.

Fantastic. As I stated above, it’s intuitive, well thought out, and customer service has been great.

Pros

I like that I can tell therapists developed Sessions Health. It feels intuitive from a practitioner perspective that other EHRs I’ve used have been sorely lacking. My current favorite thing is a new feature where you can see at a glance on the calendar if the progress note has been written for an appt or not. I’ve also reached out to customer service a handful of times and they’ve been super prompt and helpful! But truly best of all, in mine and many, many, other therapists opinions is that they have not added ANY AI to the platform. This is such an incredible rarity these days and I’m so grateful for it. I don’t have to worry about my client’s privacy being violated by some awful planet ruining AI machine using their personal info to “learn”. Truly, so refreshing.

Cons

I don’t have any complaints. I will say that I don’t use the insurance part of it (I use different platform for that billing) so I can’t speak to how that works.

I am delighted with Sessions Health and I plan to be a consumer for a long time. I am happy with the workflow overall and the customer service is top notch!

Pros

Sessions Health helps me do my job to the highest capacity while keeping privacy at the helm of mental health care. It also is affordable and I own a practice with an economic justice initiative so I do not have a large buffer for additional overhead.

Cons

At times, there are some clunky aspects of the charting system, especially working with families who have multiple children that we see, but one primary parent who needs access to multiple charts.

### "I couldn't imagine doing Private Practice without using Sessions Health."

In the past, I used Therapy Notes and it was not as convenient, didn't have as many features, and the support staff did not try to accommodate any requests. Now using SH, I feel more equip to focus on my clients then worry about some of the logistics of EHR. Anytime someone is needing a EHR, I tell them all the benefits of SH and nothing else compares!

Pros

The ease of each feature. The support staff is always quick to respond and helpful. Clients report using SH is very user friendly and easy to navigate. I love how much I can do within SH, but it does not seem overwhelming or confusing. I also love the price (especially how it has not changed, minus taxes) and how the calendar syncs to my personal calendar!

Cons

There is no app for therapist or clients. When accepting a portal request, it takes you to the note page which does not make any sense. I wish it took us to the calendar to view the appointment instead. - When looking at our calendar view, instead of arrows for 1 week at a time, I wish there was a calendar pop up to help select a day/time instead of clicking 1 week at a time.

Sessions Health is easy for my clients to use, my learning curve was low, it has no confusing bloat, the app works well, and customer service is fast to respond.

Pros

My favorite thing about Sessions Health is how easy it is to learn how to use. I'm legally blind but the website and app are both easy to learn and navigate. I've used Athena, Insync, Simple Practice, and Epic, but Sessions Health is my favorite (because ease of learning curve). It has all the things I need and no bloat.

Cons

I wish the remittance and ERA setup process was more straight forward and integrated. I dread that entire process and it seems some other EMRs have this better handled.

Reason for choosing Sessions Health

Sessions Health works with insurance companies and shows you remittance inside the EMR. Some don't do that surprisingly. They have basically all the features of Simple Practice, but is more intuitive in my opinion. It's also not overwhelming or clunky like Athena and Epic; it has exactly what I need and none of what I don't bloating my page, like those have. Those two may be great for hospitals (no they're not but hospitals use them anyway lol) but terrible for a provider who doesn't offer medicine and has less than 10 employees.

I have been using Sessions for over 2 years, and it has helped my business in the ways that I had hoped. As my practice grew, I need more organization and automation.

Pros

Session has been highly customizable, and easy to use. As a queer and trans provider, who works with many LGBTQIA+ folx, I have been able to build forms that are affirming. The Sessions staff have been friendly and really helpful. Especially in the beginning when I was learning. They also have so much helpful information on the website. Sharing forms and intake documents has been simple, and my clients have not had any issues. Overall it is a great EHR, has what I need to run my practice, and the price is far better than other EHRs.

Cons

Learning how to set up, and use Sessions wasn't very intuitive, but there was so much information, that I was able to learn, and now it feels like it flows well.

It was an Incredibly smooth transition for me to switch from simple practice to sessions. I recommend it to every therapist I chat with!

Pros

The intuitive nature of it and the price point!! I love that my calendar is color coded and that it’s not overly complicated!

Cons

I’d love this AI feature I’ve heard about for the following session! Not sure what it’s called but I think the beta group has it! No issues but that would be a nice feature!

Overall, I have been happy with Session Health. The platform itself has been more reliable and easier to navigate than others I have used, and they have not gone up in price in the two years I have used them.

Pros

The platform is intuitive and easy to use, the telehealth has been reliable, and clients have said they like the portal better than my previous platform. It has all the features I need and is reasonably priced. Also, the customer service has been great! Outages have been very rare and are fixed quickly when they do happen.

Cons

They are missing what I think are basic features--read receipts for secure messages, a daily agenda email. They are updating things pretty frequently, but a lot of updates have been for features I don't use.

Therapy Notes had too many unnecessary features for me, and I wanted something simple. Owl was a close second, but was too new and I didn't know anyone who used it. SH was recommended by colleagues and the commitment to transparent policies and fair pricing was appealing.

I've been happy. I switched over during the mass exodus from the other popular platform and can't believe how easy Sessions made it. I recommend to anyone I know who is starting their own practice.

Pros

It has just what I need to be in private practice. I love the online support for when I have questions, an admin from Sessions Health will respond to help troubleshoot. The data import when I joined Sessions Health was amazing, I didn't have to figure it out on my own.

Cons

I've accidentally minimized the video during a session and there was no way for me to find It again to open it. I wished there was a way to have the video screen be something that could be its own popup screen to move it entirely out of the way for me to use the entire EHR.

Pros

I like how user friendly it is, how easy it was to transfer old data, and the updates that are being made regularly. The reminders for clients are great. I also like that there is currently no AI feature - I do not want that option in my clinical practice.

Cons

I would like to have some way to see what my clients see when I set up their client portal, send reminders, etc. Like an administrator function. When I first set it up I just used a fake client account to test things out as I was getting used to the system.

I am a private practitioner and have used lots of different EMR systems - BestNotes, TheraNest, Simple Practice, and PracticeQ. I think Sessions Health is the best value, as it includes most, if not all, of the features of the high end systems, but at a much lower cost. I also use the telehealth and billing features through Sessions Health, and they are so easy to use and great to have integrated into the same system.

Pros

I love the ease of use, intuitive nature of the system, great features, regular improvements, quick and friendly customer support, ease of billing (including a couple clicks to bill insurance companies), the telehealth option, and low cost.

Cons

There's not much I dislike; I haven't ever regretted choosing Sessions Health! I have recommended it to colleagues as well.

The price was the biggest factor. The other EMRs were much more expensive and didn't seem to offer a product that was worth the added cost since Sessions Health was able to compete with similar features at a lower cost.

Sessions Health is the EHR that I have come to rely on for the past 1.5 years for my business needs. The interface is easy to use and navigate. I appreciate the additions over the past 1.5 years that have helped make clinicians' lives easier. Sessions Health has always been up front about billing and helpful when navigating insurance issues.

Pros

I appreciated the affordability of the product. Customer service was beneficial and responsive to questions. The feedback provided by customer service was easy to understand and did not require further follow-up.

Cons

Using the insurance section was a bit confusing when trying to find the correct insurance plan from the listed options. Creating note templates was a bit cumbersome, but customer service tried to provide suggestions.

Pros

Ease of use, it's super intuitive! The support is very prompt in answering questions. The YouTube library takes out a lot of the guess work!

Their customer service is great. You can easily access a live person who responses within a few hours versus other sites where they continuously lead you to FAQ pages or have you submit a question that someone responds to several days later with a non-answer to what you ask.

Cons

I wish there was a better way to integrate Availty or other insurance sites to check insurance coverage. I'd love to be able to do all of my benefits checking through one site.

I was with another software company for 5 years and chose to make the switch and had so much support and help with setting everything up. Detailed instructions, prompt responses to requests for assistance and help customizing forms and billing issues were all vital to making this work.

Pros

Their customer service is like no other company I have worked with and particularly an EMR. Above all else, a quick response, considerate questions and thoroughness are most important to me. I also wanted to have the auto scoring assessments like I did previously in my EMR and they just started adding those which makes life much easier.

Cons

I would like the interface to have a bit more variability in fonts and bold typeface to help some things stand out better in note templates and the client charts.

When I had issues with features and needed assistance I could not get help in a timely manner and then dysfunctional communication regarding system wide issues that resulted in missing sessions with clients happened a few too many times.

### "Best EHR I have used"

Sessions Health has been the best EHR I have used. I have probably used at least a half dozen at this point in my career. The interface is user friendly, it has plenty of assessment tools, and is great for a solo practitioner or smaller group practices. I have used others that are overly complicated, which can be frustrating.

Pros

I like that it is owed locally to me as well as by a mental health provider. The interface is really easy to use. It has been easy to train new interns on.

Cons

The only cons I have really run into is when trying to adjust for a non-billed late cancelation or in trying to discern income from a particular provider over a certain time. It would be ideal to have in the income allocation section, a running total at the bottom for a given period. It would also be beneficial if supervisors could go in and make small edits to case notes, for things such as minor typing errors.

Straightforward and intuitive to use. Nothing extraneous. Support is open to suggestions for tweaks and improvements.

Pros

Reasonably priced, user friendly, and responsive support to improve user experience. I love that I don’t pay if I have less than 3 clients but I don’t lose access to data.

Cons

There is nothing I don’t like about SH. Its layout and options are clearly outlined. I’ve used other EHRs and this is the most user friendly.

### "Big functionality for my mini practice"

It’s been really solid and is a system I actively recommend to colleagues when they’re soliciting feedback.

Pros

The functionality of it, the color scheme isn’t distracting or obnoxious, and their customer support team is quick to respond with clear answers. I also really love being able to make custom progress note templates.

Cons

As a solo practitioner it’s worked exactly how I need it to. A few more tutorial videos explaining insurance billing or highlighting features that would be extra helpful for someone new to having their private practice would be cool too.

Positive! I feel like Sessions is responsive when I have issues, they provide helpful updates and don't push upgrades that are not relevant or necessary, the price is appreciated and the ability to be trans-inclusive has been a game changer.

Pros

Simple and easy to use. Also allows for customization options that I appreciate.

Cons

I wish it was an app so that some clients could have an easier time accessing it

### "Worth the switch"

I have been very pleased that I made the switch from a different EHR over a year ago.

Pros

Ease of use. Pricing is much better than competitors. Migration from previous system was fast and easy.

Cons

I would prefer an app to check from my mobile device.
