Pros I think ExpiWell provides an intuitive interface for designing and conducting ESM studies. I also think it is one of the more reasonably priced platforms for conducting such research. Cons I wish that I could test out features within ExpiWell more easily. For example, I could only test out certain logic in my surveys by signing up for my own study, rather than by using a feature to allow easier and faster testing. I think it's well worth considering for researchers interested in conducting intensive longitudinal studies. The platform is already quite strong, and it's clear that the team is committed to continuing to improve it. Pros The best part of my experience with ExpiWell was the staff. They were incredibly helpful and responsive. They offered guidance on setting up tricky aspects of my project (e.g., scheduling surveys the way I needed) and were quick to provide assistance throughout data collection (e.g., helping troubleshoot issues participants were having with the app). I also appreciate that the team has continued to make substantial improvements to the platform. I was happy to see a bunch of new features and capabilities they've added since I last used ExpiWell in 2022. It's apparent that they are always looking for ways to improve. Cons As with any intensive longitudinal study, technical issues will likely come up. During data collection, some participants encountered issues with the app (e.g., not being able to receive or submit surveys, having difficulty signing in). The data seems to be clearly collected, and the skip logic seems to work really well. Cons I think some small things bother me, and maybe it is because I don't fully know how to use, but I simetimes wished I could choose what people see on the screen (like display two questions that are on a sliding scale on the same page, or have another option other than either matrix or drop down for multiple options - these are highly specific and I don't think I am explaining it well so happy to try again) and be able to download all the surveys into one excell other than separate excell sheets based on the different kinds of surveys. Cons ExpiWell places limits on how much data you can collect within one project. You can only have one integration (location data, Fitbit data, or Apple Watch), which limits feasibility by requiring participants to enroll in multiple projects to collect multiple types of data.
