I had customer support during every phase of study set up, piloting, data collection, participant payments, and analyses. I am forever thankful for Omar Pineda's extra mile help. There were mornings when I was overwhelmed by a flood of Facebook ad-driven onboarding that did not have USA GPS. He helped me with study compliance issues. Thank you Expiwell! Pros Expiwell practices a "makers and takers" ethic. That is, participants and researcher are in a relationship during the data collection. This respect for participants as people inspired my doctoral ESM study. Secondly, Expiwell offered me an affordable graduate student price with all of the services I needed. Thirdly, Expiwell made incentivizing and paying participants easy. I collected national data using social media to generate a sample. Thank you Expiwell! Cons Notification issues on smartphones took extra time, given nearly 1000 logging into my study. These were mostly settings issues about giving Expiwell app permission to notify. But there were cases where we just couldn't figure out why the app wasn't sending notifications. During my study, the app homepage was a bit confusing for participants. It said "you have completed all your experiences for today," "current," and "discover" and some participants didn't know if they were done for the day or not. Yes, a lot of the notification settings require the onboarding of participants to ensure that they are not switching notifications to silent or having timed profiles where they switch it off. April 25, 2023 5.0 Overall, ExpiWell is a flexible and user-friendly survey software that I wholeheartedly endorse. The program is aesthetically pleasing, simple to use, and offers a wide range of options for designing a unique survey.We also very much appreciated ExpiWell’s open feedback culture in always developing, getting better, and closing gaps in the experience sampling industry! Pros Recently, our research team got the chance to conduct an experience sampling study using ExpiWell, and I must admit that I was very impressed with the platform. The abundance of survey options, which enabled us to tailor our study to meet our particular needs was one of ExpiWell's most notable features. Also, the platform’s interface and dashboard were a big benefit because it made the results simple to comprehend and analyze.The calendar displays are visually pleasing and extremely helpful. In addition to that, ExpiWell provides options for static surveys, timed ones, or event-based surveys. This was a huge help in adjusting our schedule accordingly. Cons As a minor remark, for future updates to the Expiwell app, it would be beneficial to have the ability to change variable labels directly in Expiwell. Overall I enjoy the ability to customize surveys and engage in research through this method. The customer service is quick in response and always helpful. Pros ExpiWell provides an opportunity to engage with research participants daily without concern about email tracking or message receipt. I appreciate the ease of using ExpiWell as both a user on the research team side and the ease that participants have expressed in using the platform. Cons The cost of using ExpiWell as a subscription can sometimes be an inconvenience when there are barriers within my company to getting the research started. Pros Easy to use and quick service support are the features I like the most about ExpiWell. Cons The functionality of the APP is not stable (especially in the Android system), as reported by my participants. As you may know from my email, many of my participants reported that they were unable to successfully use the APP while participating in my project (i.e., the APP quit unexpectedly, they were unable to click on the options in the APP, the wrong question item appeared in the APP). Although the problems were solved after reporting them to the support system, some unexpected errors in the operation of the APP just keep occurring. This problem definitely affects my study process. I have not yet administered my surveys, but the survey building phase, which is a heavy lift, has been made pleasant due to Expiwell's responsiveness. Pros I am in the process of setting up my daily surveys, and I have already appreciated how responsive the support team is. They've responded within 24-hours and are enthusiastic about assisting with any questions I have. Cons That some features cannot be disabled, even if those features could potentially confuse participants. Associate Professor Higher Education Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Unique set of features" March 22, 2023 5.0 Pros We needed an experience sampling survey platform that would let us send multiple daily notifications to participants AND could prompt users to upload videos. Some other survey software out there lets users upload images/videos as attachments, but the process is really clunky. Expiwell is a much more seamless experience for video uploads, and works on both Android/iOS phones. We had a brief outage where videos weren't uploading, and the Expiwell customer service team was incredibly responsive in troubleshooting and resolving the problem. Cons ExpiWell isn't as full featured as something like Qualtrics that has been around forever and is used in a lot of ways. Some aspects of the participant enrollment process are a bit quirky—it's not as easy as sending someone to a URL. It was user-friendly, easily customizable, and well-received by study participants. Furthermore, the customer support team was very easy to reach and highly responsive. Overall this is a good product that I would you again. Pros I liked that Expiwell has pretty straight forward in terms of setting up surveys, activating them, and downloading data files (csv). Cons I was bummed that I did not have access to text message surveys and that my participants needed to download an app to complete the surveys. I also did not love how there was not a simple way to link this data to other data collection tools (like REDCap). March 22, 2023 4.0 Overall, Expiwell is helpful and user-friendly tools for research. It would be better if all mentioned bugs are fixed. Pros Expiwell platform is user-friendly and there are various kinds of question types which are suitable for research. Cons The price is a bit high if you want to use some functions that are required in research. There are some bugs occasionally, e.g., participants did not receive the survey, the app said you have not responded to a question even though you have already done, and the pop up of choices for grid question disappear quickly when you move your smartphone.
