It helps us, professionals, get the messsaeg accross to the public and to the client in the simplest form. Cons It is a very heavy software that caused my device to crash multiple tiem while building the cross sections or rendering them. It is also very expensive. As a graphic designer who works for a transportation engineering firm, this is exactly what we need! Other 3D programs do not focus on this aspect specifically and require a lot more time to build something that is actually more streamlined. Cons In our experience thus far the free trial in the Cloud version and/or Mac version has limitations with rotation and angle tools. However the PC install version works great. Pros The animation and quality of the 3d renders look great! Cons Certain capabilities, It would be nice to have certain functions like being able to lock the camera in position. When scrolling through assets if I reach the bottom of the list the scroll function causes the 3d view to move which can be a pain if I have a picture already composed the way I want. I understand I can save a camera view, but my issue with saving camera views is, If I save a camera view and then I add more sections to my 3d render then I have to readjust it all over again because the camera view isn't correct anymore. Clients have been very impressed with our animated graphics from Beyond Typicals. I also like the ability to customize sections and camera views. Cons It is hard to modify some features/assets, it would be nice if they could be modified by clicking and dragging the mouse. I would also like to be able to just copy and paste custom assets from other files. It would also be nice to be able to do intersections, even if the vehicles on the intersecting streets are not animated. The Beyondware team does a great job of listening to their users. Pros The software is so easy to use. Almost anyone in our company can load the software and create beautiful 3D content in minutes. Great visualizations in a short amount of time. The Beyondware team is great to work with and quick to respond to any questions or problems. Cons I would say the demand on the computer is pretty high. But I think this will change in future releases. Plus a cloud version may be an option in the future. I keep thinking about the many ways I could see this being beneficial to my job, my company and industry. Pros The pros include the ability to learn from the many examples, the YouTube support, and the support team. The software is always surprising me with the levels of detail and I see more potential for how it can be used to help my company and clients. Cons There are a lot of decisions to make and options to click, but in the end, it is art but the time to build and render is amazingly fast compared to tools of the past. Beyond Typicals hits the sweet spot between 2d illustration software and 3d visualization software. You can't do everything, but that's a strength because it keeps the software easy to use and learn. Pros Really easy to use, nice library of 3d objects. The photo compositing works well. Cons I'd like more font choices for the labels. It would be nice if I could have the section hold at the centerline as lanes etc. are added. If I'm not adding equally to both sides I need to keep adjusting the alignment offset - for example to hold an existing curb. It's pricy, if you buy it , use it a lot. Cons Unfortunately the software does use a lot of my computer life/battery, even though I use a powerful machine. Pros Produce high quality renders in a short amount of time. Beyond typical helps to sell ideas of design to our clients because it really helps them to understand the final design. Cons Labeling is somewhat not as intuitive as it could be. A language selection would be awesome (french). It would be great if the cut and fill would change name according to your unit choice (metric vs imperial) since the name of the cut represents a value in feets. Reason for choosing Beyond Typicals In fact I use Beyond typicals for helping clients decide between design options. It's great that we can compare impacts, different components all from the same realistic view. Pros 3D Views, the vast library of components and items. The ease to place items. We appreciate all ongoing developments that have improved the product month-to-month. The development calendar looks great to see what all is intended for the future. Cons I've been asked a couple times if we could show an intersection or roundabout in Beyond Typicals. My response is no, and it makes sense because that wouldn't really be a "typical section", more a full visual. Cons I find that using the software really slows down my computer, even after getting a new, higher powered computer with the proper specs. There are also a few things that are difficult (or impossible) to do with Beyond Typicals that would be really helpful - such as drawing a bridge over a roadway, or generating an interseciton. Pros It provides good visualization for public engagement. It's pretty straight forward. Cons It gets a little glitchy at times. For example, I was just using it today and it would not let me physically select the sections so I had to use arrows to select the typical section. Additionally, the label text do not update immediately and sometimes exits out the left popup window with all the formating. Once or twice the program has crashed on me. I wish the Total Width function could subtract areas outside the road bed, such as buildings I place on the side. Especially as it was easy to learn, deploy and also facilitates communication with the public. Sometime the software crashes for some reason and sometimes it does not.
