### "Very pleased with Buttondown"

June 6, 2023

5.0

I'm very pleased. The support is outstanding. When we encountered a problem, they responded right away and were very helpful.

Pros

Buttondown provides a very straightforward product that delivers exactly what we need.

Cons

A little more functionality would be nice, but considering the fact that it's free, I understand!

Reason for choosing Buttondown

A friend recommended.

### "API"

November 26, 2023

5.0

Pros

The reason I chose buttondown was simply the reason that I could upload emails in markdown with the API, other provider seemed to not have it or was way more complicated.

Cons

So far I haven't event sent an email but the API documentation could have more information and examples. Especially since it's so small, it should be easy enough to make it near perfect.

### "Terrific product, ethical and responsive management. The ethical alternative to substac"

September 18, 2023

5.0

Overall it's a great service run in an exceptionally user-friendly and ethical way.

Pros

Responsive and time-generous support, excellent value for money, confidence that my subscribers' data and attention will not be misused or mined for others' commercial gain. Fairly easy to set up.

Cons

Would love the ability to send a test email/newsletter to iron out glitches, especially when setting up a new newsletter. Setting up a newsletter took a little bit of figuring out - but as it's my first newsletter, I can't compare and was on a steep learning curve in any case. Very happy overall.

### "Buttondown ftw"

February 24, 2024

5.0

Pros

Beutifukly designed, quick to get in and out of, easy navigation. Lots of thoughtful features.

Cons

My initial newsletter had a weird mobile formatting issue that I needed help with.

Reason for choosing Buttondown

Simpler design with maybe less features was a win for me.

### "Does what it says on the tin"

January 14, 2024

Pros

Buttondown just works like it promises to. Deliverability is high. Markdown is great.

Cons

The lower level price points don’t have much flexibility for a small to medium list size.

Dollars and usability. Dollars were less and usability is through the roof.

### "A great start"

January 14, 2024

5.0

Not been here long but I'm really enjoying it so far, can't wait to grow here.

Pros

I liked how flexible it was, including the ability to set pay-what-you-can subscriptions.

Cons

It took a while to get used to the UI, but that was fine once I got used to it.

### "Great product. Excellent customer service. Highly customizable"

January 2, 2024

5.0

I've only used Buttondown for about a week: I'm still setting up my newsletter. But migration from Substack was easy. \[sensitive content hidden\] is attentive and responsive. Really great experience so far.

Pros

Ease of use. Copious documentation. Intolerance of hate speech. Straightforward pricing model.

Cons

Awaiting implementation of subscriber commenting.

### "Buttondown has been terrific for my work"

April 5, 2024

5.0

superb customer service ease of use for writing, editing and sending out my newsletters

Pros

the support I get when I reach out. I get an almost immediate response from a real person with a name and I can ask for help as often as I need it...as an 80 year old writer who is not tech savvy, this means a lot to me.

Cons

there is nothing I dislike about button-down.

### "Simple and powerful with fantastic support"

June 19, 2023

5.0

Unlike almost every other provider in this space, Buttondown offers a purpose-built tool to manage newsletters as opposed to an entire platform with a head-spinning ecosystem of "features" that traps the user into a vortex from which they are unlikely to be seen again. Its focus on simplicity and privacy aligns with my values and allows me to concentrate on writing and sending emails. Whenever I needed help, support has been incredibly fast and thorough. With time, I'm sure the user experience will only get smoother and any rough edges in the interface will be addressed. I can't recommend it enough!

Pros

Purpose-built, privacy-first, simple, no-fluff tool.

Cons

The user interface can be laggy and a little confusing especially in the beginning, but this has in no way distracted me from the overall quality of Buttondown.

Pros

Very easy to setup. Very simple to customize and write emails in. Responsive support staff.

Cons

Sometimes templating emails is annoying, but I'm not sure if that's perfect anywhere.

Reason for choosing Buttondown

Buttondown is a very good value. I also prioritize simplicity.

### "Very powerful and customizable newsletter software"

December 28, 2023

5.0

Pros

Things I liked: - Customizable CSS - Custom urls for page asking people to confirm and final confirmation page - Support for HTML form so I can implement with consistent style on my website - Prompt customer service response - Send from custom domain is included in free tier - Tracking off by default - respectful of privacy

Cons

\- Settings interface is a little overwhelming - Took time for my upgrade to go into effect after purchasing - Price is a bit high for me since I am just using it for a personal newsletter (but with too many subscribers for the free tier). However it's well worth the money since they offer tons of customization that I wouldn't get elsewhere, and I want the company to do well and sustain themselves for many years, so I gladly pay for the lowest paid tier.
