Google AI Mode is one of the three assistants I track, and SearchApi is the only practical way to reach it. The integration took a couple of hours, the free tier was enough to validate the whole product before paying, and it is by far the cheapest of the three providers I call per answer. Straightforward, does what it says. Pros The Google AI Mode endpoint was the reason I picked SearchApi. There is no official API for AI Mode, and SearchApi returns the answer text together with the reference links as structured JSON, which is exactly what my product needs. It works from a Cloudflare Worker with a plain fetch, no SDK. Country and language targeting (gl/hl) works correctly - Polish queries come back in Polish with Polish sources. Latency was consistently around 11 seconds in my tests, faster than the LLM APIs I call alongside it, and I have not had a single failed request. Cons The answer text includes Google's citation markup and occasional interface strings, so I had to strip those before analysing the text. That is inherent to scraping a live page rather than a fault of the API, but a cleaned-text field alongside the raw one would save integrators the work. We adopted SearchApi to build a content-protection scanner for an intellectual-property platform, finding where our creators' novels, poems, manga, and artwork are copied across the web and social platforms. It replaced what would have been a stack of fragile, constantly breaking in-house scrapers with one reliable API, and the broad engine coverage, especially the non-Google engines where a lot of regional piracy lives, gave us recall we could not get from a single source. We went from idea to a working proof of concept in days, and the cost was low enough to justify moving to a real build. The few rough edges, mainly rate-limit pacing and a confusing credit display, never blocked us. I would recommend it to anyone who needs structured, multi-engine search data without maintaining scrapers. Pros The breadth of engines behind a single, consistent API. We could search Google, Bing, Baidu, Yandex, Naver, YouTube, TikTok, and Google Lens with the same auth and the same response shape, so covering both Western and Asian sources took one integration instead of half a dozen vendors. The data quality is a real plus too: clean, predictable JSON, with view counts as actual integers rather than strings you have to parse. Every engine ships a downloadable OpenAPI spec, which made integration fast and guesswork-free, and features like reverse image search and video transcripts let us verify matches, not just collect links. For the volume we need, it is well priced. Cons The hourly rate limit is the main friction. Wide, high-recall runs across many engines and pages have to be paced with backoff instead of fired all at once. The account endpoint also had a rough edge: right after we subscribed, it reported remaining credits as 0 while the plan allowance was correct, which looked like a failed purchase until a test call proved the key worked. Integration was easy — one GET, API key, JSON back. Quality of results is good enough that it became a core dependency, not a side experiment. The operational side is the real cost. Credits disappear faster than a dashboard makes obvious, and 429s cascade across background jobs. After we added key pooling and throttling, it has been stable. I would recommend it if you need multi-engine SERP data and you are willing to treat quota as a first-class ops concern. Pros The engine coverage. One REST endpoint (/api/v1/search) gives us Google organic, Google AI Overview, Google Shorts, TikTok Ads Library, and Instagram profile data. That let us plug search into brand intelligence, competitor discovery, and short-form video finding without a different vendor per surface. Responses are structured JSON, so parsing titles, links, and snippets is straightforward. Docs for params like engine and gl were clear enough to ship against quickly. Cons Quota and 429s at production volume. Once several workers hit the same endpoints, keys burn down and we start seeing exhausted pools. We had to add our own key rotation, credit tracking, Slack/email low-quota alerts, and a fleet-wide rate gate. A more predictable remaining-credit signal and higher sustained throughput (or clearer concurrency guidance) would have saved a lot of that plumbing. Geo params also need sanitizing — unsupported gl values fail unless we normalize them ourselves. Cons I didn't immediately see any clear tutorials so I had to use LLMs to build an understanding of what to do.
