Given that, it's been entirely worth the cost for me (even over an open source solution, none of which match the features and performance of SciChart, in my opinion). Pros I really appreciate SciChart's performance, feature set, and MVVM support. The documentation and examples are quite thorough and customer support has always been responsive and helpful. Cons There can be a little bit of a learning curve because of SciChart's flexibility. It's not bad, and once everything clicks, you're good. The MVVM-related documentation, while very useable, could be more thorough. Alternatives considered [Lucidchart](https://www.capterra.com/p/146136/Lucidchart/) Reasons for choosing SciChart (NOT LucidChart, but LightningChart, which wasn't on the list) I liked the API and documentation better than LightningChart, which also doesn't include a polar chart type in its equivalent subscription level (??). Pros It saved you a lot of time by making it easy to create professional, publication-ready charts. It was powerful enough to handle your complex 3D data and scientific visualizations. The interactive features were essential for exploring and demonstrating your research data. Cons Poor performance with 3D animations. Specifically, you found that in version 3, rendering 3D surface meshes with more than 800 data points became "noticeably slow," which affected the smoothness of your animations. V4 improve the 3D performance in terms of start time and less memory. However, V4 has similar 3D performance in other aspects as V3. I use a 2D chart to display a histogram of a thermal image in real time. There are also a variety of charts with many customization options so that any data can be displayed clearly. Academic licenses are available free of charge, and you always get a quick response from support. Cons The price would be quite high if I hadn't obtained an academic license, considering that I am currently only using one 2D diagram. The license is only granted for six months, and it is not easy to obtain or renew it. My project is long-term and progress is rather slow. When requesting a license renewal, everything about the project has to be described again, which takes time. It's OK that obtaining the academic license is more difficult. We do require some project details with each renewal so we can continue to justify the program internally, but we understand your point that the renewal process could be simpler, especially for longer-term projects at established universities. In our eyes SciChart is the only real option for our particular usecase. Is easy to set up, really good performing and we have had great developer support the whole way. Pros SciChart is without a doubt the best performing real time charting library. Also its the largest. Additionally the documentation is well written with lots of practical examples. Cons I found the documentation around what license key to use a bit overwhelming, as we struggled for a while figuring what type suits are needs. But this was not too bad.
