It is a fast and efficient way to create professional looking videos without the need for a full production setup. While there are some limitations with realism and customization the platform delivers strong results especially for marketing training and scalable content. It is a great tool if you value speed and simplicity. Pros What stood out most about HeyGen is how fast and easy it makes video creation. You can take a simple script and turn it into a polished professional looking video in minutes. The AI avatars are impressively realistic and the voice generation is good enough for real business use especially for marketing training and explainer content. The user interface is clean and intuitive which makes it accessible even if you do not have a background in video editing. Pros I like that they keep on innovating and adding features that make it easy to produce content. I actually just got an update earlier today. Cons I don't like paying for additional custom avatars as it adds up quick. I'd rather be able to invest more into credits to produce better overall quality content. August 6, 2026 3.0 Overall their service has gone from okay to good and now it's unacceptable. I don't even want to think about this but I may have to look for another AI video creation platform. Since this technology is still growing and changing, the backend of the company has to stay available for communication and the finance department has to remain open to reimbursing AI mistakes and errors. I don't think customer service or finance can create rigid rules and stick to them when the AI is still learning and making mistakes. Pros HeyGen's Avatar Shots is a great product that 70% of the time gives great results the first time. When the video isn't correct or needs to be regenerated HeyGen was good about reimbursing credits used to regenerage. Cons They recently did an update without notify and preparing their current customers. Avatar Shots wasn't listed on the "home page" and I had to go to the chat help to find how to use the product. Then I was unable to "generate" my video as the system was requiring me to upgrade...I had already upgraded months ago. Then I had over 3,000 credits that I had purchased that they took away and implemented a policy that credits could not be carried over so I lost all but 600 credits. Now, they refuse to refund credits for video shots where words are mispronounced. My appearance and my voice were far from being anything close or accurate. Cons What I liked least was the inconsistency and poor quality of the generated videos. My appearance would change between scenes, especially my hands, which sometimes had random accessories, incorrect details, or even distorted, unnatural looking fingers and hands. There are very frequent updates and new features (but it's not certain that this is a positive point if it's not well managed). Cons I’m a paying Hygen subscriber and have faced nothing but problems since day one. The platform is unstable, full of bugs, and every update seems to break something new. Latest issue: I spent three days creating an internal training video. After a simple text correction, the new version suddenly included constant keyboard typing sounds throughout the video. The entire project became unusable. The support is completely ineffective. I was passed from one agent to another with no real answers. One agent even told me he couldn’t find anything in their documentation—so I had to send him the link myself to Hygen’s own page explaining that transitions can include special effects like the “typewriter.” That option no longer exists in the interface, meaning it can’t be disabled. Pros heygen's new ai studio is great for quickly making movies. i type a story, choose an avatar, and in minutes i have a video that looks like it was made by a pro. it's cool that i can change how my avatar moves to fit the mood with motion control. lots of voices and more than 100 characters let me make things for my small business that look real. it also works great for social media clips. Cons when they say strange words, the lip sync can look a little off. also, the free plan only lets you make three short movies a month, which isn't enough to really test it. March 24, 2024 5.0 So far Heygen wins overall compared to all the other similar products I've tried. I just wish they would establish a single payment model for lifetime access. Some of their competitors are doing this. If they progress to Heygen's quality, I'll likely move to one of them, unless Heygen adopts a lifetime purchase plan. Pros I tried most other competing products. The biggest issue wuth the other products is the mouth of the avatar is not realistic to the recorded audio. Heygen has proven to be the best so far. Cons I am forced to record the required 3-5 minute video in order to move to the instant avatar feature. Heygen won't accept video with spliced scenes, so I will not be able to use any of my existing video for the sample. Not a huge deal, just have to take time to record a sample that qualifies.
