Mergin Maps is a cloud-based GIS solution that helps businesses collect and analyze geospatial field data through mobile devices. The tool allows users to collect points, lines, areas, and photos in the field. Captured data is stored in the cloud, changes are tracked, and updates from multiple users are merged automatically. It is a reliable, user-friendly, and efficient tool for field data collection and management. I have very few complaints. The availability of the Academic Plan with a larger storage capacity has made it even more useful for our projects, allowing us to manage large datasets without worrying about storage limitations. Pros What I liked most about Mergin Maps is its reliability and ease of use. The application works consistently without issues, even during fieldwork. The synchronization between mobile devices and the desktop is simple and efficient, making data collection and management seamless. I also appreciate the clean and intuitive interface, as well as the clear and attractive map visualization. In addition, the documentation and support website are very helpful, and the support team is responsive and provides useful assistance when needed. Cons One limitation is collaboration when multiple teams work offline in the same area. If one team completes or updates nearby survey points or polygons, the other teams cannot see those changes until everyone reconnects and synchronizes with the server. It would be very useful to have a way to share updates locally (for example, via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct, or another peer-to-peer connection) so that nearby teams could immediately see which areas have already been surveyed. Alternatively, an automatic synchronization or notification system between teams whenever one team makes changes would greatly improve coordination and help avoid duplicate work. Very handy to be able to share projects with contractors follwing the surveys. Everyone I share the MERGIN with is now adopting the software themselves and passing it onto others. The more people that uses it my industry the better as the compatilbility pool is increased amongst the client list. Perfect for surveys abroad but yet to do some, potentially some lined up in the south of France this year which will be a great trial. Pros Accurate GPS, Speedy updates and synchronizations. Ability to work with QGIS. Online tutorials are brilliant and so helpfull. The ability to share projects to multiple devices, colleagues and contractors.
