Overall, my experience has been positive, and I continue to use it because it genuinely reduces the burden of clinical documentation. It is particularly useful for capturing sessions and creating a strong starting point for progress notes. At the same time, clinicians need to treat the generated documentation as a draft rather than a finished clinical record. I routinely review and edit the output because AI-generated interpretations can occasionally contradict information contained elsewhere in the session or note. If Upheal continues improving the clinical reasoning and accuracy behind its documentation—not simply adding more features—I think it has the potential to be an exceptionally strong product. Pros I have used Upheal since 2023, and it has become a valuable part of my clinical documentation workflow. Its strongest feature is the amount of time it can save in note taking and documentation. I particularly appreciate having a transcript and an AI-generated clinical note to work from rather than having to reconstruct an entire session from memory afterward. The platform has continued to add features over the years, and overall it is intuitive and easy to incorporate into a psychotherapy practice. Cons The biggest weakness is that the AI-generated documentation is not always clinically accurate and therefore cannot simply be accepted without careful review. I have encountered inconsistencies within Mental Status Exam documentation—for example, automatically describing speech or mood as “normal” when other information from the same session clearly indicates otherwise. These kinds of contradictions matter in clinical records. I would like to see greater sophistication and internal consistency in how Upheal interprets clinical information rather than relying so heavily on standardized or default language.
