Coming from PlanSwift, ZZ has all the same features in a cloud based product with many additional features. Pros I am a big fan of the software being in the cloud. Being able to access takeoffs from any device connected to the internet is a game changer. Cons My least favorite thing about zzTakeoff is the inability to easily assign takeoffs to areas for reporting purposes. I came from OST and was reluctant to try something new. zzTakeoff was very easy to understand and apply what I could do in OST. Cons I did not like how I couldn't customize keystroke commands for zooming and panning similar to OST. But I found a workaround. Cons The only thing that I can come up with would be the fact that you cannot customize the key binds and have to use the pre-set ones. Other programs do not work well with excel. Pros I work for a concrete contractor and zzTakeoff has been an awesome program so far. It works well with the on screen take off with loaded drawings being clear. The ability to create an excel report makes entering data into our excel estimate template easy. Cons Have not found any issues with zzTakeoff so far. Their support team works fast to resolve any issues users have very fast. The best thing to happen was suggesting a change that, while small in general, was huge for my own personal quality of life and the developers implemented that change just a few days later. Pros How easy it is to use and how easy it is to keep a take off organized so it can be referenced later or by another person without confusion Cons there's maybe a few settings or options that don't yet exist that would be helpful but overall it's in a good spot. I would love to see an option to make the dimension tool read in different units like the linear tool has, rather than only in feet. I'd happily recommend it to anyone getting started with takeoffs. Pros Hands down, how easy and intuitive it is to use. I'm a beginner and I was up and running quickly without feeling lost or overwhelmed. On top of that, the team is awesome, genuinely nice, responsive, and helpful whenever I've needed a hand. That combination made a huge difference for me. Cons Honestly, nothing significant so far. As a newcomer I've had a great experience, so I don't have any real complaints. Support is incredible when it is needed. Nice to use with multiple style devices being web based. Wife was on MAC and wouldn't use PC for anything. Now she helps with no hassle. Can start on one machine (PC) and finish on another (MAC) or calibrate on same file which is huge. Should have switched over sooner. Since moving to ZZtakeoff, everything has gotten easier. We can share files, work in the same takeoff together, and run the whole thing in the browser. Our team members on Macs can now use it with no issues. The functionality is very similar to what we were already used to, so the switch was smooth. You can even treat it like a desktop app by installing it through Chrome or Edge. The team has been consistent with updates and keeps moving the software forward, and their community is active, not just for reporting issues but for discussing new features. The software has been great since we swapped over, and the community engagement has been just as positive. Pros Web-based, so there's no per-machine Windows install and Mac users are fully supported. Real-time file sharing and the ability to work in the same takeoff together. Functionality is familiar coming from PlanSwift, so there's little learning curve. You can install it like a desktop app through Chrome or Edge. Updates are consistent, and there's an engaged user community for both issues and feature discussion. Cons As far as takeoff software goes, we haven't run into any real issues with it. If I had to name something, it would be minor: as with any web-based tool, you need a reliable internet connection, but that hasn't been a problem for us. Cons The only issue I run into is accidently switching to box mode when trying to continue lines. I would put those options away from each other. We are still exploring more features, but the platform has already been useful for our daily takeoffs. Pros Easy to use, fast, and practical for construction takeoffs. The measurement tools are accurate, and the platform helps us organize quantities clearly and save time during estimating. Cons Like any other platform, setting up custom properties, lists, assemblies, and templates takes time. A larger ready-to-import database available would make the initial setup much easier. From the sales team to the developers, they are always giving their best. I work for a building supply company that is over 100 years old. Until I came onboard, they were performing their takeoffs like they had for the last 40 years. zzTakeoff has reduced our turn around time significantly. With new features like the joist tool and grid tool, it is going to reduce that time even more. Pros The customer service! From the very beginning, the zzTakeoff team has been so helpful. I can't think of another company that give you direct access to the developers of the program. Cons That more people in the construction industry do not know about zzTakeoff. I spoke with several other estimators and none of them had heard about zzTakeoff until I told them about it. From the first I heard about ZZ, I've been impressed. The more I interact with the platform and team, the more thankful I am that they created zzTakeoff. It seems far superior to any other estimating software I've investigated. Pros The many features and continual improvements to add more are awesome. The customizations are easy so we can create tools, templates, and reports for our companies needs. The team at ZZ are incredibly helpful. Cons I'd like to slightly modify a few of the preset properties, but can't. It's barely a complaint because it is so easy to create custom properties that function how I want. Coming from PlanSwift the learning curve has been very minimal, and everything is pretty much an upgrade. Very happy with zz. Pros There are too many things I like! Loving the box mode for linear takeoff, and being able to combine all into one area. The duplicate and convert options are AMAZING!!!! They save so much time. The AI component that allows you to search for text is also a huge time saver- I use it to search for my scope of work on plans and for specific item numbers and names, etc. Overall, I love zzTakeoff, it has made my job much easier and faster. Cons I don't like that I cannot reorganize takeoff items on the tab on the left side of the page, under the plans. I also do not like that I can't rearrange line items on the review tab. This has taken HOURS of my life having to rename plans and specs and made it take only minutes! It has freed me up to be able to get so many other things accomplished. Pros LOVE the automation of the naming the plans. There's so much more, but that's what I'm mainly doing at the moment so that's my favorite so far :) Cons It doesn't do a good job of scaling plans when importing from PlanSwift. It doesn't bring the takeoff into ZZ correctly or something. The sharing ability and collaborative feature are exactly what is going to take our company to the next level! Pros How easy of a transition from Planswift it is. We've used PlanSwift for 15 years and have been reluctant to try something different. ZZ Takeoff has been a pretty smooth transition so far! Cons I'm still working through everything, but the thing that sticks out the most is how many "Takeoff Windows" there are, and that when accessing the "Template," once you activate something, it defaults to the "Template tab". We have to click back and forth on these tabs because of the default. Would love to talk with someone more about this.
