### "honest Anton's fair assesment"

February 11, 2026

4.0

Generally pleased, you get used to the way it works, which isn't straight forward but good once you finally get used to it.

Pros

Available data and screens, and that refreshed data is available throughout the day. Stats available on reporting can be useful.

Cons

it's not self-intuitive and can be very clunky to use, seems to be bolted on and not always easy to follow.

### "Great Product"

August 14, 2025

4.0

Overall, it is a great product which I would recommend to any investment professional. Trusted data and easy to access customer support when needed.

Pros

Mostly intuitive to use and the breadth and accuracy of information is incredible. Definitely, it is a value for the money compared to other data providers and the ability to build and customize presentations is second to none.

Cons

Some bugs here and there. If you use the excel plug-in, it will kick you out of your morningstar direct software session.

### "Mornningstar Direct"

February 4, 2026

4.0

I use Morningstar Direct almost every day to get data of funds. I frequently use the workspace and the perfomance reporting areas.

Pros

I like the fact that Mornigstar Direct stores lots of data about funds that you would trouble to find elsewhere

Cons

Morningstar Direct is not very user friendly and has an outdated look. The new website is sometime slow to load

### "Morningstar Direct review for portfolio analysis"

February 5, 2026

4.0

Overall, Morningstar Direct is an invaluable tool for portfolio construction and analysis. While not the most user-friendly app, it provides a huge range of analysis tools and data streams.

Pros

Great for building prospective portfolios and comparing investment styles, valuation points and sector/country weightings. Lots of sustainability data.

Cons

The desktop app feels clunky (online version is much better) and there are so many data streams that sometimes finding something simple, like a benchmark, can be challenging.

### "Second to none"

February 5, 2026

5.0

My go to tool for all my analytics tasks. Stable, reliable and easy to use. Kept up to date and reliable

Pros

Comprehensive fund database for search and analytics, fund portfolio management, equity research, portfolio reporting

Cons

Some functions in the traditional direct tool are not very user friendly; the transition to the web based tool is not so good

### "Morningstar Direct product reviev"

February 12, 2026

5.0

I would recommend for anyone interested in data available inside the product. I feel like this is a very good tool for professionals with only some little limitations which annoys users.

Pros

Intuitive, good quality of data and a lot of documents available inside the product. The overall performance is really good.

Cons

Limitation of the product, number of records which could be exported from the tool, slowness when using new features.

Accessibility of data and integration to excel are two strong positives. In addtion, the client service is first class

Pros

What stands out for the system is its user friendliness, number of data points and access to holding data

Cons

System response time is the weakness of the system. Calculation, searches and look-ups take too long time

### "A long term user satisfied with application but not getting 100% out of it."

February 4, 2026

3.0

Overall good but would have liked to see a speedier application running equally well on the web without the need to download direct. Improvement needed on the support side as well.

Pros

The ease of use and the breadth of the database. Since my early days of using Morningstar the application has been improving constantly.

Cons

Whilst the online support is good, I twice had interactions with product specialists who never followed-up on my queries.

### "Mstar is 5 Star"

February 4, 2026

5.0

Great, it's been a massive addition to our data gathering and reports. It's accuracy of data is also great as many other providers can differ at times.

Pros

The vast amount of data points available. This allows our team to compare other peers across the industry and provide extensive reports.

Cons

The learning curve and the fact that it's not very intuitive upon first learning. This makes it quite difficult to get up to speed and thus a more simplified design would enhance the software.

### "An essential tool for my work"

February 5, 2026

5.0

Very positive. The platform is generally intuitive to use and supports a wide range of analytical needs. While some issues take longer to resolve, the initial support team is very responsive and helpful. Overall, Morningstar Direct remains an essential and effective tool in my day‑to‑day work.

Pros

Morningstar contains extensive data fields for the registered funds. As Morningstar is a core database used by our clients, it is extremely useful to rely on the same source when discussing performance and analysis with them.

Cons

Sometimes it takes quite a long time to have the issues I raise resolved. Although the support team is very quick, once the matter is passed on to other teams, it can take some time.

### "Honest Review - Morningstar Direct"

February 28, 2025

5.0

Overall, I love Direct. I convinced our Dealer to replace Bloomberg with Direct and haven't looked back. Again, more on-going news about companies/economics etc... would be great but besides that, love the system.

Pros

Robustness of the data. I like that it has thousands and thousands of investment types, but also thousands of different data points for analysis.

Cons

Not enough news on investments/countries/economics etc... For example, in Bloomberg, I can type in a specific stock ticker and get weeks and weeks of news on earnings, upgrades/downgrades, anything you can think of to do with the company. Not in Direct...

Ease of use, familiarity. I used it at all my past jobs and love it. One thing that makes it better is the ease of access to Canadian content.

### "Morningstar Direct - an honest critique"

March 1, 2025

5.0

My overall experience is positive. I have only used it for 5 months. Hopefully with more experience I will have less qualms with the software.

Pros

The product is highly sophisticated and powerful. It has a lot of functionality and helps me with my day-to-day work tasks. I like the Excel-Add in feature. I also like the Presentation Studio and performance reporting modules. I think I'm only using 1% of its overall features. My client liaison officer \[sensitive content hidden\] is always at hand to provide training. The help desk in India always is always accessible with no waiting time. They help with my queries.

Cons

GUI could be more user-friendly. Opening Morningstar Direct is a bit daunting as there are a lot of things staring at you (and you don't know where to start). There are a lot of drop-down boxes and sometimes you could go down the wrong path and then have to start again. Sometimes I don't know whether to start with Workspace or Performance Reporting or Portfolio Management. In terms of data produced, sometimes data that I want is missing. For example: when running a Performance Evaluation report for a Fund, there are blanks in the data for the Fund (investment) for data that I want such as up capture ratio, information ratio, max drawdown (%) etc etc. This data should be available as Morningstar has the Fund data and the benchmark's data. Finally, sometimes the software is a bit slow to run tasks and calculate.

### "Over promise and underdeliver"

February 9, 2026

It is ok, I would like it to be more intuitive, I have to use it in my role so I have learnt to use it in the ways possible.

Pros

the amount of the data that is available in one place, it has a vast amount of data that is very helpful.

Cons

the difficulty of just gathering easy data points is very difficult, it needs to be more intuitive..

### "Excellent Investment Analysis Tool"

February 11, 2026

5.0

Overall the experience using MorningStar Direct has been great. The tool offers a number of useful data points that I could not go without.

Pros

The versatility and broad scope of tools and data. Number of ways to represent data to stakeholders and clients.

Cons

The program can be a little slow at times and not all desired functions can be automated. The team however is always working on improvements

### "Very useful tool with personalised support"

March 4, 2025

5.0

I am happy to be a daily user of Morningstar Direct. It works well and the excel add-in is also a big advantage. I also appreciate that they have a remote desktop on demand to open it on a mac.

Pros

I have access to all the data I need, and tailor-made support on demand, with a dedicated analyst to show me how to perform the actions that I need, when I cannot understand how to do them by myself.

Cons

The visual look quite old, although they have been improving the past years.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Morningstar Direct

The price was the biggest factor, and the dedicated support team.

### "Morningstar Review"

February 11, 2026

5.0

I have used Morningstar Direct for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it. It has made my life so much easier as an analyst. I no longer have to manually to analysis as Presentation studio does everything for me.

Pros

It is so easy to use and I haven't seen something it can't do. My favorite part of Morningstar Direct is Presentation studio.

Cons

There isn't anything I can think of that I dislike about Morningstar Direct. The only issue I've had is the xray reports take a bit long to load and sometimes you have to log out and log in again for it to run.

### "Morningstar Direct for a multi family office"

February 11, 2026

5.0

Very good - relatively intuitive software despite lots of complexity in terms of functionality available.

Pros

The ease of monthly updating and the breadth of the available fund database - really helpful in creating and monitoring model portfolios

Cons

Frustrating when certain fund performance data is not available. While we use the import function to create our own fund performance histories, it is always preferred if Morningstar collects the data directly.

### "Morningstar Direct Review"

October 22, 2025

4.0

Overall, I am happy with the system and I use it everyday in my work. I do recommend it for people who are involved in investment products selection.

Pros

Customer support, the amount of information that the system contains, the various tools within the system that can be used to derive insights from the data

Cons

The user interface is easy to navigate. It is hard to find the right set of tools as they appear hidden. There is no easy way to search for functions.

### "Happy user"

February 4, 2026

4.0

Overall I am very happy with the functionality an ease of use. All my data is in one area and easily accessable

Pros

It is fast, easy to move between screens. Support is only an email away and issues get resolved within a reasonable period of time.

Cons

Support is only available on email and sometimes it might be easier/faster to just speak to someone.

### "Investment Consultant for Trust Companies Review"

March 7, 2025

5.0

I use it to create hundreds of portfolios, performance reports, and analyse funds. It can be love and hate, but I think its a very powerful tool overall.

Pros

The comprehensive datasets and ability to create insight in creative and precise ways. The new additions to the client are generally good. For example interactive charts. I see measured efforts to improve the service.

Cons

It was the UI at first, but I've gotten used to it. At the moment, the export to excel function is quite static or fixed. The excel add-in function is not the solution sometimes. I have some difficulty feeling confident that portfolio analysis (return attribution relative to benchmark) is accurate. I also think the template needs expanding or give flexibility for how i want portfolio returns to be reported. The scorecard system is a bit rigid, and I would like to apply more creative scoring systems. Some funds have multiple currencies or multiple listings which creates lots of blank or empty data space. If I add a fund via ISIN, i might get 10 rows of funds, but only 1 of them has data listing.

### "Morningstar Direct User Review - UK Wealth"

October 22, 2025

4.0

The overall experience is positive when teething issues are resolved. The data feeds are good, charting capabilities are excellent and the performance data solid.

Pros

The data is very good and once you know how to use the platform it is efficient. The learning curve is not super intuitive at the start however.

Cons

The excel add in is temperamental and pops up very frequently. Also the support for some queries that you would think are simple take some time.

### "Morningstar a star system"

February 4, 2026

4.0

Its value for money, great learning curve for my profession and Morningstar Direct setup requires many updates which I find tedious.

Pros

Reliable and useful for portfolio management and document management. Easy to update returns on a monthly basis.

Cons

It was not easy to learn how to use Morningstar, had to do numerous trainings. After the training session I had to rewatch the training to understand the different modules.

### "positive MS review"

October 22, 2025

4.0

positive, i use it daily and i wouldn't be able to do my role without it, i think some of the risk analysis tools have good potential but need more explaining of inputs/how they work

Pros

good availability of data, supportive rep to deal with problems or questions whenever needed, constantly adding new bits

Cons

it can get really slow in afternoons (when the US users start), i think Morningstar direct lens (the new version?) doesn't really add anything

### "Happy but feels Old"

October 22, 2025

4.0

Overall I have found that for general information finding / creating charts Morningstar is a very good software. This however is the best part. It lacks proper substance and cannot do more than that.

Pros

I think that some of the data charts etc cannot be replicated anywhere making the entire software invaluable. I also find presentation studio a key tool that benefits my workload.

Cons

I think its a very old clunky system. I think that compared to similar products like Bloomberg / LSEG, they severely lack proper substance. I also think the Excel Add in is far more complex making it difficult to pick up.

### "Product Strategy"

August 13, 2025

5.0

Morningstar Direct certainly is one of the most user-friendly Investment analytics tools that I have used. I currently uses Lipper, Simfund, GMI Broadridge and eVestment analytics for comparison.

Pros

Presentation Studio enables our team to automatically generate internal of our proprietary fund-by-fund comparisons for risk/return, holdings comparison as well as other portfolio composition metrices.

Cons

1)Direct compass makes finding research output that are produced by Morningstar more difficult (vs. downloading them directly from the Direct application itself). 2)The 5000 limits of exporting investment list
