The support team is punctual and responsive, and the Morningstar colleagues I interacted with have always been available and well‑prepared in providing assistance and clarification. Cons Some workflows are not very intuitive and require a significant amount of time to configure. The platform can feel slow when running more complex queries or when switching between modules. When I first got licensed, the customer success team scheduled very informative training sessions which helped me build a good knowledge base. I am impressed by the user interface and how easy and organized it feels. There are some areas where it could be improved. Pros Morningstar's has a great user interface, easy to use and very friendly and responsive customer service. The visuals make it very intuitive to find insights in the dataset. Cons On the performance reporting function, I would like to have the option to see the data formatted in rows too instead of just columns. Pros I like the Workspace function and being able to compare many funds in a specific Morningstar category across a number of metrics. Pros The availability of data of many funds, mainly UCITS. The Presentation Studio reporting tool. Cons The slow working of the Note Manager in Workspace. I have to shut down and restart the Morningstar to work with Note Manager. The fund database is not very complete. Main funds we are missing : Luxemburg SIFs and ELTIFs. Review Source CP Chris P. Never had a bad experience with Morningstar. They are always willing to help. Pros Morningstar Direct is the best source for registered fund data. They also evolve to provide the most topical data points available. (e.g. easily finding mutual funds that have converted to ETFs, etc.) Cons There is so much data and sometimes we have to check SEC filings, especially for fee information to ensure it is 100% accurate. Very useful product and team all around. Cons Morningstar direct is a legacy software that is very slow and crashes often. Pros I enjoy the comprehensiveness of fund data. The excel-addin is also very useful, making automated reports possible. Fund screening and peer group creation are some of the features that Mstar direct leads. Cons Sometimes data fields are not clearly defined. Overall I would say my experience is mediocre. If you could fix your technical issues and put Morningstar advisor workstation on the web, rather than on the desktop, I think a lot of the problems would be resolved. It is something you have ignored for years. You know it’s well overdue. Pros I don’t use Morningstar direct. I use Morningstar advisor workstation. It contains very helpful research capability and report production. Cons It glitches, I have frequent software issues where I have unknown errors that constantly require me to speak to your technical staff and they don’t know how to fix things and it just result in a frustrating experience. A few years ago, we had a dedicated Mornigstar representative. We no longer have or are aware of such a person. Pros I like the accessibility of the data and quick summary/Snapshot Reports for investments and analyzed portfolios. Cons I am always disappointed when I can't generate Snapshot Reports. On the negative side, we are seeing more and more slowness, and on the ETfs performance is sometimes poorly informed, or false, or absent. We tend to prefer Bloomberg for ETfs.the data are sometimes false, not updated Pros 1/Modul Performance Reporting 2/Portfolio Management, with Model portfolios, and Custum benchmarks.. 3/Portfolio Analysis for the Total Portfolio Attribution 4/Workspace (chart Template....) 5/Excel Addin Cons 1/The fact that we need to ask our IT do do the Upload of last version...Procedure is too long internally (Ticket service now....). We are not able to upload by ourselves the Upload of the new versions 2/ ETF performance is sometimes poorly informed, or false, or absent. We tend to prefer Bloomberg for ETfs. I have had only very minor issues at this time that have been resolved. Pros More comprehensive than Morningstar workstation. The data is crucial to our ongoing due diligence in model building and fund selection. Cons I didn't find the learning curve to be overwhelming at all. The interface is very similar to workstation. The only con might be some of the delays in getting month end data. There are times where I'm pulling all of the data for funds and some data doesn't pull because it's not updated yet. August 13, 2025 5.0 Overall a good experience that improves our day to day and allows us to provide in-depth analysis for our teams. Pros M\* makes our job much easier having all the data we need at our fingertips. We are able to create custom batched reports that we don't even have to think about and saves tons of man hours.
