MadeToTag is an Adobe InDesign plug-in to prepare and export InDesign documents as tagged, accessible PDF. For all those who have to create accessible PDFs on a regular base, will get a tool that considerably simplifies preparation and creation steps. In addition, MadeToTag meets the requirements of the PDF/UA standard (universal accessibility) to comply with legal regulations. Pros Ever had a table that needs to be accessible? Without MadeToTag you have a lot of work cut out for you in Acrobat…Use MadeToTag and you do it right there in InDesign in seconds! And on export it fixes many things you otherwise had to do after export in Acrobat. Latest version also fixes TOC problems as mentioned in PAC checkers Quality tab. Cons You must know what you what you are doing of course. Sometimes there are some bugs but those are mostly quickly solved in updates. Tabellen, Fußnoten, Inhaltsverzeichnis, Alternativtexte, Artefakte, Lesereihenfolge, Tags, Metadaten, interaktive Elemente, Formularfelder - all das lässt sich einfach und effektiv mit MadeToTag aus InDesign heraus in ein barrierefreies PDF exportieren, das im PAC dann auch fehlerfrei durchläuft. Da ich Trainerin für Adobe Programme bin, habe ich einige Alternativen getestet und auch schon Barrierefrei Schulungen ohne MadeToTag durchgeführt. Aber ich empfehle wirklich jedem, mit MadeToTag zu arbeiten. Der Zeitgewinn ist immens. Ohne dieses Tool stattdessen in Acrobat von Hand alles mögliche zu korrigieren und in die Tag-Struktur eingreifen zu müssen, ist extrem aufwändig. Pros Die Software führt gut und strukturiert durch den Vorgang, aus InDesign ein barrierefreies PDF zu exportieren. Jede Einstellung wird gespeichert und muss nicht erneut eingegeben werden. Die beste Lösung überhaupt, wenn man mit InDesign gestaltet und am Ende ein barrierefreies PDF herauskommen soll. Cons Objekte, die als Artefakt gekennzeichnet wurden, würde ich in MadeToTag gerne ausblenden können. Der Hersteller hat mir aber auch schon mitgeteilt, dass an dieser Funktion gearbeitet wird. We use it every day as part of our workflow and couldn't be without it, as it resolves various issues with just one click. Pros Unfortunately, it is still not possible to produce error-free, accessible PDFs in InDesign. For me and my customers, the Made-To-Tag plug-in from AXAIO is the only way to quickly and reliably create perfect, accessible documents. Cons So far, I can't find anything I don't like about this plug-in. There have been a few bugs in the past, but these were always resolved quickly and effectively. Especially achieving accessible results with complex tables is very satisfying. Product support is also great as the engineering team replies to queries quickly and tries to implement requests or solve submitted bugs as soon as possible. Pros It provides a step by step guide to create an accessible PDF and offers features that are not native to InDesign. Cons As the guided steps are sequential it is sometimes a bit cumbersome to navigate to an earlier or later step, depending where you are in your process.
