AgentMail

## What is AgentMail?

AgentMail is the email inbox API for AI agents. It gives every agent its own real email inbox, not just a send API, so agents can send, receive, thread, and reply to emails autonomously, the way Gmail works for humans. Traditional email providers were built for people: OAuth per inbox, per-seat pricing, and no programmatic provisioning. AgentMail is API-first. Create inboxes in milliseconds via a single API call, with usage-based pricing that makes one inbox per agent, customer, or session practical. Capabilities include inbox provisioning at scale, thread and label management, real-time webhooks and websockets, semantic search, data extraction from emails and attachments (invoices, receipts, OTP codes), custom domains, and built-in SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. SDKs for Python and TypeScript, plus REST API and MCP server. Use cases: agent identity and verification, support and sales agents, document workflows, and multi-agent systems. Backed by Y Combinator and General Catalyst.

AgentMail has become a real part of my agent infrastructure, not just something I tested for a weekend. I run several AI agents with distinct roles, and AgentMail lets each one have a proper email identity while I keep control over who sends what. It is especially useful because the agents can work through an API while I can still inspect the same conversations in a normal dashboard. We have used it for both automated workflows and important human correspondence, including messages with documents and attachments. There is still room to improve the console and delivery visibility, but the core product solves a genuine problem very well. If you are building agents that need to communicate outside a chat window, AgentMail is one of the few products that feels designed for that job.

Pros

AgentMail treats email as programmable infrastructure instead of forcing an AI agent to pretend it is a person clicking around Gmail. I can give different agents their own inboxes and identities, use custom domains, preserve threads, handle attachments, and send or receive mail through the API. I use it for real operational work, including account verification, support conversations, applications, shipping documentation, and communication between agents and people. The API is straightforward, and having separate inboxes makes permissions and accountability much cleaner.

Cons

The console and delivery status could be clearer. A message marked "sent" means it was accepted for delivery, but it does not prove that the recipient received or processed it. Bounce messages, automated replies, and thread labels can also be confusing until you inspect the full message. Better delivery events, clearer audit logs, and stronger tools for searching and managing many inboxes at once would make a big difference.

Alternatives considered

Reasons for choosing AgentMail

AgentMail was designed for programmatic inboxes, while Gmail is designed primarily for human users. I needed separate email identities for several AI agents, custom domains, API access, attachments, threads and realtime events without paying for a Google Workspace seat for every agent.

I joined AgentMail in April 2026 after becoming interested in AI agents and the infrastructure behind them. Since then, I’ve created an inbox, sent emails, explored the platform, and spent time reading the documentation. Although I haven’t integrated the API or connected an AI agent yet, I’ve gained a good understanding of the product’s purpose. Overall, my experience has been positive. The concept is unique, the setup was smooth, and the community support has been reliable. I believe improving the UI and making the onboarding experience more intuitive would help new users understand the platform much faster

Pros

For me, the sign-up process was quick and straightforward, and I had no issues getting started. I like the idea behind AgentMail because it solves a real need for AI agents that require their own email infrastructure. The documentation is detailed and includes helpful videos, and the Discord community has been responsive. Zac, one of the admins, is especially active and quick to answer questions

Cons

The biggest challenge for me was the user interface. While it looks clean, it feels difficult to navigate as a first-time user. It took me some time, along with the documentation and additional explanations, to fully understand how everything works. A simpler onboarding experience and a more beginner-friendly UI would make the platform much easier to adopt

Really good experience so far. I didn't talk the them before starting using, I just copied the quick start "For Agents" page, had my agent set it up, and added the API key into Doppler and it was running in 5 min. Found out they had a discord after that which was cool also.

Pros

It's the first email tool that i've found where agents are treated as primary users, as opposed to most apps are human only or human first centric. Which means many conveniences and your agents can do many things on their own → spin up and down inboxes, send and receive emails (with attachments which was nice), and they have webhooks for inbound mail too so emails recieved can kick off automated processes. I have a couple of companies I run and I can basically use this as an assistant to immediately send emails from my terminal claude code as im developing etc.

Cons

Their agentmail.to base domain (free tier) tends to end up in spam. This is solvable by just bringing your own domain, which they support.

The docs include coverage of popular languages to begin developing your inbox (or inboxes). The # of lines needed on top of the naming of the code was quickly picked up, one thing that I appreciated as a developer. Really, the amount of code needed to set things up is so surprisingly intuitive. The docs cover the basics, and the AI agent in the docs is great for any questions one might have that are rooted in what the documentation covers. I decided to go with the python setup, although I'm primarily a TS developer. I made this decision mainly because of how simple the example code looked (not just for TS, but for Python as well) so I felt a little free and decided to learn and grow. I'm really excited to grow my company with an email managed by an inbox that is not so manual.

Pros

Everything. I started learning about the product from the landing page, and saw testimonials quoting..."our emails land in inboxes, not spam folders" and "\[We\] provision 25,000 inboxes via AgentMail". As a founder of a pre-seed B2B, I was definitely very anxious toward cold outreach, but now I can rely on AgentMail and focus on working hard on building out our product and our ideas vs logistics. I saw after only a little browsing how powerful AgentMail would make my operations become. An email inbox API for AI Agents takes what would initially be a stressful task turn into a major thoughtful push for my company. The initial setup is seamless, and the product propels the starting setup to be very minimal, yet allowing for space to extend capabilities as you see fit. Having an active discord community was pivotal in getting me into checking the product out, and I'm happy it's there as now I have a place to directly ask any questions I may have, on top of having the documentation on the main AgentMail site.

Cons

The process, from the main page, to create an inbox and receive the first outbound email was fun and also extremely quick. I got into a space of wanting to follow the prompting to build out my entire system! I wished there were more pathways to continue building out my architecture from the initial prompting screen on the AgentMail site via a web console potentially. I don't mean to say that there was not enough to do from the initial prompting (creating your first inbox!), I just think my mindset was ready to start building the next second and shifting to my developer environment was a pause from my already excited mental. I wish (and feel it right) to recommend the product past its intended audience of a strong DX (Developer Experience).

AgentMail completely fixes the headache of getting email working for AI agents. Instead of hacking together IMAP scripts or sharing a main Gmail inbox, it gives your agents dedicated addresses that just work with real-time webhooks and clean data parsing. If you're building autonomous agents that need to send mail or sign up for services, it's easily the best way to go.

Pros

\- Super easy for my agents to use, AI-native and light weight - Can spin up dedicated email addresses on demand via API without messing around with Google Workspace OAuth or the confusing Google API provisioning system - Real-time webhooks, clean text extraction, and proper thread handling out of the box so you don’t have to parse raw MIME or rely on slow IMAP polling. - Easily extracts 2FA/OTP codes, which makes automating service signups and logins completely painless.

Cons

\- Not for Cold Email: It’s built for transactional workflows and agent communication, so don't expect built-in email warmup or cold outreach analytics. - Developer Required: It’s an API tool, so you still have to write the actual logic for how your agent processes the incoming webhooks.

Built for LLMs: Real-time webhooks, clean text extraction, and proper thread handling out of the box so you don’t have to rely on slow IMAP polling. Seamless OTP Handling: Easily extracts 2FA/OTP codes, making it completely painless to automate service signups and logins.

Needs more pricing tiers; the jump from Developer to Startup is large. A hobbyist tier for $50 per month with 50 inboxes and 25,000 emails/month, with 50 custom domains.

I love it! I integrated it with my cloud agent platform to give every user an AgentMail address. The team is super nice and friendly and always willing to solve problems you may have.

Pros

Ease of use integrating with AI agents / custom apps. I can plug it into my Hermes agent, Codex app, or my cloud agent platform easily.

Cons

Limited number of email addresses per subscription tier. If I'm on Startup tier, then it's assumable that I might have many users. 150 emails limits the number of users I can have by a lot.
